Celebrating Mother's Day
Mother’s Day originated in 1908 with humble beginnings as a simple tradition to honour all mothers, living and deceased. However, it did not take long for florists, confectioners and card companies to jump onboard and commercialise the day, much to the disappointment of its founder, Ann Jarvis.
Today, Mother’s Day is an annual reminder to say thanks to our mum, or other motherly figure, who plays an important role in our lives. It is a day to express our gratitude and love towards the women who have dedicated their time, energy, and love to raising and supporting us. Whether it's a simple gesture like a card, a bunch of flowers, or a heartfelt message, Mother's Day is an opportunity to show our mothers how much we cherish and admire them. It's a time to reflect on the love, sacrifices, and unwavering support that our mothers provide unconditionally.
This SchoolTV Special Report highlights that Mother's Day is not only a celebration but also a reminder of the vital role mothers play in their children's development and the impact this has on shaping our society. We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report, and as always, we welcome your feedback.

Year 8 Kaleidoscope Celebrates 20 Years
2026 marks a significant milestone for the St Peters Arts program, as Year 8 Kaleidoscope celebrates its 20th anniversary. Over two decades, Kaleidoscope has become a much-loved and integral part of the Year 8 experience, offering students the opportunity to develop their musical, dance, and dramatic skills under the guidance of dedicated arts staff and industry professionals.
More than just a performance, Kaleidoscope provides a platform for students to build confidence, form new friendships, and experience the excitement of contributing to a large-scale stage production created especially for them. It continues to be a highlight of the Junior High calendar, fostering creativity, collaboration, and a strong sense of community.
Rehearsals for the 2026 production are now well underway, with over 115 students involved across cast and crew. Performances of 'Life is a Kaleidoscope' will take place on Friday 29 May and Saturday 30 May, commencing at 7:30pm.
This year’s production celebrates the rich history of Kaleidoscope, weaving together elements from past scripts and musical items into a new and engaging narrative.
Life is constantly changing. Especially as a teenager in Junior High. Life is multifaceted and unpredictable. The colours and shapes that make up your family and friends, school, sports and downtime all swirl and rotate. Just a slight turn of focus changes the pattern as they blend together to form a unique and intricate picture.
Life is a Kaleidoscope and this year we follow the journey of Year 8 students through the woven fabric of their ups and downs, their successes, evolution and growth. While change can cause anxiety, a turn of life's Kaleidoscope can offer endless possibilities and encourage young people to be active creators of their own life stories. This is Kaleidoscope.
We warmly invite the St Peters community to come along and support these enthusiastic and talented young performers, and to enjoy what promises to be a vibrant and inspiring production.
The PAC Servery will be open for drinks and snacks from 6:30pm.

Daniel Principe Resources
Thank you to the parents who attended the St Peters Symposium in Term 1 to hear from Daniel Principe. The resources Daniel mentioned, along with materials from the student presentations, are available via the following Google Drive link.
A key focus for Daniel was on parents discussing the issues raised with their sons and daughters. Please take the time to review these resources. We hope they help with conversations at home about technology and the issues young people face.

Mother’s Day Breakfast in the Primary Years
We were delighted to welcome our mums and caregivers to this year’s Mother’s Day Breakfast, as they shared this special occasion with their children. The Lower Primary Undercroft was filled with warmth and connection as we gathered to celebrate the important women in our students’ lives. The morning concluded with a time of worship, where we gave thanks and reflected on the gift of motherhood.
Thank you to all the families who joined us. It was a pleasure to share such a meaningful morning together. Huge shout out too, to the mums who stayed for the remainder of the day working at our Mother’s Day Stall in Lower Primary, particularly to Kupra R for her organisation and enthusiasm in leading this stall.
A Real Schools Blog by Adam Voight
I subscribe to a weekly blog written by Adam Voight from Real Schools, and I was particularly interested in his view on talking less and listening more when engaging with our children. See below for his insights…
Every parent wants their child to succeed in school, but challenges are a natural part of any student’s educational journey. Whether it’s academic difficulties, social issues, or behavioural concerns, knowing how to approach these problems can make a big difference. Here are some tips for parents on how to effectively support their children when school-related issues arise.
Ask the Right Questions
If your child has been in a big argument or fight with a friend, it’s natural to want to jump in and fix things.
However, instead of leading with questions like, “Who started it?” or “Was it Max again?” take a breath and approach the conflict with curiosity.
Ask open-ended questions like, “Why do you think the conflict happened?” or “What could you have done differently?” Instead of immediately trying to resolve the issue, ask, “How are you going to work this out?”
This encourages your child to think critically and take responsibility for their actions.
Talk Less, Listen More
As parents, we often feel the need to do all the talking when conflict arises, trying to fix the situation for our children. This can lead to jumping to conclusions and overshadowing the issue.
Instead, ask one of the open-ended questions above and then count slowly to eight seconds. This pause creates a space for your child to share their perspective. Often, they just want to talk it through, not necessarily ask you to step in and solve the problem.
The Car Ride
Have you noticed that children often open up more when they are in the car, on a walk, or while kicking a ball around? One reason for this is the lack of direct, interrogative eye contact, which can be intimidating. These situations provide a more relaxed environment, making it easier for your child to talk through issues. Use these opportunities to have meaningful conversations without the pressure of sitting face-to-face.
Conclusion
Navigating school challenges can be tough, but with the right approach, you can help your child overcome obstacles and thrive. Stay curious, listen more than you talk, and take advantage of relaxed moments to have important conversations. By fostering a supportive and proactive environment, you’re setting your child up for success not just in school, but in life.
If you feel as though you need further conversation in supporting your son or daughter at school, the best first point of call is your child’s classroom teacher.
Volunteering in the Primary Years
Are you keen to work in our Primary Years classrooms? Have you completed the Face-Face Volunteer Induction?
Please join me next Tuesday 12 May at 8:30am in Belfield Hall for the Term 2 Volunteer Induction. I look forward to seeing many of you there!

Junior High News
Welcome to Week 3
This week, students are expected to wear their full winter uniform, including their blazer, tie and formal hat.
Our winter uniform is more than a dress requirement. The blazer and formal hat are a rich part of our College’s tradition and history. They are also a visual representation of our culture, a sign of pride in our community and an outward-facing representation of St Peters.
When students wear the uniform well, they show that they understand they are part of something bigger than themselves. They also represent the College beyond the school gates: on buses, trains, footpaths, at sport and in the wider community.
We ask families to support us by ensuring students arrive each day in the correct winter uniform, worn neatly and with pride. Small standards matter because they shape habits, identity and the way our students carry themselves as members of the College.
Max Forbes Head of Junior High
Year 7
Year 7 students had Backflips against Bullying scheduled for last Tuesday. Unfortunately, the presenters were ill, so this has been rescheduled for next Tuesday, 12 May. In its place, students looked at the story of Dolly Everett in Pastoral Care last week. Dolly was a boarding student who took her own life due to extreme online bullying. Day for Dolly is this Friday, which is a campaign created by Dolly’s parents, Kate and Tick Everett, to encourage people to speak up and advocate for those who are suffering from bullying. These concepts will be reinforced with the important ideas presented to students next week during Backflips against Bullying.
The Year 7 Camp medical forms have now been sent via email. Please complete these and return them ASAP. Form classes will compete to win a valuable prize for camp: the chance to choose another student to room with. Please contact Mrs Allie Walsh if you have any information that is necessary for the College to be aware of regarding camp that is not covered via the medical form. Year 7 Camp will run from 17–19 June — a perfect way to finish the Class of 2031’s first semester of high school.
Allie Walsh Year 7 Coordinator
Year 8
The Year 8 cohort has been settling into the rhythm of Term 2 well. Recently, we attended the Anzac Day Assembly, which offered students a moment to pause and reflect on the sacrifices made by Anzac soldiers.
In Academic Care and Wellbeing, students have been setting goals for the term, getting organised, and planning their assessment calendars for Term 2. Our students involved in Kaleidoscope have been busy rehearsing over the long weekend with singing, dancing, and acting. In our inter-form competition, 8C is again in the lead. Will they go back-to-back as champions?
Tegan Sutton Year 8 Coordinator
Year 9
A key focus for our Year 9 students has been engagement in learning. Following the release of their Term 1 reports, students have spent time in Pastoral Care reflecting on their individual engagement levels across each subject.
Students were guided through what each level of engagement looks like and, importantly, what is required to move to the next level. Each student has developed a set of practical, personalised strategies such as improving preparation, contributing more actively, and seeking feedback to strengthen their engagement. These reflections have been saved digitally, allowing students to revisit and track their progress over time.
It has been encouraging to see the maturity with which many students have approached this process. Developing strong engagement habits is a critical life skill, one that extends well beyond the classroom, and we are confident this focus will have a positive impact on both their learning and overall experience at the College.
Shaun Berman Year 9 Coordinator (Acting)

St Peters Chamber Chorale Serves at Anzac Day Dawn Service
The St Peters Choir Program was once again honoured to serve the wider community by providing choral music for the 2026 Toowong RSL Anzac Day Dawn Commemoration Service, as well as laying a wreath on behalf of the staff and students of the College.
Despite wet conditions in the early morning, a large and respectful crowd gathered to mark this important national occasion. The Chamber Chorale supported the congregation in singing anthems and hymns and contributed a moving performance of 'In Flanders Fields' by Stephen Rew, offering a moment of quiet reflection within the service.
We extend our sincere thanks to the members of Chamber Chorale for their commitment and professionalism, and to their Director, Ms Kathryn Morton, accompanist Mr David Mibus, and the St Peters staff who supported the students in representing the College with such dignity and respect.

Chorale Camp 2026
Over the recent long weekend, members of St Peters Chorale enjoyed a highly successful and enriching camp at the beautiful Luther Heights Campsite. The camp provided a valuable opportunity for focused musical development as the ensemble prepares for its upcoming Western Australia tour in June.
Across the weekend, students participated in a range of collaborative rehearsals and choral technique sessions, further refining their skills and strengthening ensemble cohesion. These musical experiences were balanced by a variety of social and recreational activities, including lively games and trivia evenings, a creative disco-themed fancy-dress event, and time for rest and study.
A highlight of the camp was the outstanding leadership shown by our Year 12 students, led by Choir Captains Abby G and Amelie P, who dedicated significant time and energy to planning and delivering the social program. Their efforts contributed greatly to the positive and inclusive atmosphere of the camp.
Sincere thanks are extended to Director of Chorale, Ms Kathryn Morton, accompanist Dr Phillip Gearing, and the team of music tutors and staff whose commitment and care ensured a rewarding and memorable experience for all involved.

Women in Brass and Percussion at St Peters
St Peters Lutheran College is proud to host the upcoming Women in Brass and Percussion concert on Saturday 9 May at 7:30pm in the Dron Auditorium. This inspiring event provides a national platform for outstanding female brass and percussion musicians, bringing together performers from Queensland, New South Wales, the ACT, Victoria, Tasmania and New Zealand.
Audiences will be treated to a performance of exceptional calibre, featuring internationally renowned tenor horn artist and educator, Sheona White. Under the direction of Musical Director Maureen Cameron and organiser Marissa Clarke, this remarkable ensemble represents some of the finest female brass players in the Southern Hemisphere.
In the lead-up to the concert, musicians rehearsed on campus in the Band Room over the weekend of 2–3 May, and the ensemble is already sounding fantastic. The energy and artistry developing through these rehearsals promise a memorable and uplifting performance.
As part of this unique opportunity, several of our advanced St Peters female musicians have been invited to perform alongside the ensemble. Congratulations to Grace O, Sophie C, Ella G, Monique H, River L, Madeleine N, Olivia P, Leona L, Georgia K and Eleanor P on this outstanding achievement.
In addition, all brass students at St Peters will have the opportunity to work with Sheona White in a special masterclass on Friday 8 May from 12:00pm – 1:30pm in the PAC Theatrette. This is an invaluable chance for our students to learn from one of the world’s leading performers.
We warmly invite members of the St Peters community to attend this exceptional concert and celebrate the artistry and contribution of women in brass and percussion. Please refer to the attached poster for ticket details.

On Saturday 2 May, we officially launched the 2026 Rowing Season at the Terrace Rowing Shed with our annual Season Launch and Boat Naming Ceremony.
It was a great afternoon bringing together students, families, and the wider College community to mark the start of the season. A highlight was the naming and christening of new additions to our fleet, including two quad sculls, Springfield and Mitchell Bridge (2021), the latter named in honour of an Old Scholar who has represented Australia in Rowing.
Five single sculls were also named. Four were named after our boarding houses: Ludke-Mutze, Schilling, Cameron-Herse, and Finger, while a fifth, Helen Allard, was named in honour of a past Director of Rowing and St Peters parent.
We thank Acting Head of College Lisa Delaney and Director of Sport Shaun Nodwell for attending and supporting the ceremony, as well as all members of the community who joined us on the day. With the season now underway, there is a strong sense of energy around the shed, and we’re looking forward to what’s ahead on the water.
Lutheran Shield Regatta
Our Year 8 and Year 9 crews competed at the Lutheran Shield Regatta on Saturday against Trinity College, gaining valuable early-season racing experience in challenging conditions at Coomera.
The Year 9 crews had a strong showing, dropping just one race across the day and setting a great tone for the season ahead. The Year 8s showed plenty of determination, taking on big fields, wind, and rain, and gaining invaluable race experience in the process. They are set for a big season of competitive racing in Terms 2 and 3.
It was a pleasing start to the season for both groups, with strong effort, resilience, and a clear platform to build on as we head into the coming regattas.

With Round 1 kicking off last weekend, it was great to have all teams playing at one venue at St Patrick's College. Chess got St Peters underway on Friday night with the boys bouncing back from a difficult matchup vs St Patricks College last year to mark some impressive opening victories for our young men. With both the Football and Rugby teams playing at Curlew Park, it was great to roam the flats and see as many matches as possible in one location before the start of the long weekend. This weekend, our Seniors will be away at Marist, and our Juniors will compete at home. We wish them the best of luck!
First Team Presentations
Last Thursday evening, we announced our St Peters Open Rowing Quad, 1st IV Chess, 1st XI Football, and our 1st XV Rugby teams. It was a combined gathering where we acknowledged and congratulated the selected members of each team. Mr Joel Butler addressed the players and presented them with their playing shirts and badges. It filled me with great honour to see the young men take pride in their uniform and to 'play for the crest', with many students being teammates for several years, and to hear many discussions of brotherhood.

ROWING
Season Launch & Boat Naming

Rowing Information
We have created two dedicated Firefly pages packed with key information about the season, including training structure, expectations, and answers to common questions. These are a great first point of reference as you prepare for the season ahead:
The St Peters Athletic Development Program supports students’ physical development and athletic performance, with sessions held before and after school in the Indooroopilly weights room.
Years 7–9: Focus on fundamental movement skills
Years 10–12: Build on these foundations with tailored, sport-specific programs
All experience levels are welcome, and students are encouraged to participate year-round to complement their chosen sports. The Term 2 schedule is available on the St Peters App.
The grey training shirt is compulsory for all students from 2026, replacing the white PE shirt previously worn to training. It is available via School Locker at St Peters Indooroopilly.
Please note: this shirt is for cocurricular sport training only and is not to be worn during the school day (8:00am – 3:10pm).
Matchday expectations
All students are expected to be correctly dressed for AIC training and games. Uniforms are available from Shop 45 or School Locker (see website for hours).
On matchdays, enclosed footwear must be worn to and from games. Slides and Crocs are not permitted at St Peters or AIC venues.
St Peters Student Spectators and Parents on Gamedays
As Term 2 AIC sport continues, all members of the St Peters community are reminded to uphold the values of inclusion, respect and sportsmanship.
Support all players and respect officials’ decisions
Focus on effort, enjoyment and participation over results
Model positive behaviour — students take their cues from adults
Show appreciation to coaches, staff and officials
Raise any concerns respectfully through the appropriate College channels
AIC events are not the place for conflict. By working together, we ensure a positive experience for all and represent St Peters with pride.
With regards to wet weather and any unforeseen or potential cancellations of AIC sports, please ensure that you keep an eye out for notifications and alerts via the St Peters App. We will endeavour to keep everyone updated on both training cancellations and game day changes as the week progresses.
Concussion Awareness
As we commence the Term 1 AIC (Australian Rules/Cricket/Volleyball) season, I would like to share some important information regarding injury management, return-to-sport procedures, and concussion awareness. These processes are in place to support student safety and to ensure clear communication between the school, families, and medical professionals. All injuries or incidents that occur during training or matches are managed in line with the College’s risk management procedures. Where required, injuries are documented and followed up by the school and Sports Medicine staff.
Concussion identification and management are a priority across all AIC sports. To assist parents in recognising the signs and symptoms of concussion, we strongly encourage you to view the following Australian Sports Concussion Identification video:
This short video provides practical guidance on what to look for and what steps to take if you have concerns about your child following a sporting event.
If a concussion or suspected concussion occurs during school sport, the College will follow its concussion management protocol and communicate directly with families regarding next steps.

Indooroopilly Safer School Precinct – Community Consultation
We’re taking action with Brisbane City Council to ease congestion and improve safety on the streets around our school.
Council has launched their new Safer School Precinct program, and Indooroopilly is the fourth precinct to launch in Brisbane, with community consultation now open. This program aims to ease congestion around a cluster of schools and their surrounding areas and to provide everyone with safer, more convenient choices for how we move around our schools.
We’re working closely with Council to ensure St Peters Lutheran College’s needs are met, and your feedback is vital to shaping Council’s plan for our precinct.
Council is inviting everyone who lives, works, learns, visits, and plays in the area to have their say in shaping the future of transport around our schools and suburbs. Council will use your feedback from the community consultation, alongside technical data, to plan and deliver improved infrastructure to meet the needs of our Indooroopilly Safer School Precinct.
Join us in having your say in Council’s community consultation by completing the online survey on their website. Community consultation closes 11:59pm on Sunday 7 June.
