Reading the right book at the right time
Stories can sweep us away, make our hearts pound, prompt us to laugh and bring us to tears. The by-product of reading for pleasure is improvement in academic achievement. We may not have Book Week this August but we can all do our bit to find the ‘right book’ for the young people in our lives.
Sports Carnivals: The New Normal
The ‘New Normal’ is a phrase that’s being thrown around a lot lately, but what does it look like at St Peters Lutheran College? The obvious changes are in the day-to-day College activities (socially distanced assemblies and split lunch hours to reduce the students at serveries and in common areas), but they also extend to livestreamed events, spectator limits at co and extra-curricular activities and the extension of annual College Sports Carnivals.
75 Years of Community
St Peters has a proud 75-year history of creating and nurturing strong community connections. With the outbreak of COVID-19, many of our College departments have been faced with how to continue to cultivate these connections despite physical distancing restrictions. The International Baccalaureate (IB) has long elevated St Peters Indooroopilly amongst the pool of Queensland’s leading private schools in Brisbane. Connections At Home
Cooking, exercise classes, trivia, pet appreciation, drama club and more—whoever said At Home Learning meant being alone didn’t know our St Peters community! Over the last month, staff and students from all year-levels have banded together after school hours to participate in a range of Zoom Extra-Curricular Activities. While many of these activities have wrapped up (with students now back on campus), the glowing reports are still rolling in. French Cultural Exchange
On Friday 7 February a group of 35 French Exchange Students arrived from our sister school, Jean XXIII Metz. The students have been on a whirlwind adventure around the College and Brisbane so far and, this week, they even spent two days at Ironbark!
Academic Results 2019
Last Friday 7 February, we honoured our OP 1, 2 and IB 39 recipients at the annual Scholars Assembly. These students were part of the 2019 graduating Year 12 cohort—a cohort who should all be extremely proud of their results.

At St Peters, we’re immensely proud of Ironbark. For years, our Outdoor Education program, based at Crows Nest in the Darling Downs, has been challenging and shaping our students—encouraging them to grow in their self-confidence and work closely with their peers away from the distractions of modern technology. Students share invaluable experiences from Wesley Healthcare Day
Five Year 11 St Peters students participated in the highly competitive annual Wesley Healthcare day, accompanied by Careers Counsellor, Jacqui Estevao. Our students participated in rounds of practical activities with healthcare professionals at Wesley Hospital during the Wesley Healthcare Day. During the day students were shown specialist equipment and learned some techniques for everyday patient checkups. Students have provided their insights from an invaluable day of learning about the healthcare industry and where this career could potentially take them.
Lighting the way to a solar STEAM project
Year 5 students, Josh and Steven, took up the challenge from their teacher Ms Hannan to unbox and teach themselves the KANO Pixel Kit—to code a digital animation for their recent Solar System project.
St Peters Year 8 and 9 students—leading the way
Approximately fifty Year 8 students volunteered to attend the ‘Leadershift Day’ last term, along with the Year 9 Student Leadership team who attended as peer mentors.
The community appeal of visual and performing arts at St Peters
The incredibly popular Visual Arts and Performing Arts review (VAPAr) is a culmination of student fashion, design, art, film, media, music, performances and drama. VAPAr is a huge event and a credit to staff, supporters and students (Year 7 to 12) who creatively collaborate and connect with the St Peters community through this annual event.
