Enter the Ethi'Cool' Program which challenges our Year 7 Digital Technology students to design digital solutions to solve complex ethical issues.
Spotlight on Old Scholars - Guy Edmonds
Guy Edmonds graduated from St Peters in 2000 and has barely stopped to take a breath since. With numerous television and stage acting credits, and an Emmy-winning comedy series to his name, he could be forgiven for wanting to take some ‘me time’. Instead, he has recently co-written some children’s books and has a new television series in the works. We caught up with Guy to find out more about his work and how he came to be writing for kids.

Helping Children Foster New Friendships
The start of a new school year is an exciting time for many children, as they are reunited with old friends from the previous year and anticipate the prospect of making new friends in their new class and year level. However, for some children, re-establishing friendships can feel challenging after a lengthy summer holiday and fewer social catchups outside of school due to COVID-19. Student Counsellor Jackie Yorke shares some helpful suggestions for making new friends and re-establishing connections with old ones at the start of the school year.

St Peters’ Ironbark Program
St Peters Lutheran College’s iconic Ironbark program has been covered widely since its installation as a permanent program in the 1970s, and it’s one that deserves all the publicity. For 45 years, the Ironbark outdoor education program has been a rite of passage for St Peters students—it’s offered the chance to get back to basics, with students jumping at the opportunity to experience rural life for five weeks. Learning Underground
In the September School Holidays, a group of four St Peters Year 10 students joined 11 other South East Queensland students to venture out to Ernest Henry Mining, 38 kilometres outside of Cloncurry. There, they learnt all about copper and gold mining and one student even got to go underground!
St Peters Teachers are EPIC
St Peters Indooroopilly Year 5 teacher, Mrs Miriam Bryan, is one of the participants in the collaborative, ground-breaking research project, EPIC (Engaging Parents in Inquiry Curriculum), by Griffith University, Independent Schools Queensland (ISQ) and QIS Parent Network. The project’s final report is due for release at the end of this month, but we’re sharing some key findings with you now!
Year 7 Attend ‘Something School’
On Thursday 21 October, seven Year 7 students ventured into the city to attend ‘Something School’—an event delivered by Something Digital and BOP Industries. The students spent the day listening to industry leaders in the areas of digital technologies and were inspired to explore how they might be able to make a difference in their communities by using digital solutions.
Holiday Screen Time
The impacts of screen time have been discussed for years, but, in the wake of recent COVID-19 Lockdowns (and a subsequent move to online learning), we wanted to know whether opinions have changed at all. In this blog post, we look at the findings from a recent University of Queensland-led study. The verdict? Perhaps it’s time to encourage your children to ditch the holiday screen time and head outside!
Students bound for Future Problem Solving Nationals
Two St Peters Future Problem Solving (FPS) teams have been selected to compete in the FPS National Finals this October. To get there, the students explored the topic of Human Environmental Impact and, in the final, they’ll move to investigating the future of Personalised Medicine. Some big issues there, but nothing our students aren’t equipped to handle.
Year 6 SolarBuddy
Across the world, 789 million people live in extreme energy poverty. When the sun sets each night, these people are either plunged into darkness or forced to rely on unsafe energy sources. To combat this, our Year 6 students took part in a SolarBuddy workshop and built solar lights for children in Papua New Guinea (PNG).
Gold for Grace!
Year 12 student, Grace S, recently joined an elite group of St Peters students, becoming the 29th student to receive a Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. Indooroopilly’s Maths department leads innovation charge
St Peters has seen the rise of many positive outcomes in the aftermath of Brisbane’s COVID-19 lockdowns. Not only have families gained an increased appreciation of what our teachers do behind the scenes, the technological advances that have been adopted around our Indooroopilly campus have been phenomenal. Olympics, Here We Come!
It’s a year overdue, but, finally, the ‘Tokyo 2020’ Summer Olympic Games are almost here. With the Opening Ceremony taking place this Friday 23 July, it’s a very exciting time. At St Peters, we’re getting set to witness multiple members of our current and Old Scholar communities take the world by storm, including our Swimming Head Coach, Dean Boxall, and seven St Peters Western (SPW) swimmers.

Old Scholar’s Olympic Dreams Realised
Eve Thomas (2018) was the first of Dean Boxall’s St Peters Western (SPW) swimmers to qualify for an Olympic team. Just three years out of high school, she qualified for the New Zealand team in Women’s 1500m Freestyle! As her fellow Old Scholars and current St Peters students continue trialing for the Australian Olympic swim team this week, we caught up with Eve to find out more about this huge achievement.

Last week, our first group of Year 7 students completed their Ethi‘Cool’ Project presentations. Challenged to combine technological innovations with concepts of ethics, the students produced a range of great, innovative solutions. Legally Beyond
Kerrie Anglin is a woman of many talents. Currently serving as Senior School Key Pastoral Care Teacher at St Peters Springfield, Kerrie is also a teacher and coordinator of Legal Studies, serves as WHS and Compliance Officer and much more.
