Year 8 Kaleidoscope | Friday 29 and Saturday 30 May
Next week is Performance Week for Year 8 Kaleidoscope!
On Friday 29 May and Saturday 30 May, more than 120 Year 8 students will present Life is a Kaleidoscope and they are very excited to bring their show to life and to perform for a live audience.
In this 20th anniversary production, the script celebrates the rich history of Kaleidoscope, weaving together elements from past scripts and musical items into a new and engaging narrative.
Life is constantly changing. Especially as a teenager in Junior High. Life is multifaceted and unpredictable. The colours and shapes that make up your family and friends, school, sports and downtime all swirl and rotate. Just a slight turn of focus changes the pattern as they blend together to form a unique and intricate picture.
Life is a Kaleidoscope and this year we follow the journey of year 8 students through the woven fabric of their ups and down, their successes, evolution and growth. While change can cause anxiety, a turn of life's Kaleidoscope can offer endless possibilities and encourage young people to be active creators of their own life's story. This is Kaleidoscope!
Tickets ($20.00 adults / $15.00 concession) are available via Humanitix. We warmly invite the St Peters community to come along and support these enthusiastic and talented young performers, and to enjoy what promises to be a vibrant and inspiring production.
The PAC Servery will be open for drinks and snacks from 6:30pm.

IB Voices: Perspectives from Our IB Community
As pathway selection and SET planning begin for Year 10 students, over the coming weeks we will be featuring a series of testimonials from current students, teachers and alumni. These reflections highlight the unique opportunities, experiences and perspectives offered through the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. This week features Old Scholar and St Peters IB Graduate Lulu B (2022):
I'd say the biggest thing about IB that helped me prepare for life beyond school, i.e. a university degree in international relations...is its critical approach to learning. I felt the curriculum touched on critical perspectives that challenge the status quo of knowledge across all subject areas. The ability to question assumptions while learning anything new has been an invaluable skill for my degree and [my] approach to learning in general. I'm grateful I had the chance to get comfortable with this before entering the daunting world of political studies at university!
Critical thinking and the fostering of intercultural understanding and respect are two key aspects of an IB education and are widely celebrated at St Peters. If you are interested in learning more about the IB Programme, we invite parents and guardians to attend our upcoming online information session. This short introductory session will provide an overview of the IB Diploma Programme, highlighting its unique benefits and answering common questions from students and families.
Please note that the formal Senior Pathways Parent Information Evening will be held on Wednesday 29 July, with further details to be shared closer to the date.
For Parents
Term 2 IB Parent Information Session (via Microsoft Teams) Tuesday 26 May — 7:00pm–7:30pm
IB Student Q&A Café — Every Monday lunch at the CLI Servery Students are invited to pop by during lunch to chat informally with current IB students and teachers. It’s a great opportunity to hear first-hand what the IB experience is all about.
Supporting Stronger Partnerships with Families in the Primary Years
Throughout this year, families in the Primary Years have had the opportunity to engage with the Triple P – Positive Parenting Program, a well-established, evidence-based initiative designed to support parents and caregivers in building positive, practical and effective parenting strategies.
At its heart, Triple P is about strengthening relationships between children and their families, promoting children’s social and emotional development, and equipping parents with tools that are realistic, respectful and easy to apply in everyday life. The program does not prescribe a ‘one size fits all’ approach; instead, it offers flexible strategies that can be adapted to the unique needs of each child and family.
Capably led by our Triple P facilitators, Mr Cam Glass and Mrs Jackie Yorke, and supported by Mrs Tegan Mallet and Mrs Kelly Connors, this year’s sessions have provided parents with opportunities to explore approaches to building strong routines, encouraging positive behaviour, and managing challenges in calm and consistent ways. Many families have reflected on the value of having time and space to step back, consider new perspectives, and connect with other parents navigating similar experiences.
Importantly, the program has also strengthened the partnership between home and school. When families and educators share a consistent understanding of expectations and approaches, children benefit from a more stable and supportive environment across both settings. The conversations generated through Triple P have helped reinforce this shared language of care, guidance, consistent boundaries, routine and encouragement.
Feedback from participating families has highlighted the practical nature of the strategies shared, as well as the reassurance that comes from knowing there are clear, evidence-informed approaches to support common parenting challenges. Many have also valued the opportunity to engage in open discussion, ask questions and learn from one another in a supportive setting.
We are grateful for the commitment of our families who have engaged in this program, and for the ongoing collaboration that underpins the wellbeing of our students. The success of initiatives such as Triple P reflects the strength of our school community and our shared focus on supporting every child to thrive both at school and at home.
We look forward to continuing to offer opportunities that strengthen family partnerships and support positive outcomes for our Primary Years students into the future.
Lisa Challenor Head of Primary Years
da Vinci Decathlon Success
The Year 6 da Vinci team did it again at the da Vinci Decathlon, this year bringing home the Bronze Medal overall! What a spectacular day, with outstanding results across multiple disciplines: 1st place in Code Breaking, 2nd place in Cartography and an eye-wateringly complex Engineering challenge, along with 3rd places in Maths and Science.
Our Year 5 team also had a wonderful day, achieving 3rd place in Art and Poetry and representing the school with creativity, enthusiasm and determination.
As always, these students shone brightest not only through their achievements, but through their extraordinary respect, kindness and collaboration throughout the day. They supported one another, persevered through challenges, and embodied the very best of teamwork and curiosity. We are incredibly proud of all of our students for the way they approached the competition and represented our school community so positively.

Junior High
Junior High News
Welcome to Week 5
A recent article in The Educator asked an important question: Can you teach good character? The answer, from our perspective in Junior High, is a resounding yes. More importantly, we believe it is something schools teach every day through the culture they create, the expectations they uphold and the opportunities they provide. As the article noted, character is formed through 'habit, practice, reflection and relationships', not simply through isolated lessons. You can read more here.
In Junior High, character is shaped in visible and intentional ways. It is developed through everyday interactions, carefully designed classroom learning and students’ broader engagement in College life. Students learn character when they serve, lead, reflect, make good choices and contribute to something beyond themselves. Through these experiences, they come to understand and live out the values of the College.
It has also been wonderful to see such strong cocurricular involvement across Junior High. Whether through AIC and QGSSSA sports, Kaleidoscope, Robotics, Future Problem-Solving, Da Vinci Decathlon, music, clubs, activities or other opportunities, students continue to learn important lessons about commitment, teamwork, discipline and belonging. These experiences are not separate from character formation. They are part of it.
Finally, a reminder that winter uniform expectations remain important. Students are required to wear their blazer and formal hat to and from school each day. These visible standards matter. Our uniform is not simply clothing. It is a representation of pride, culture, belonging and the standards we hold together as a College community.
Thank you for your ongoing support in reinforcing these expectations at home.
Max Forbes Head of Junior High
Year 8
This week, the Year 8 cohort has been focusing on mindfulness. In form classes, students have been exploring the benefits of being present and learning how mindful practices contributed to the success of the Chicago Bulls.
We would also like to shine a spotlight on Year 8 student Thoma B. Thoma recently competed in the National Claycourt Tennis Championships in Canberra. He won both the singles and doubles titles in the Boys 12U category, making him a two-time National Champion.
Congratulations, Thoma!
Tegan Sutton Year 8 Coordinator
Year 9
In the Year 9 cohort, our AB students return from Ironbark this weekend, with much excitement continuing to build amongst the CD students as they look ahead to their own upcoming experience next week.
This year, we are also incredibly grateful for the partnership and support of four Year 12 prefects, Kate C, Oliver H, Tabby N and Rose J, who have been working closely alongside the Year 9 cohort. One meaningful way they support our students is by meeting with each Ironbark group in the week prior to departure. These sessions provide Year 9 students with the opportunity to hear firsthand advice, ask questions in a relaxed student-to-student setting, and gain reassurance from senior students who have previously experienced Ironbark.
These conversations play an important role in helping students feel more prepared and confident ahead of Ironbark.

The Arts
Spectrum Showcases Year 12 Creative Practice
Saturday night’s Spectrum event at the St Peters Performing Arts Centre highlighted the work of our Year 12 Art and Film & Television students. The evening featured the presentation of IA2 projects, with Art students providing commentary on their inquiry processes and conceptual development, while Film & Television students screened their original productions in the Theatrette.
Parents and members of the school community supported the event, contributing to an insightful and engaging evening. Students will now approach their major IA3 works with renewed confidence.
Congratulations to Year 8 student Thoma B who recently competed in the National Claycourt Tennis Championships in Canberra. Thoma won both the singles and doubles titles in the Boys 12U category, making him a two-time National Champion!
Football
The St Peters Football community is invited to celebrate another great AIC Football season at the annual Football Dinner on Saturday 13 June from 6:00pm. Hosted at Figs on Sylvan at the Western Districts Rugby Club in Toowong, the evening will bring together players, families and supporters from Years 5–12 to recognise the achievements of the season and farewell our graduating Year 12 footballers as they conclude their school Football journey.
The event will include a two-course meal and welcome drink, providing a fantastic opportunity for the Football community to connect and celebrate the season together. Tickets are now on sale and will remain available until Saturday 30 May. Parent and guest tickets are $70.00 and student tickets are $50.00. We encourage all families to secure their tickets early and join us for what promises to be a memorable evening celebrating St Peters Football.
We also encourage all players to embrace the 'play and stay' culture across the Football program this season. Players are asked to remain after their matches where possible to support the 1st XI boys and help create a strong atmosphere around our senior fixtures. Greater student presence on the sidelines brings extra energy and support for the team, while also strengthening the connection across all year levels within the Football program. We look forward to seeing players proudly supporting one another throughout the remainder of the season.
Rugby Union
The SPLC First XV Rugby side secured a memorable first win since 2023 with a dominant performance against Iona College. The result reflects the hard work, preparation and commitment shown by players and staff over the past 18 months. Congratulations to all involved on a significant milestone for the program.
St Peters Rugby Union is pleased to offer a Rugby Union experience of a lifetime, with a planned interstate tour celebrating the upcoming 2027 Rugby World Cup. This tour is strictly open to boys from Years 8–12 in 2027 who have committed to and played Rugby Union throughout the 2026 and 2027 AIC Rugby Union seasons.

AIC Chess
The St Peters Chess program enjoyed another strong evening of competition on Friday night, taking on Iona College in Round 3 of the AIC Chess competition. Our boys produced an outstanding performance across the majority of divisions, with the First IV, Senior A and Senior B securing wins. Junior A also continued their excellent form with a commanding result.
It was particularly pleasing to see the depth of the program on display, with competitive matches occurring across every division throughout the night. Several teams fought hard in tightly contested encounters, earning valuable draws against strong opposition.
A special mention to the First IV, who remain continue to build strong momentum heading deeper into the season. Their composure and consistency across all boards have been extremely impressive.
Congratulations to all students involved for representing the College with excellent sportsmanship and professionalism throughout the evening. We look forward to another strong round next week.
Rowing
SQSARC Regattas #1 and #2
The Boys' Rowing squad has enjoyed an outstanding start to the 2026 racing season, following two strong weekends of racing at South Queensland Schools Conference Regatta #1 and #2 at Wyaralong Dam on Saturday 9 May and Saturday 16 May. Across both regattas, the boys delivered back-to-back weeks of impressive performances, with our Year 9, Year 10 and Open crews consistently winning races and showing excellent speed across the program. It has been extremely pleasing to see the hard work from training beginning to translate into strong results on race day.
Just as importantly, there has been clear improvement each week in race execution, crew cohesion and confidence under pressure. The standard across the squad continues to rise, with athletes embracing the competitive environment and supporting each other throughout the day. Our younger crews also continue to gain valuable race experience and have shown fantastic determination and growth across the opening regattas of the season.
Thank you to all families, supporters, coaches and the PSG for their continued support around the sheds and at regattas. The atmosphere and encouragement across both weekends have been outstanding. The boys are excited to continue building momentum throughout the remainder of the season!
The St Peters Athletic Development Program supports students’ physical development and athletic performance, with sessions held before and after school in the Indooroopilly weights room.

Years 10–12: Build on these foundations with tailored, sport-specific programs

The grey training shirt is compulsory for all students from 2026, replacing the white PE shirt previously worn to training. It is available via School Locker at St Peters Indooroopilly.
Please note: this shirt is for cocurricular sport training only and is not to be worn during the school day (8:00am – 3:10pm).
Matchday expectations
All students are expected to be correctly dressed for AIC training and games. Uniforms are available from Shop 45 or School Locker (see website for hours).

St Peters Student Spectators and Parents on Gamedays
As Term 2 AIC sport continues, all members of the St Peters community are reminded to uphold the values of inclusion, respect and sportsmanship.
Support all players and respect officials’ decisions
Focus on effort, enjoyment and participation over results
Model positive behaviour — students take their cues from adults
Show appreciation to coaches, staff and officials
Raise any concerns respectfully through the appropriate College channels
AIC events are not the place for conflict. By working together, we ensure a positive experience for all and represent St Peters with pride.
With regards to wet weather and any unforeseen or potential cancellations of AIC sports, please ensure that you keep an eye out for notifications and alerts via the St Peters App. We will endeavour to keep everyone updated on both training cancellations and game day changes as the week progresses.
Concussion Awareness
As we commence the Term 1 AIC (Australian Rules/Cricket/Volleyball) season, I would like to share some important information regarding injury management, return-to-sport procedures, and concussion awareness. These processes are in place to support student safety and to ensure clear communication between the school, families, and medical professionals. All injuries or incidents that occur during training or matches are managed in line with the College’s risk management procedures. Where required, injuries are documented and followed up by the school and Sports Medicine staff.
Concussion identification and management are a priority across all AIC sports. To assist parents in recognising the signs and symptoms of concussion, we strongly encourage you to view the following Australian Sports Concussion Identification video:
This short video provides practical guidance on what to look for and what steps to take if you have concerns about your child following a sporting event.
If a concussion or suspected concussion occurs during school sport, the College will follow its concussion management protocol and communicate directly with families regarding next steps.

BSRA ROWING
Rowing Update
It has been another busy and exciting fortnight for the Rowing program, with plenty happening both on and off the water.
On Saturday 16 May, a group of our senior girls attended the Pine Rivers Scull Trial. The trial provided a fantastic opportunity for athletes to gain valuable race experience, spend more time in small boats, and continue building confidence heading into the season. The girls represented the program extremely well and showed great determination and improvement throughout the day. Thank you to all families for their support with the early start and travel.
Looking ahead, the BSRA Indoor Ergo Championships will take place this Tuesday 19 May at All Hallows’ School. This event brings together schools from across Brisbane for an exciting night of racing on the ergometers. We are looking forward to seeing a strong group of girls compete across all year levels in what is always a loud, energetic, and highly competitive event.
We wish all athletes racing on Tuesday night the very best of luck and encourage everyone to get behind the team and support each other throughout the evening.
