AIC Term 2 Sport – Trial Round vs St Edmund’s College
This weekend’s AIC Trial Round will take on a unique format as it coincides with Anzac Day on Saturday 25 April. Fixtures against St Edmund's College will be held across a range of venues, with all matches scheduled after midday. Families are reminded that draws, venues, and match times may vary from typical schedules, so please check the app carefully and confirm that your son has signed up and is available to participate. Please ensure you have completed the form to confirm your son’s attendance or unavailability.

Please note that Chess will take place on Friday 24 April, with students being bused to St Edmund’s College. Students selected to compete have been notified by email today by Mr Clatworthy and Mr Chadwick.
We recognise that there may be questions about playing sport on Anzac Day, as this day holds deep significance for many Australians. The scheduling of fixtures is determined at a school level in consultation with our opposition, and in line with guidance from organisations such as RSL Australia. Matches have been deliberately scheduled after midday to avoid conflicts with morning commemorative services.
This approach allows students, families, and staff to attend Anzac services, reflect, and honour those who have served before participating in the weekend’s sporting commitments. As a community, we are also exploring ways to respectfully acknowledge the importance of Anzac Day across our fixtures.
We appreciate your support and understanding, and we look forward to a positive and respectful round of AIC sport.

Football
Towards the end of Term 1, our Football program continued to build strong momentum with a series of preseason fixtures against Corinda State High School, Padua College, and Ambrose Treacy College. These matches provided valuable opportunities for players across all year levels to develop combinations, gain match fitness, and prepare for the upcoming Term 2 AIC competition.
Last term, several new initiatives were introduced to further enhance player development. Our Student Free Day Carnival offered additional game exposure in a competitive but enjoyable environment, while specialised Goalkeeper Coaching sessions have been a standout addition to the program.
These sessions have been led by Jamie Young, who brings a wealth of experience, with over 600 professional appearances for clubs including Brisbane Roar, Melbourne City, and Western United.
Over the holiday break, our First XI Squad attended a three-day training camp on the Sunshine Coast. The camp included a fixture against Sunshine Coast Wanderers U16s, alongside a range of team-building activities designed to strengthen cohesion and culture within the group. Players also engaged in detailed video analysis sessions, allowing them to review performances and further refine their tactical understanding ahead of the season.
These experiences have set a strong foundation for the term ahead, with players and staff looking forward to the challenges of the AIC season.
Further opportunities for players will begin with St Peters entering the Bill Turner Cup, a national U15 knockout tournament and the UHL Sport Cup U19 Brisbane-based competition.
Finally, the Football Support Group would like to extend an invitation to the St Peters Football Trivia Night, which offers a casual, fun evening of trivia. Open to students and parents, tables of up to eight can be mixed. No Football knowledge needed. Held on 6:00pm Saturday 9 May at Café 45. BYO food, drinks from bar, raffle tickets available.

Rugby Union
Over the holidays the St Peters Senior Rugby squad returned to international touring for the first time in many years when they embarked on a memorable seven-day tour of New Zealand’s South Island. The tour boys flew into Christchurch where they stayed for the first three nights before traveling down to Dunedin by bus for the remaining four days.
During this time, the squad played three local schools: St Andrews College in Christchurch and Taieri College, based outside of Dunedin, before finishing the tour by playing New Zealand Rugby schoolboys powerhouse Otago Boys High. The results were very positive with the boys winning two games, beating St Andrews College and Otago Boys High School and losing one game to Taieri College.
Off the field, the boys enjoyed some of the local tourist activities, visiting the Adrenaline Forest High Ropes course and the International Antarctic Centre in Christchurch and scaling the world's steepest street, Baldwin Street in Dunedin. The boys were also lucky enough to experience a taste of professional Rugby through training sessions with both the Canterbury Crusaders Academy coaching staff, held at Rugby Park in Christchurch, and the Otago Rugby Union coaching staff in Dunedin.
One of the highlights of the tour was attending the Super Rugby Pacific clash between the Canterbury Crusaders and the Fijian Drua.
The tour was a great preparation for the upcoming AIC Rugby season, with the boys also making lifelong memories.
We do look forward to our next International Rugby Union tour in 2028.
St Peters Rugby Union is pleased to offer an experience of a lifetime, with a planned interstate tour celebrating the upcoming 2027 Rugby World Cup. This tour is strictly open to students from Years 8–12 in 2027. This tour will only be available to boys who have committed to and played Rugby Union throughout the 2026 and 2027 AIC Rugby Union seasons.

Cross Country
Cross Country training is well underway with sessions offered every day to balance your Term 2 sporting schedule. Meets are on Wednesday afternoons and begin in Mid Term 2, so they will not clash with your AIC fixtures — you can do both!
Run Club meets every Friday at 6:30am at the internal bus stop. Whether you’re new to running or already clocking up big kilometres, everyone is welcome! Students can run anywhere from 1–10km, at their own pace and ability. Run Club is all about moving, chatting, and starting your Friday off on the right foot. Lace up and come along. You don’t have to be fast, or fit, just keen!
Rowing
St Peters Rowing Update – Momentum Building Across the Program
It has been an exciting and action-packed period across the St Peters Rowing program, with camps, selections, and new athletes all contributing to the strong momentum building as we head towards the season.
Boys Rowing Camp – Sunshine Coast
We recently wrapped up our Boys Rowing Camp on the Sunshine Coast, marking our first time at this fantastic venue — and it certainly delivered. The camp was filled with energy, development, and plenty of memorable moments. A highlight was seeing our Year 10 boys (and a number of Year 9s) step into sweep rowing, building new skills and confidence in larger boats. At the same time, our Year 8 cohort embraced the challenge of single sculling, with many jumping out of their comfort zones and even attempting a few tricks along the way. In one of the more spirited moments of the camp, the Open Boys took on the coaches in a much-anticipated race, claiming a convincing victory in open water. The result has already set the tone for a rematch in 2027.
The camp was a fantastic opportunity to strengthen connections, build culture, and continue developing the foundations for the season ahead.
Looking Ahead
Across both the boys’ and girls’ programs, there is a clear sense of momentum building. From athlete development and representative honours through to strong engagement at entry level, the foundations for a successful season are firmly in place. We look forward to an exciting term ahead as we continue to build towards racing, strengthen our culture, and create opportunities for every athlete in the shed.
We have created two dedicated Firefly pages packed with key information about the season — training structure, expectations, and answers to common questions. These are a great first point of reference as you prepare for the season ahead:

Athletic Development
The St Peters Athletic Development Program supports students’ physical development and athletic performance, with sessions held before and after school in the Indooroopilly weights room.
- Years 7–9: Focus on fundamental movement skills
- Years 10–12: Build on these foundations with tailored, sport-specific programs
All experience levels are welcome, and students are encouraged to participate year-round to complement their chosen sports. The Term 2 schedule is available on the St Peters App.
Coordinator: Leigh Smith l.smith1@stpeters.qld.edu.au
Grey Training Shirts
The grey training shirt is compulsory for all students from 2026, replacing the white PE shirt previously worn to training. It is available via School Locker at St Peters Indooroopilly.
Please note: this shirt is for cocurricular sport training only and is not to be worn during the school day (8:00am – 3:10pm).
Matchday expectations
All students are expected to be correctly dressed for AIC training and games. Uniforms are available from Shop 45 or School Locker (see website for hours).
On matchdays, enclosed footwear must be worn to and from games. Slides and Crocs are not permitted at St Peters or AIC venues.
St Peters Student Spectators and Parents on Gamedays
As Term 2 AIC sport continues, all members of the St Peters community are reminded to uphold the values of inclusion, respect and sportsmanship.
- Support all players and respect officials’ decisions
- Focus on effort, enjoyment and participation over results
- Model positive behaviour — students take their cues from adults
- Show appreciation to coaches, staff and officials
- Raise any concerns respectfully through the appropriate College channels
- AIC events are not the place for conflict. By working together, we ensure a positive experience for all and represent St Peters with pride.
For more information, refer to the AIC Code of Conduct.
Wet Weather and Cancellations
With regards to wet weather and any unforeseen or potential cancellations of AIC sports, please ensure that you keep an eye out for notifications and alerts via the St Peters App. We will endeavour to keep everyone updated on both training cancellations and game day changes as the week progresses.
Concussion Awareness
As we commence the Term 1 AIC (Australian Rules/Cricket/Volleyball) season, I would like to share some important information regarding injury management, return-to-sport procedures, and concussion awareness. These processes are in place to support student safety and to ensure clear communication between the school, families, and medical professionals. All injuries or incidents that occur during training or matches are managed in line with the College’s risk management procedures. Where required, injuries are documented and followed up by the school and Sports Medicine staff.
Concussion identification and management are a priority across all AIC sports. To assist parents in recognising the signs and symptoms of concussion, we strongly encourage you to view the following Australian Sports Concussion Identification video:
Australian Sports Concussion Identification – YouTube
This short video provides practical guidance on what to look for and what steps to take if you have concerns about your child following a sporting event.
If a concussion or suspected concussion occurs during school sport, the College will follow its concussion management protocol and communicate directly with families regarding next steps.
