Junior High students have put their creative stamp on wellbeing at St Peters, designing a unique deck of Character Strength Cards that are now displayed as posters across the College.

The project brought together the Visual Arts department and the Visible Wellbeing program, with Years 7–9 students exploring the 24 character strengths and six virtues of positive psychology through colour, symbolism, and experimenting with different materials. Each student developed their own visual interpretation of a strength, supported by guest artist workshops and guided by the Visual Art curriculum. What makes the cards special is that every design was created by a student.

Year 9 student Coco L found the experience personally meaningful. "Being part of this project has allowed me to express my values and creativity through a collage of my previous works and new designs. I think this project has really helped me build my confidence in my art and an appreciation for opportunities," she said.

The finished Character Strength Cards and associated poster are in use in classrooms across the College, giving students and staff a shared language for wellbeing, useful for reflection, goal-setting, and everyday conversations about strengths and resilience.

Curriculum Leader Arts Julie Seidel said the project showed just how powerful art can be as a form of communication. "Art is much more than an aesthetic practice; it is a sophisticated and essential form of communication capable of expressing complexity, emotion and connection," she said.

The project is a strong example of students as active contributors to College life, with their creativity now shaping the Visible Wellbeing culture for the whole community.
