For many parents, 'balance' can feel like an impossible goal, juggling work, parenting, study, household responsibilities and, somewhere in there, caring for yourself. Rather than picturing balance as perfectly even scales, it may be more helpful to see it as an attitude or daily choice.
Research shows that when parents experience a positive sense of life balance, everyone benefits. A greater balance is linked to improved wellbeing, stronger family relationships, and better mental health outcomes for children. Conversely, when parents feel constantly overwhelmed by work and family pressures, it can impact their own mental health and their children’s health and development.
Balance is equally important in children’s lives. From Prep through to Year 12, children thrive when their days include a healthy mix of learning, rest, play, study, connection and downtime. Overscheduling, constant screen time, or high academic and extra-curricular pressures without opportunities to recharge can increase stress and anxiety. In contrast, balanced routines support emotional regulation, resilience, concentration and positive behaviour. Unstructured activity, family connection, adequate sleep and time outdoors all contribute to healthy brain development and social growth. When children see adults modelling healthy boundaries and self-care, they learn valuable lifelong habits about managing stress and prioritising wellbeing.
Importantly, balance looks different for every family. It depends on your values, circumstances and season of life. The goal is not perfection. Instead, it’s about feeling satisfied with how you are spending your time in ways that align with what matters most to you.
If life feels out of balance, small daily changes can make a meaningful difference:
Prioritise small moments of self-care. Even 10–15 minutes to enjoy a quiet cup of tea, a podcast, a walk, or reading can help regulate stress and support mental health.
Set realistic work and study expectations. Create boundaries between work, school and home life wherever possible.
Protect sleep and downtime for children and teens. Rest is foundational for learning, mood and physical health.
Focus on the positives. Practising gratitude for connections at work, school, or home can increase overall wellbeing.
Lean on your support network. Reaching out to friends, extended family, or professional supports can reduce stress and lighten the load.
Schedule intentional family time. Quality matters more than quantity. Even brief, focused time together strengthens connection.
Some days will feel more balanced than others, and that’s normal. The key is not achieving perfect equilibrium but choosing each day to make small adjustments that support your wellbeing and your family’s development. When families experience a sense of balance, everyone is better positioned to flourish.

Pressing On
I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14
I wonder if you have been as enamoured by the Winter Olympics as I have? As a self-confessed sports tragic, I revelled in the Australian tennis swing and was then very happy to see the Winter Olympics take up the baton less than a week after the Australian Open finished.
I love the Olympics — both Summer and Winter. But every time the Winter Olympics come around, I’m reminded again of how amazing and ridiculous the sports and the athletes are. There is so much risk involved and incredible courage shown in so many of the events. Add in the unpredictability of the weather for the outdoor events, and it’s the perfect combination of craziness.
For these athletes, representing their country at the Olympics is the highest honour. They spend years dedicating their lives to training, in the hope that when it’s their time, they will be able to perform their best on the world’s biggest stage.
For some athletes, dreams come true, and they gain a place on the podium and become an Olympic medallist. All the hard work pays off, and they feel that sense of elation, triumph, and reward when it all comes together at just the right time. For others, the devastation is real, as their hopes slip away, and they face the reality of another four years of disciplined training, until they get the chance to try all over again — to press on toward their goal.
In Paul’s letter to the Philippians, he likens living the Christian life to an athletic pursuit. The Christian life is an ongoing pursuit of Christ-likeness. Just as the athletes in the Winter Olympics pursue excellence and perfection, the goal for the Christian is that Christ may be seen and glorified through their life.
A huge part of each athlete’s team is the coach who supports them on their journey — keeping them on track, celebrating personal bests, and encouraging them in times of disappointment. God also gives us a coach for the Christian journey, in the Holy Spirit. The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit will teach us and remind us of what Jesus said and did (John 14:26), help us in our weaknesses (Romans 8:26), advocate for us and guide us to truth (John 15:26, 16:13).
Life can be hard, and sometimes the path ahead feels like a steep, slippery slope, and we aren’t quite prepared or equipped for it. It’s good to remember that we have one who journeys with us, encourages us, and helps us 'press on' whatever the circumstances.

Whether you choose to walk, run or stroll, this is a wonderful opportunity to come together, represent St Peters and support a cause that impacts so many families. Together, we can make a meaningful difference. We encourage all students, families and staff to take part, support one another and help create lasting impact beyond the event itself.

The ever-popular St Peters Ladies Lunch is back! We warmly invite our mothers and caregivers to join us for an afternoon of connection, conversation, and celebration.
Hosted by the wonderful Bec Sparrow, this year, Ladies Lunch will support a meaningful Service Learning initiative. Our goal is to raise $20,000 to fund a St Peters‑exclusive Red Earth Immersion Tour in 2026 — an extraordinary opportunity for 20 Junior High and Senior School students to connect with more than 65,000 years of Indigenous Australian culture. By joining us and by taking part in the day’s fundraising activities, you’ll help make this life‑changing tour more affordable and accessible to St Peters families who may not otherwise have the opportunity.
In place of a guest speaker, you'll hear from students who have previously taken part in the immersion. Their stories and reflections promise to be inspiring highlights of the day. Future Immersion Tour participants are already hard at work gathering beautiful raffle prizes and will be joining us at the event, and you’ll be helping them take the next step on their journey of a lifetime.
Enjoy delicious food, great company and some well-deserved time to sit back and relax. Tickets include a glass of bubbles on arrival, a two-course meal and a three-hour drinks package. Dress code is formal daytime to cocktail attire. There will also be a silent auction during the event and a terrific range of raffle prizes on offer. As part of Year 7 English this term, students have been analysing and writing narratives. To further support this unit, Langer Library welcomed award-winning author, Richard Yaxley on Tuesday 24 February to speak with the cohort.
Richard was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for services to education, literature, and the performing arts, and is the author of more than 10 novels and several collections of short stories and poetry. Having won the Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Young Adult Literature in 2018 for his novel This is My Song and the Queensland Premier’s Award for Young Adult Fiction in 2010 for Drink the Air, Richard's expertise and passion for writing certainly enriched the Year 7 program.
Richard's advice included centring narratives on well-thought-out characters and structuring narratives by posing the question, 'What if?' He spoke about the importance of curiosity when planning stories and research to help give the text authenticity. Richard also described the author's job as "disrupting the protagonist's life" and promoted editing as the secret ingredient of effective writing.
We are very grateful to have shared this time with Richard and for his generosity and guidance.
Langer Library has a wide collection of Richard's books available for loan.
ID Cards
To streamline the printing and borrowing processes at Langer Library, we request that students bring their ID Cards with them. ID Cards are also required when borrowing chargers. ID Cards are especially important when printing, alleviating common login issues and speeding up the queue during peak times.
We thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter.

Academic Matters
Academic Hub Update
Academic Hub Update
The first four weeks of the academic year have been busy and productive, with students settling into new classes and preparing for their first assessment tasks.
At St Peters, student learning sits at the centre of all we do. We are committed to supporting academic growth while also developing confident, capable young people who take increasing responsibility for their learning from Year 7 through to Year 12. Our Academic Hub works closely with students and families to provide guidance and individualised support. The team can assist with academic progress, subject selection and subject changes, assessment processes, and special consideration (AARA). If you have any questions regarding your child’s academic pathway, please contact the Academic Hub (located adjacent to Shop 45). Staff details are listed below.
Year 12 students have commenced individual academic mentoring meetings to review their Units 1 and 2 results and discuss progress towards their post-school goals. These conversations focus on QCE attainment, ATAR eligibility and pathway planning. We encourage families to continue these discussions at home and to contact the Academic Hub if further clarification is needed.
Updated short-term AARA Application Process
From the beginning of Week 6, we will introduce a new 7–12 online Microsoft Form for short-term AARA (Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments) applications. For students in Years 7–10, this replaces the previous PDF and email process. The online form captures all required information and allows supporting documentation to be uploaded directly. The process for Years 11–12 remains unchanged.
From next week, students in Years 7-12 can submit short-term AARA applications using this link: 7–12 AARA Application Form
Further information about short-term AARA processes is available on Firefly. The full policy can be found in the Academic, Assessment, Reporting and Honours Guide. If you are unsure about any aspect of the process, please contact the Academic Hub for guidance.
Best wishes for the 2026 academic year.

Triple P Seminar Off to a Strong Start
We were delighted to welcome more than 20 parents and caregivers to our first Triple P seminar of the year, The Power of Positive Parenting. It was wonderful to see such strong engagement from our community as we explored practical, research‑informed strategies to support confident, calm parenting.
The seminar focused on five key foundations of positive parenting. Attendees reflected on the importance of creating safe and engaging environments that ensure children have the security and stimulation they need to thrive. We also discussed ways to build a positive learning environment, using encouragement and shared moments to foster curiosity and persistence.
Another central theme was assertive discipline — setting clear, consistent boundaries while maintaining warmth and respect. Parents also considered the value of having reasonable expectations, recognising that children’s behaviour and development unfold at different stages and in their own time. Finally, the group explored the often‑overlooked but essential practice of looking after yourself as a parent, acknowledging that self‑care enables stronger, more patient relationships at home.
It was especially encouraging to hear from several attendees who have already incorporated strategies from the seminar into their daily routines and are noticing early positive changes.
Our next session in the Triple P series, Raising Confident, Competent Children, will be held on 24 March. We look forward to another engaging and supportive discussion as we continue working together to empower families and nurture resilient young learners.
Swimming Carnival Success
Our Years 3/4 and Years 5/6 swimming carnivals were a tremendous success, showcasing not only our students' talent but also their willingness to participate with courage and enthusiasm. This year’s format allowed swimmers of all abilities to compete in skill‑appropriate races, creating a supportive environment where every student felt confident to give their best. The result was noticeably higher participation and braver performances than in previous years, with many students stepping outside their comfort zones and celebrating personal achievements.
A heartfelt thank you to the parents who braved the heat to cheer from the sidelines—your energy and encouragement helped make the day special for our young athletes. And of course, a huge pat on the back to Ben Shields, our dedicated PE team, SPW coaches and Sports House. Their organisation, enthusiasm, and commitment ensured the carnivals ran smoothly and successfully.

QGSSSA and AIC Swimming Championships
The QGSSSA and AIC Swimming Championships are fast approaching. Junior High girls in Years 8 and 9 can volunteer to spectate at the QGSSSA evening event on Wednesday 4 March. The AIC Swimming Championships will be held the following week, on Tuesday 10 March. All Year 8 boys will be attending this event, which is held during school hours. Transport will be provided for all student supporters, with buses returning prior to the end of the school day. More information will be provided to parents and students closer to this event. Both carnivals promise to showcase exceptional swimming talent and school spirit.

Year 7
The Year 7s are continuing to build on their skills in organisation, expectations, and curriculum aspects as part of their transition into Secondary School. Part of this program is to have some positive interactions with Year 12 students, both as buddies and as someone they can look to for guidance when they have questions or a friendly face around campus.
Today, during Pastoral Care, the Year 7s had the pleasure of presenting their Year 12 buddies with their seniors jersey, a symbol of their journey through Secondary School, which has reached its final year. We know our Year 12 buddies have been excitedly looking forward to receiving their jerseys and we look forward to seeing them wear them around the campus with pride and as a reminder of their own journey and achievements, since their time in Year 7 back in 2021.
Below is a photo of some of our Class of 2026 when they presented senior jerseys back in 2021, along with photos from today's presentations.

Year 8
This week, Year 8 students have continued their leadership journey by participating in interviews for the Form Class Representative role. We received a strong number of applications, and we commend all students who nominated themselves for the excellent effort and preparation they demonstrated throughout the process.
In the Pastoral Care program, students have been focusing on self-care, exploring practical strategies and activities that support positive wellbeing.
This term, Year 8 students are also competing in the inter-form competition. An update on the current Form standings is provided below.
Tegan Sutton Year 8 Coordinator
Year 9
Our Year 9 cohort continues to demonstrate impressive growth in leadership and character. This week, shortlisted students participated in interviews for leadership positions, showing maturity, courage and a genuine desire to serve others. On Wednesday, eight students confidently delivered outstanding speeches at the Junior High Assembly. Each speech reflected thoughtful preparation and a strong understanding of what authentic leadership looks like in our community. The endorsement process will take place over the coming days, giving our student and staff body the opportunity to support these aspiring leaders and reinforcing the importance of student voice and shared responsibility.
In Pastoral Care, our focus has been on putting Character Strengths into action. Building on the VIA Character Strengths work, students explored how their unique strengths can be intentionally used in everyday situations — particularly in moments that call for kindness, integrity and initiative. It has been encouraging to see students beginning to view leadership not simply as a position, but as a daily practice.

This year, we are excited to launch a new competition celebrating girls' sport. St Peters will host the inaugural swimming event, marking what promises to be a historic occasion. The competition has now been officially named: the Junior Girls Sport Alliance (JGSA), through which students will compete for the Fortissima Cup.
The JGSA name is simple, clear, and welcoming, celebrating girls’ strength, teamwork, and joy in sport. The Fortissima Cup — spanning Swimming, Cross Country, and Athletics — comes from the Latin 'fortissima', meaning 'strongest' or 'very strong,' reflecting courage, camaraderie, and the spirit of participation.
Students selected for the swimming team will be notified next week, and we can’t wait to see them give their best on Monday, 9 March.
Years 3–6 Inter-House Swimming Carnival
Our Inter-House Swimming Carnival was a fantastic celebration of participation, perseverance and House pride. From the first whistle to the final relay, the pool deck was filled with colour, noise and wholehearted encouragement as students cheered on their teammates and gave their very best in the water.
Congratulations to Cunningham House, crowned overall champions and worthy winners of what is always one of the House events of the year. Their spirit, teamwork and consistent effort across all age groups were outstanding.
A sincere thank you to our House Captains for the energy and leadership they brought to the day. Leading chants, marshalling swimmers and keeping the encouragement high all day is no small task, and they represented their Houses with pride and enthusiasm.
Well done also to all Age Champions and medallists across Years 3–6. Your commitment, courage and attitude were wonderful to witness, and you should be very proud of your achievements.
We now look forward to seeing that same House spirit, friendly rivalry and determination continue at our Inter-House Cross Country Carnival on Friday 27 March. Let’s keep the momentum going!
Inter-Lutheran Swimming Championships
On Monday 2 March our Years 3–6 swimmers selected to represent the College will take on other Lutheran schools across Queensland in the first Inter-Lutheran Championship of the year. Last year, our swimmers took home the overall title, so we wish them well this year and know they will represent St Peters with pride and integrity.

Volleyball BBQ Roster – Round 2 Saturday 15 February
We are also looking for 1 or 2 parents to help coordinate the Junior BBQ (Years 7–9). There are three to four BBQs in the season, and coordinating includes helping with setup and food. If you are interested in helping, please email us at volleyballpsg@stpeters.qld.edu.au. Without your help and time, the Volleyball Support Group will find it difficult to run the fundraising BBQs and support your children in their Volleyball pursuits! If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at: volleyballpsg@stpeters.qld.edu.au
Football
The 2026 St Peters Football season is officially underway, with trials for all boys teams (Years 5–12) beginning next week. Players should check the training schedule below and on the app to ensure they are prepared for their sessions. Your enthusiasm and commitment to the sport set the foundation for another exciting season!
Looking ahead, we are thrilled to announce the annual Old Scholars Match, scheduled for Monday 2 March at 4:00pm on Harts Rd. This highly anticipated fixture is a great opportunity for our current players to face past students in a competitive, spirited match. We encourage the school community to come along and support what is always a fantastic display of football and sportsmanship.
Stay tuned for more updates as the season progresses, and best of luck to all players in trials next week!
Cross Country
Cross Country Training has started! There are sessions offered every day to balance your Term 1 sporting schedule. Please prioritise your current Term 1 sporting commitments. Meets are on Wednesday afternoons and begin in mid-Term 2, so they won't clash with your AIC fixtures — you can do both!
Run Club also meets every Friday at 6:30am at the internal bus stop. Whether you’re new to running or already clocking up big kilometres, everyone is welcome! Students can run anywhere from 1–10km, at their own pace and ability. Run Club is all about moving, chatting, and starting your Friday off on the right foot. Lace up and come along — you don’t have to be fast, or fit, just keen! Open to all staff as well!

ST PETERS STUDENT AND PARENT SPECTATORS ON GAMEDAYS
As we continue the AIC season, we remind students, parents, spectators, and coaches of the shared responsibility to uphold AIC expectations and proudly represent St Peters.
The AIC is founded on inclusion, fellowship and respect. All participants are expected to treat others with dignity, regardless of background, ability, or belief. Sport is an opportunity to model positive behaviour and create an environment where students can enjoy competing, learning and growing.
Parents and spectators play a vital role by supporting all players, respecting officials’ decisions, and recognising that school sport relies heavily on volunteer coaches and match officials. Encouragement should focus on effort, enjoyment and participation rather than results. Positive role modelling is essential — students learn best through example.
Coaches, teachers and officials — both our own and those from opposing schools — should be shown appreciation for their time and commitment. Communication regarding sport should always be respectful and directed through appropriate College channels.
Importantly, AIC events are not appropriate venues for any conflict or dispute. Any concerns should be raised calmly and through the correct processes. Together, by demonstrating respect, sportsmanship and integrity, we ensure AIC sport remains a positive and rewarding experience and continue to represent St Peters with pride.
For more information regarding the AIC Code of Conduct, CLICK HERE.
Concussion Awareness
As we commence the Term 1 AIC (Australian Rules/Cricket/Volleyball) season, I would like to share some important information regarding injury management, return-to-sport procedures, and concussion awareness. These processes are in place to support student safety and to ensure clear communication between the school, families, and medical professionals. All injuries or incidents that occur during training or matches are managed in line with the College’s risk management procedures. Where required, injuries are documented and followed up by the school and Sports Medicine staff.
Concussion identification and management are a priority across all AIC sports. To assist parents in recognising the signs and symptoms of concussion, we strongly encourage you to view the following Australian Sports Concussion Identification video:
This short video provides practical guidance on what to look for and what steps to take if you have concerns about your child following a sporting event.
If a concussion or suspected concussion occurs during school sport, the College will follow its concussion management protocol and communicate directly with families regarding next steps.

The St Peters Athletic Development Program supports students' physical growth and athletic performance, with sessions available before and after school in the Weights Room. Juniors (Grades 7-9) focus on mastering fundamental movement patterns, while Seniors (Years 10–12) build on these skills with tailored programs for all levels. Regardless of gym experience, we cater for all levels and encourage all students to take advantage of this opportunity.
Girls are encouraged to attend Athletic Development sessions year-round (pre-season, in-season, and post-season) to complement their involvement in their chosen sports programs. The training schedule is available on the St Peters App.
Run Club is a great way to improve your fitness in an inclusive environment! Plus, receive a free Zooper Dooper at the end of your run! Run Club is open to all members of our community (including Staff), and available on Friday mornings. Meet at Internal Bus Stop, Indooroopilly Campus 6:30am – 7:30am. Students can run anywhere from 1–10km, at their own pace and ability.
Make sure you’re subscribed to Cross Country on the St Peters App to access the training schedule and to receive any notifications of Run Club cancellations.
uniform expectations
Students are reminded that it is compulsory to wear the official St Peters Grey training shirt to all training sessions. This ensures consistency across our programs, helps coaches easily identify participants, and maintains the standards of our Girls Sport community. Thank you for supporting our uniform expectations.
For specific sport uniform expectations, please refer to the St Peters App.
Please see the Northern Eagles calendar currently available on the St Peters App. Information regarding Term 1 district nominations have been shared via email to all students. Students need to be part of a St Peters 'A Team' standard or play club at a high level to be nominated. A final decision on nominations will be at the discretion of the Sport Department. Further nomination information will be emailed to students at the start of each term.

Volleyball Orange Round | Saturday 7 March
Join us for Volleyball Orange Round
The St Peters Volleyball teams are painting their home courts orange for next weekend’s games against Villanova College. This is an important day for our Volleyball community, where we show support and raise awareness for blood cancer. Today, more than 53 Australians will be told that they have blood cancer and tomorrow, another 53 families will be devastated by the same news.
The Volleyball Parent Support Group (VPSG) will be running a raffle, BBQ and bake sale and all proceeds will be donated to the Leukaemia Foundation to send a powerful message of hope and support to those facing blood cancer today. The VPSG will be accepting donations of baked goods on Friday and Saturday morning if you would like to contribute.
To date, the St Peters Volleyball community has raised $29,919 for the Leukaemia Foundation. Spectators are encouraged to show their support by wearing orange. Student spectators and players are encouraged to wear a 'touch of orange' along with their formal/playing uniform. This includes orange ribbons, socks, face paint, sweat bands,
In addition to our BBQ and bake sale, we are also hosting a raffle this year. We would be sincerely grateful for any contribution your business can provide, whether a product, voucher, service, or monetary donation, to assist with hamper prizes. In appreciation of your generosity, your business will be acknowledged during ticket sales and recognised through event signage, providing positive exposure within the St Peters community while supporting an important cause. If you would like to contribute, please contact L.Buckby@stpeters.qld.edu.au or volleyballpsg@stpeters.qld.edu.au.
In 2026, St Peters swimmers are chasing an extraordinary milestone. The QGSSSA team is aiming for a remarkable 13th consecutive championship, while the AIC team is set on securing their 10th.
Behind the scenes, countless early mornings, long sessions, and determined preparation have gone into building towards these moments in the pool. The commitment has been impressive — now it’s time to race.
We wish all swimmers the very best as they enter their final weeks of preparation ahead of the championships. Go Saints!

Australian Esports League Results
Marvel Rivals
Following on from a strong 2025 introduction to Marvel Rivals, St Peters Panthers have set a high standard. Our matches this weekend were all best-of-ones, so it was over fairly quickly. This gave the team extra time to practice and discuss tactics for matches next week.
St Peters V Padua 1-0 (Map score 2-0)
St Peters V Trinity College Beenleigh 1-0 (Map score 2-0)
St Peters V Brisbane School of Distance Education 1-0 (Map score 2-1)
Matches were arranged in Swiss format, and we were the only team to go 3-0. Not quite the full perfect sweep as we dropped one round to BSDE, but still a good showing. Lachlan Reese’s Daredevil play was highly commended by the casters (commentators).
League play starts this weekend with regular best-of-three matches.
Minecraft Capture the Flag
St Peters had decisive victories in their first Minecraft competition of the year. New coaches, Benny and Xavier are 2025 St Peters graduates and are bringing their years of successful experience to inspire our younger teams.
St Peters V Punchbowl Boys' High School 13-0
St Peters V Trinity College 15-0
We congratulate them on their communication and focus in securing these early wins.
International Robotics Invitation
Last week, we received notification that our FIRST Tech Challenge team #11506 Flaming Tacos has earned a place at the Asian Pacific Open Competition (APOC) in Sydney in July. It has been a few years since we qualified for this competition. APOC is an international competition, with many teams travelling from across the world to attend this prestigious event. There is a maximum of 42 teams permitted to compete at APOC, so we are very proud that the Flaming Tacos have secured a place in 2026.
