From the Girls Sports Coordinators

Individual Sport Captains and Vice-Captains for 2019

As we come to the end of 2018, we begin to look towards planning and preparation for 2019 – which is sure to be another exciting year for Girls Sport.

Last week, all girls currently in Years 10–11 were sent an email regarding individual Sports Captains and Vice-Captains for 2019.

All girls who wish to apply for a Sport Specific Captain (current Year 11 girls) or Vice-Captain (current Year 10 girls) position in 2019 have been asked to nominate before next Friday 23 November (Week 7).

Girls who wish to apply for more than one Sport, need to fill in one nomination form per Sport. Please be aware that these nominations are for all Sports (including Terms 3–4 Sports). We will be announcing all 2019 Sport Specific positions early in Term 1, next year.

Junior Softball (Years 7–9)

Coordinator: Girls Sport Coordinators

A huge congratulation to our 9A and 8A Softball teams, who both won QGSSSA Premierships last week. Both teams had a terrific season. The 9A team only had one loss and the 8A team only had one draw, out of eight games so both are fantastic results.

The teamwork and camaraderie in all of our Junior Softball teams was strong and sets a good foundation going in to the trials for the 2019 Senior Softball season.

Well done to all girls, who won awards at the break-up last Thursday morning. We especially thank all of our wonderful Softball coaches for their dedication to this sport.

2019 Open/Senior Softball Trials (Years 9–11)

Trials for all of our Senior Softball teams started this morning and will continue on Harts Road Oval from 6:15am–7:30am, on the following days:

  • Tuesday 20 November;
  • Thursday 22 November;
  • Tuesday 27 November;
  • Thursday 29 November.

Please note that these trials are for all of our Opens and Senior teams, including Senior A and B teams. For those girls who will be in Year 10 next year (current Year 9s) please be aware that this is your only opportunity to play Softball in 2019; as the competition moves to Term 1 for girls in Years 10–12, instead of Term 4 for Years 7–9.

We do hope to have our 2019 Senior Softball teams selected by the end of Term 4; so it is important that girls make as many trials as possible, in order to place them in the correct team.

If you have any problem attending these trials, please see the Girls Sports Coordinators. Girls currently away at Ironbark have been accounted for.

Water Polo

Coordinator: Mrs Jenny Pavlides

Results from the last weekend of Water Polo games include a 19–5 win to our U14 team against Stuartholme; and a 9–3 win for our Opens team against BGGS Development.

Water Polo is now the only sport actively in competition for the remainder of the 2018 school year; so well done to all girls involved in this sport – particularly those, who have just put their hand up to attend the Queensland State Championships in December.

We are sending a U14 and a U16 team to Water Polo State Championships. We wish all girls involved a wonderful experience. We will note the skill development on our return, for the end of the 2018–19 season.

2019 Opens Touch Trials

Coordinator: Ms Anne-Marie George

The final 2019 Opens Touch Trials, for girls currently in Years 9–11, takes place on Harts Road Oval from 3:30pm–5:00pm on Friday 16 November. This is the last opportunity for current students to be considered for this Opens Touch team.

While there may be some movement at the start of 2019, your best chance of making this team is to attend on Friday. Thank you, to the girls who have been in attendance already.

If there are girls who can’t or haven’t been able to attend these Friday afternoon trials and wish to be considered for the Opens team, they must speak to the Girls Sport Coordinators as soon as possible.

Swimming Fitness

Coordinator: Mr Peter Dawson

In Term 4, swimming sessions are held at the 50m pool for any girl in Years 6–12, playing Water Polo or wishing to do pre-season QGSSSA swim training. These sessions are held on:

  • Monday afternoons, 50m pool – 3:30pm–4:15pm; and
  • Thursday afternoons, 50m pool – 3:30pm–4:15pm.

There is no need for girls to sign on for these sessions, simply turn up to the pool for the sessions you can attend.

Have a great week in sport.

Kelli Rodman, Kerry Schreiber and Susannah Treschman
