Junior High News
Welcome to Week 7
Humanity in the age of AI
As we enter an important assessment period, I spoke with students at Junior High Assembly this week about artificial intelligence and what it means to remain human in a time of rapid technological change.
In Magnifica Humanitas, Pope Leo XIV writes of the need to remain "profoundly human" in the age of AI. This is a timely challenge for students. AI can be a useful tool for learning, but it must not replace a student’s own effort or voice.
Never has the integrity of a student in producing their own work been more important. Assessment is not simply about submitting a polished final product. It is about showing what a student understands, how they think and what they can do.
The message to students was simple. Use technology wisely, but do not let it do your thinking for you. In a world where AI can produce answers instantly, honesty, effort and thinking matter more than ever.
Reminder about livestreaming at school
Students have also been reminded that they are not to livestream themselves at school. This includes classrooms, campus, and College activities.
Livestreaming can capture other students, staff or school activities without permission, creating privacy concerns. The College’s Privacy Policy makes clear that images and video of identifiable students must be handled carefully, and content involving other students should not be shared online without appropriate consent.
Thank you for reinforcing this expectation at home.
Max Forbes Head of Junior High
Year 7
The Year 7 cohort had a special presentation about the importance of sleep from Katherine Maslen, the founder and director of The Shift Clinic. Katherine has been a naturopath for 14 years, and her passion lies in educating people about their health. The session focused on the importance of sleep for the growing adolescent body, the benefits to our health and recovery when we get enough sleep, and the amount of sleep teenagers need for their development. Katherine spoke about the importance of good sleep hygiene, which can be supported by avoiding screens within an hour of bedtime, maintaining a consistent bedtime routine each night to help regulate our body clock, and sleeping without phones or other technology in the bedroom. Katherine recommended that 12–13-year-olds get at least 9–10 hours of sleep per night, and that the more sleep they could get before midnight, the more beneficial it would be for their brain development and recovery. We appreciate Katherine’s expertise and guidance in helping our students (and staff) understand the importance of sleep.

Year 8
This has been an outstanding week for our Year 8 cohort!
The highlight of the week was the performance of Kaleidoscope, the Year 8 production that students have been working tirelessly towards over the past few months. The performances were exceptional, showcasing the remarkable talent, creativity, and dedication of our students. They should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved.
We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the staff who supported the production. Their commitment, guidance, and countless hours of behind-the-scenes work played a vital role in making the show such a success.
The past week also saw our Year Level Assembly, led by several of our Form Class Representatives. They did an excellent job facilitating the assembly, confidently keeping proceedings running smoothly and engaging their peers in an interform bottle-flip challenge. There was even a competitive round involving teachers, which was enjoyed by all.
Congratulations to 8J, 8K, and 8D for their efforts and enthusiasm throughout the event.
Tegan Sutton Year 8 Coordinator
Year 9
This week, our Year 9 Junior High Leaders, House Leaders and invited students attended the yLead Altitude Day at Brisbane City Hall.
Altitude Day is a leadership development program designed to empower Year 9 students as they navigate this important stage of their schooling journey. Through a combination of inspiring keynote presentations, interactive activities and opportunities to connect with students from other schools, participants were encouraged to reflect on the impact they can have within their school and wider community.
Throughout the day, students explored what it means to lead with purpose, integrity and courage. They were challenged to step outside their comfort zones, consider the kind of leaders they aspire to be, and recognise that leadership is not defined by a badge or title, but by the positive influence they have on those around them.
We look forward to seeing how these students apply their learning and continue to grow as leaders throughout the year.

The Arts
Kaleidoscope
Life is a Kaleidoscope: Kaleidoscope Celebrates 20th Anniversary
Over the past twenty years, Kaleidoscope has become one of the defining experiences of Year 8, providing generations of students with opportunities to develop creativity, confidence, teamwork and performance skills through a truly collaborative experience. Far more than simply a performance, Kaleidoscope celebrates the remarkable things young people can achieve when encouraged to step beyond their comfort zones and work together towards a shared vision. It reflects the courage, energy and enthusiasm of the Year 8 students themselves, who continue to embrace every rehearsal, challenge and performance opportunity with commitment and focus.
One aspect of Kaleidoscope which differs significantly from a typical school musical production is that each script is created especially for the cast involved. This approach allows large numbers of students to be meaningfully featured within each production, celebrating the diverse skills, personalities and abilities of the cast rather than focusing on only a small number of leading roles.
Appropriately for this special anniversary year, Life is a Kaleidoscope included scenes and musical moments from past productions, honouring the storytelling, humour, song and dance that have shaped the program over the past two decades. In many ways, the performances last weekend were both a celebration of the present cast and a tribute to the thousands of students who have contributed to the rich history of Kaleidoscope since its beginnings twenty years ago.
Below is some feedback from audience members:
Our heartfelt thanks for a brilliant performance of Kaleidoscope! To see 120 kids choreographed to perfection, acting parts with absolute precision, was awe-inspiring. AND to see the sheer enjoyment on the children's faces.
It was truly outstanding — funny, moving, and completely engaging. My mum and I both got teary at different times! It was so unique how every student had the opportunity to shine. I did not know what to expect and have never seen a show like this.
I attended both nights and could have seen it again and again.
What a privilege it is for our kids to be in a high-quality original performance.
To take a large group of kids with little to no experience and turn them into performers is really impressive and really shows the kids what they can achieve if they are willing to work for it. They’ll carry this with them for the rest of their lives.
Congratulations to the cast and crew for Kaleidoscope 2026 and sincere thanks to all the staff who supported them.

Term 3 Pre-season
Preparations for Term 3 AIC Sport are now underway, with students encouraged to attend pre-season training and trial opportunities. Students should note that they can participate in one AIC team sport AND Track & Field simultaneously during Term 3, allowing them to represent the College in both competitions.
AIC Basketball training has commenced after the weekend trials, with one session per week during Weeks 7 and 8, increasing to two sessions per week from Week 9. If students were unable to attend trials, they have temporarily been placed in a team and will train with that age group/division, with teams to be finalised by Week 1 of Term 3. Players will also have the opportunity to participate in the skills session during Week 10 (student-free week).
AIC Tennis trials have begun, with boys trialling Monday (Years 7–8), Wednesday (Years 9–10) and Friday (Years 11–12) mornings at the Lohe Street Courts
AIC Rugby League trials will commence in Week 9 following the conclusion of the Rugby Union season

The St Peters Football community is invited to celebrate another great AIC Football season at the annual Football Dinner on Saturday 13 June from 6:00pm. Hosted at Figs on Sylvan at the Western Districts Rugby Club in Toowong, the evening will bring together players, families and supporters from Years 5–12 to recognise the season's achievements and farewell our graduating Year 12s as they conclude their school football journey.
The event will include a two-course meal and welcome drink, providing a fantastic opportunity for the Football community to connect and celebrate the season together. Tickets are now on sale and will remain available until Saturday 30 May. Parent and guest tickets are $70.00, and student tickets are $50.00. We encourage all families to secure their tickets early and join us for what promises to be a memorable evening celebrating St Peters Football.

Their dedication ensures that everyone can enjoy the pleasures of running and personal development.
AIC Chess
It has been a busy few weeks for the Boys' AIC Chess team. Our Focus Round against Padua on 22 May was a real highlight, with plenty of students, families and staff coming along to support the boys. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the team responded with some excellent performances across the divisions. Last week, the boys took on Villanova and once again represented St Peters well, showing plenty of determination and sportsmanship throughout the afternoon.
With only two rounds remaining, the team now turns its attention to St Edmund's and St Laurence's, both at home. The boys are looking forward to the challenge and are keen to finish the season on a high with First IV, Senior A and Senior B all undefeated in line with a premiership.
Rowing
Rowing Update
The boys' squad has continued to build strongly throughout the term, with athletes across all year levels showing great commitment to training and making the most of every session on the water.
We are currently coming off a two-week training block in between regattas, with crews able to focus on developing their technical skills, fitness and boat speed. The third SQSARC Regatta takes place this weekend and will provide a great opportunity to see that hard work put into practice.
With the Trophy Regatta on 20 June also fast approaching, excitement is building throughout the shed. The boys have been training hard and are looking forward to the challenges ahead as they continue to represent St Peters with pride.
A big thank you to the families and volunteers supporting this Friday's rowing bake sale. The continued support of our rowing community plays a vital role in the program's success.
Rowing Fundraising Bake Sale & Raffle
On Friday 5 June (Week 7), St Peters Rowing will be hosting a Bake Sale at lunchtime in the Chapel Forecourt. Be sure to stop by to purchase some delicious treats and support our rowers.
You've got to be in it to win it! The Rowing Parents Support Group are excited to launch our 50/50 Cash Raffle, giving our wider St Peters community the opportunity to support our rowers while having the chance to win a significant cash prize.
This raffle is simple:
50% of all ticket sales goes directly to the winner
50% supports the St Peters Rowing Program, helping provide equipment, resources and opportunities for our athletes to perform at their best
The more tickets sold, the bigger the prize pool — so every ticket purchased not only increases your chance of winning, but also directly contributes to the growth and success of rowing at St Peters.
The raffle will run throughout Term 2 and culminate in a live draw at the end-of-season event after the Trophy Regatta on 20 June 2026.
The St Peters Athletic Development Program supports students’ physical development and athletic performance, with sessions held before and after school in the Indooroopilly weights room.
Years 7–9: Focus on fundamental movement skills
Years 10–12: Build on these foundations with tailored, sport-specific programs
All experience levels are welcome, and students are encouraged to participate year-round to complement their chosen sports. The Term 2 schedule is available on the St Peters App.
The grey training shirt is compulsory for all students from 2026, replacing the white PE shirt previously worn to training. It is available via School Locker at St Peters Indooroopilly.
Please note: this shirt is for cocurricular sport training only and is not to be worn during the school day (8:00am – 3:10pm).
Matchday expectations
All students are expected to be correctly dressed for AIC training and games. Uniforms are available from Shop 45 or School Locker (see website for hours).
On matchdays, enclosed footwear must be worn to and from games. Slides and Crocs are not permitted at St Peters or AIC venues.
St Peters Student Spectators and Parents on Gamedays
As Term 2 AIC sport continues, all members of the St Peters community are reminded to uphold the values of inclusion, respect and sportsmanship.
Support all players and respect officials’ decisions
Focus on effort, enjoyment and participation over results
Model positive behaviour — students take their cues from adults
Show appreciation to coaches, staff and officials
Raise any concerns respectfully through the appropriate College channels
AIC events are not the place for conflict. By working together, we ensure a positive experience for all and represent St Peters with pride.
With regards to wet weather and any unforeseen or potential cancellations of AIC sports, please ensure that you keep an eye out for notifications and alerts via the St Peters App. We will endeavour to keep everyone updated on both training cancellations and game day changes as the week progresses.
Concussion Awareness
As we commence the Term 1 AIC (Australian Rules/Cricket/Volleyball) season, I would like to share some important information regarding injury management, return-to-sport procedures, and concussion awareness. These processes are in place to support student safety and to ensure clear communication between the school, families, and medical professionals. All injuries or incidents that occur during training or matches are managed in line with the College’s risk management procedures. Where required, injuries are documented and followed up by the school and Sports Medicine staff.
Concussion identification and management are a priority across all AIC sports. To assist parents in recognising the signs and symptoms of concussion, we strongly encourage you to view the following Australian Sports Concussion Identification video:
This short video provides practical guidance on what to look for and what steps to take if you have concerns about your child following a sporting event.
If a concussion or suspected concussion occurs during school sport, the College will follow its concussion management protocol and communicate directly with families regarding next steps.

Oceania Athletics Championships
Congratulations to Sierra W (Year 12), who delivered an outstanding performance at last month’s Oceania Athletics Championships in Darwin, thriving despite the challenging hot and humid conditions.
Sierra achieved exceptional results, earning a gold medal in the U18 4x400m relay, where her team also set a new meet record, and a silver medal in the U18 800m, where she again set a meet record. Competing against some of the best young athletes in the region, Sierra demonstrated talent, composure and determination on the international stage.
We are incredibly proud of Sierra’s success and the way she represented both her school and her country. We look forward to cheering her on later this year at the QGSSSA Track and Field Championships, where she will no doubt continue to build on this fantastic momentum.

QGSSSA Football – Season Wrap Up
The QGSSSA Football season began with Round 1 on Friday 13 March. From then on, we saw each team grow tremendously. Our Opens squad, consisting of students from Years 8–12, demonstrated how the development of our younger players in previous years has bolstered our challenge at the top of QGSSSA Football. Finishing 4th with tight games against the top three, the Opens demonstrated the ability to challenge going forward.
Wonderful experiences were also had in our Senior team, coupled with strength in competition, creating an excellent season for the group, culminating in a 2nd-place finish. It is with real excitement that we also watched our Junior and Intermediate girls go from strength to strength, signalling a continuation of talent development. The future is definitely bright for St Peters Girls’ Football.
We look forward to celebrating the program's success at our Football Dinner on Saturday 13 June.
Mr Liam Arkley Football Coordinator
QGSSSA Basketball – Season Wrap Up
The 2026 QGSSSA Basketball season held many successes for our students and coaches. This year our Focus Round also coincided with QGSSSA Reconciliation Round for our final matches of the season against Brisbane State High School. We celebrated our student's Indigenous culture with two incredible dances, before the Open Girls fought their hardest in their Premiership game. Notably, our 10A team also had a very successful season and reached the Premiership match as well. Unfortunately, although both teams were not successful against BSHS, we are incredibly proud of their seasons.
Other highlights throughout the season include the Senior B girls winning by a thrilling 1 point in Round 7 against St Aidan's, and our 10A girls winning against St Hilda's by 2 points in the last 20 seconds of the match. Thank you very much to the families who supported our students throughout this season, and to the coaches who passed on their knowledge and leadership to their respective teams. Go Saints!
Miss Olivia Walsh Basketball Coordinator
QGSSSA Touch – Season Wrap Up
The 2026 QGSSSA Touch Football season was one of growth, resilience, and many proud moments, with our teams showing consistent improvement throughout both the school and BMTA Club Touch Football seasons. Across the semester, the girls continued to develop their individual skills, game awareness, and confidence, which was reflected in increasingly competitive performances and many closely contested matches.
The additional opportunities to compete through the BMTA club season proved invaluable in accelerating player development. Regular competition in addition to our QGSSSA season has allowed the girls to further refine their skills, strengthen combinations on the field, and gain valuable match experience, resulting in significant growth both individually and as a team.
Most importantly, the 2026 season was characterised by the commitment, enthusiasm, and positive attitude displayed by all players. Their willingness to learn, support one another, and represent St Peters with pride was evident at every training session and match.
Thank you to all the girls for their dedication and effort throughout both the QGSSSA and BMTA seasons. We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to the parents and families for their ongoing support, flexibility, and commitment. Your encouragement and assistance played a vital role in creating opportunities for the girls to maximise their development and enjoyment of the sport.
We are excited to build on the progress made this season and look forward to representing St Peters at the Queensland All Schools Touch Football Championships in October.
Miss Laura Buckby Touch Coordinator
