As I prepare to conclude my time at St Peters Springfield, I do so with a heart full of gratitude. From the moment I arrived, this community welcomed me warmly and instantly was a place that felt like home. What stood out to me so strongly was the ‘people’, this is a community built on relationships and a shared commitment to realising our St Peters vision of being, “A learning community where people flourish.”

To our parents and caregivers, thank you for the trust you place in the College and for the partnership we share in supporting your children. The connection between school and home is so important and the way in which we have worked together has been an important strength when encouraging and challenging our young people. I also extend my sincere thanks to our small, but hardworking group of Parents and Friends, whose service and contributions have enriched our community in countless ways.

I have also been fortunate to work alongside exceptional colleagues. To the Teachers and Senior Leadership Team, thank you for your professionalism, support and wisdom. I am grateful for the many challenges and triumphs we have shared together. My thanks also extend to the Executive Leadership Team at St Peters Indooroopilly, whose guidance and encouragement have strengthened both me and our Springfield community throughout my time here.

To our students, thank you. Watching you grow, learn and pursue your passions has been the highlight of my time at St Peters. Whether in the classroom, on the sporting field, on the stage, through service, leadership, debating, wellbeing or countless other pursuits, I have seen young people striving each day for something ‘ever higher’. You have embraced the Plus Ultra mindset, while continuing the legacy in the values of Care, Dignity and Respect. Your achievements have been remarkable.

As I reflect on my time at St Peters Springfield, I am reminded of Paul's words to the church in Philippi: “I thank my God every time I remember you” (Philippians 1:3). Paul wrote these words to a community he loved deeply, giving thanks for their partnership, their encouragement and the journey they had shared together. Those words capture much of how I feel as I write this farewell.

Leading St Peters Springfield has been a source of immense joy and fulfilment. I will take with me some wonderful memories of the journey we have shared together. Thank you for the opportunity and may God continue to bless you in the years to come. I have great confidence in the future of this community and, although I leave, I will continue to carry a little bit of ‘Plus Ultra’ with me wherever I go.

Families preparing for Term 3 are reminded that Shop 45 will be open during the school holidays for uniform fittings, purchases and exchanges.

Located on the Indooroopilly campus, Shop 45 stocks the complete St Peters formal uniform for all year levels, Sport and Music uniforms, approved school shoes, stationery, accessories, swimming goggles, technology accessories, and selected textbooks and novels.

Location: Shop 45 is located beneath Café 45 on the Indooroopilly campus. Families can enter via the Lambert Road entrance and continue along Chapel Road. Parking is available on Chapel Road and Rainforest Drive.

We encourage families to take advantage of these holiday opening hours to ensure students are ready for a smooth start to Term 3.

Recently, several Year 5 and Year 6 students represented the school at the annual Reader's Cup competition. Competing against 31 teams from 16 schools in the Ipswich region, students demonstrated their love of reading, teamwork and commitment as they answered challenging questions based on a range of novels.

Although our teams did not place in the top three overall, they should be incredibly proud of their efforts and the enthusiasm they showed throughout the competition. A highlight of the day was St Peters Team 2 being named the winners of the fifth round of questions, an outstanding achievement against such strong competition.

Students worked hard to prepare, read widely and support one another, making the experience both rewarding and enjoyable. Our Year 5 students are already looking forward to participating again next year! All students are commended for representing our school with pride, determination and enthusiasm.

This term in CDR, our Year 9 students have been focusing on Service Learning, developing an understanding of how they can contribute positively to their community.

As part of this work, students are running collection drives to support the following organisations:

Local Homeless Support Services

We are currently collecting essential items to assist individuals and families in need. 

We warmly welcome any and all donations, no matter how small, and greatly appreciate your support in helping our students make a meaningful impact.

If you are able to contribute, items can be placed in the designated collection tubs outside the YLC Office until the end of Term 3 Week 1.

The Wizard of Oz

The countdown is on! Have you purchased your tickets yet for The Wizard of Oz? Tickets costs are $15 Adult and $10 Student and family of four (2 Adults, 2 Children $40). 

The cast enjoyed presenting several items to the College community last Friday as a taste of what you can experience. Thankyou to the P&F for their financial support for the Musical with the purchase of cast/crew T-shirts and printing of the programs.

Studio Recitals

Thank you to the forty-four students who performed last Thursday at the Studio Recitals in the Learning Commons. These recitals would not be possible without the support of the Private Tutors and provide an opportunity for students to work towards a performing goal to further develop their Arts studies. Thanks to Ms Powell for her organisation.

Term 3 date change for Musical Recitals: The recitals originally scheduled for Monday 26 and Thursday 29 October have been moved to Monday 17 and Thursday 20 August. This is to avoid concert weeks back-to-back. Please make a note of this change.

AVEO

Congratulations to Mrs Schmeider and all the students who performed at AVEO today. The students enjoy giving back to our local community and sharing their talents with the AVEO residents. Secondary students will present in late Term 3.

10-19yrs Central Comets Track & Field Trials

Nominations are now open for the 10-19yrs Central Comets Track and Field trials which will take place on Thursday 30 and Friday 31 of July at The University of QLD St Lucia Campus. Several important documents that must be completed in order for your child to be nominated are available on the College app.

As all paperwork must be submitted to sfd.sport@stpeters.qld.edu.au before 14 July.

Primary Afterschool Sport Program

Primary Students  are invited to participate in a range of after-school sporting opportunities during Term 3.

Programs will run from Weeks 2–7 of Term 3 and are open to students of varying abilities, whether they are trying a sport for the first time or looking to further develop their skills.

One of the great joys of working in education is seeing former students thrive beyond the school gates.

Recently, during a visit to the chemist, I had the pleasure of reconnecting with 2020 graduate, Abbey L. Abbey was a highly motivated student whose kindness, determination and ambition left a lasting impression during her time at St Peters.

Throughout her schooling, Abbey spoke often about her dream of pursuing a career in medicine. She approached her studies with focus and perseverance, always working diligently towards her goals.

It was therefore a wonderful surprise to find Abbey serving customers as a pharmacist and to learn how far she has already progressed on her journey. Since graduating from St Peters Springfield, Abbey has successfully completed a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) and is now preparing to apply to study Medicine at The University of Queensland.

Moments like these are a powerful reminder of the impact our graduates continue to make within their communities. Whether in healthcare, business, education, the arts or countless other fields, St Peters Old Scholars are making meaningful contributions and living lives of purpose.

Pathways and Counselling Leader

On Saturday 13 June, six teams of students and staff proudly represented our school in the Brisbane Kokoda Challenge, taking on distances of 18km, 30km and 48km.

The event marked the culmination of months of dedication, perseverance and hard work. Since November last year, students and staff have committed themselves to an extensive training program that included before-school sessions, after-school training, weekend hikes and countless kilometres of walking and running. Their determination and commitment were evident throughout the challenge.

Adding to the difficulty of the event, participants faced wet and rainy conditions throughout the day. The muddy tracks, slippery terrain and challenging weather tested everyone's resilience and determination even further.

We are incredibly proud of every participant who stepped up to take on this demanding event. The Kokoda Challenge tests not only physical endurance but also teamwork, resilience, courage and mateship. Our students demonstrated these qualities in abundance as they encouraged one another, pushed through difficult moments and worked together to support their teammates.

The achievements of all participants are something to celebrate. Whether completing 18km, 30km or the gruelling 48km course, every student and staff member demonstrated remarkable determination and strength of character. While a small number of students were unable to complete the event due to medical reasons, they should be equally proud of the commitment they showed through months of training and the effort they gave on the day.

Thank you to our families, staff and wider school community for supporting the teams through training, fundraising and encouragement. The success of our Kokoda Challenge teams would not have been possible without your support.

Congratulations to all involved on an outstanding achievement. You have represented our school with pride and embodied the Kokoda spirit every step of the way.
