From the Head of Primary Years

Years 5–6 Familiarisation Morning

Last Thursday, our Year 4 students were involved in a transition morning to Year 5.

If you are a parent of a Year 4 student, we hope that you found this event useful. While you heard about the similarities and differences of Years 5 and 6, the students became more familiar with the surroundings of their new environment for 2019 and what that will offer them.

Our Year 4 students have already been involved in some offerings this year in the Upper Primary precinct, and look forward to more doors opening for them in the new year.

Primary Years Swimming carnivals

Two swimming carnivals were held last Friday in the College’s 25 metre pool. The younger students enjoyed competing in a relaxed morning of fun and activity. Later in the day our Years 4–6 students took their carnival slightly more seriously competing the events on offer.

Sincere thanks go to Mr Peter Dawson, Mr Cameron Glass and Mrs Donna Edwards, whose work in preparation for both events ensures students can enjoy the day, which runs very smoothly. Thanks to the staff for their contribution and to the parents who came along and supported their children.

End-of-Year Preparations and Events

Below are some other important events that you may wish to mark in your calendars if you haven’t already done so:

Prep Christmas Concert

An important aspect of completing a year is the commemoration of special events for many of our children. We will officially begin these with the Prep Christmas Concert next Tuesday evening, 20 November, commencing at 6:00pm in the Prep Centre.

The prep students and staff have been working towards this event for the majority of the term and I’m sure it will be one of the highlights of the Prep year.

Year 6 into 7 Familiarisation Morning

Friday 23 November heralds an exciting morning for our current Year 6 students as they will move forward with their familiarisation morning in Year 7. Details of this event have gone home to all families. I am sure this will allay many concerns or questions your child might have, and hopefully they will enjoy learning who their form teacher and classmates will be for 2019.

Carols under the Stars

On Sunday 25 November, the annual Carols under the Stars will be held on Stolz Oval. This is a wonderful community event, to which you are all invited, to celebrate the Christmas season.

Years 4–6 Presentation Ceremony

On Thursday 29 November we will celebrate with our students, when we hold the Years 4–6 Presentation Ceremony in the PAC at 8:30am. Following this, our parents are invited to share light refreshments in the forecourt of the PAC, while the students return to the various areas for their own celebrations.

Primary Years Christmas Chapel Service

Our very last event for the year will be the annual Primary Years Christmas chapel service on Friday 30 November commencing at 1:30pm in the PAC. This will signify the conclusion of the school year for our families. We invite you all to join us, in celebrating the real purpose of Christmas. Following this event, the students will return to their classrooms, where they will be able to say their farewells to their teacher and friends, before leaving for the year.

Class End-of-Year Celebrations

Many classes choose to have end-of-year celebrations during the final few days and your child’s teacher will be in touch with you regarding the details.

On Sunday 18 November, the second of our Lower Primary Solo Concerts will take place in the Music room and Belfield Hall, commencing at 2:00pm.

MEBS Concert

The MEBS concert will be held on Thursday 22 November from 4:00–5:00pm.

This will be an opportunity for the Year 5 students, who have participated in this program in Semester 2, to show off their newly-acquired talents and skills in front of an audience.
