Zac H., Year 12 student from St Peters Springfield, took the opportunity to ask best friend Hope W. to the senior formal in a spectacular way. With the idea that a special invitation was needed to create an impact, Zac researched Hope’s favourite movies and came up with some unforgettable moments replayed throughout the ‘invitation week’.

Zac realised the scope of his production was going to happen over a few days, “I couldn’t do it in one big thing,” he says. “I planned a full week of different homages and scenes from movies.”

The first scene Zac re-enacted was the poster doorway scene from Love Actually, “where he confesses his love for her,” says Zac.

Hope laughs, “I had no idea what was going on! I was very confused.” Some of the cohort knew in advance and had their cameras ready. “The posters came out and the speaker as well. It was really cute,” she says.

The next day Zac re-enacted Heath Ledger’s unforgettable singing scene from 10 Things I Hate About You. Zac confesses, “That took a bit of practice to nail.” His energetic performance was definitely appreciated by Hope and the Year 12 cohort.

The final movie homage Zac re-created was the rainy scene in Four Weddings and a Funeral. The unique part about that was the rain, so a friend lent a hand and poured water over Zac as he spoke an adapted speech from the movie.

Hope says, “it was a really nice gesture. This whole year has been crazy and we didn’t even know if we were going to have a formal or not, so to even know the formal was going ahead and to get asked in such an extravagant way was really good. I can speak for the girls in Year 12, we go through our whole school life wanting to go to formal. When we heard it was going ahead it was a big relief. Through this hard year we can still celebrate in a way that we want to.”

We encourage you to experience the incredible community atmosphere here at St Peters Springfield.
