Junior High Precinct officially opened and celebrated as an inspiring place of learning

The new Junior High Precinct was officially opened last week by Mrs Charis Mullen MP, Member for Jordan and Reverend Paul Smith, Bishop of the Lutheran Church of Australia Queensland District

Representing the State Minister for Education, Mrs Mullen acknowledged the incredible occasion, “We get to celebrate an amazing piece of architecture, but more importantly something that will benefit student learning for many years to come.”

Having previously visited students in the iSTEAM (Innovation, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) lab to donate drones, Mrs Mullen, says, “It’s absolutely incredible the things students are learning these days and now in the Junior High Precinct they will have the opportunity to do even more of that type of learning.

“I love how bright and airy it is and I have to give a little shout out to the gallery area. You get to see some beautiful art by the students and to have that gallery space is really wonderful as well. Recognising that it’s not just about STEM but STEAM which is an inclusion of the arts as well.

"I want to thank St Peters Lutheran College for this incredible financial investment they have made in the Junior High Precinct, it really embeds this school into our greater Springfield community and I couldn’t be prouder to represent the College,” says Mrs Mullen.

Shayne Neumann, MP, State Member for Blair was also delighted to be at the opening and congratulated the College. “It’s fantastic to be here on this wonderful day. What is so fantastic about this is the opportunity for young people in our local community to achieve everything they want in life. Their skills, talents and abilities will be enhanced by this terrific facility.”

Ms Nicole Jonic, Division 2 Councillor from Ipswich City Council says this significant building overlooking Greater Springfield is “absolutely wonderful” and a “beautiful addition” to the College.

St Peters College Council Chair, Mr Neil Clark, says that “seeing the precinct materialise is absolutely brilliant. The compliments we’ve heard about it are just incredible — how well it works — and that’s inspiring.”

McLellan Bush Architects represented by Natalie Bush and Madison Whyte agree it’s great to be able to celebrate the official opening. “It’s special and exciting to be a part of the event,” says Director, Mrs Bush. Associate Director, Ms Whyte, continues, “This building was designed for the St Peters Lutheran College Springfield community and it was designed for learning.

“The most important thing is to see staff and students being able to use the space and also hearing the really fantastic feedback about how the spaces are helping them learn and aiding them in what they’re trying to learn. We really look forward to seeing how St Peters Springfield grows in the oncoming years and how this building grows with them.”

Evans Built Project Manager, Mr Ashley Kruck says as building contractors, “Evans Built is really grateful that we’ve been given the privilege to be involved in such a magnificent facility and the quality of such a great building is a fantastic result. It’s been a great project to be a part of. It’s been an enjoyable experience and it’s been great to see the outcome.”

The ceremony included addresses from Bishop Paul Smith, Mrs Charis Mullen MP, and the Head of College, Mr Tim Kotzur
