I love a good impersonation. I don’t need too much convincing to start talking in a fake German accent, saying things like: “Quickly now! Come orrn! Ged to de chopper! Let’s get owt of he-yar! It’s going to blooowww!”, all in a low, urgent monotone. Any guesses? It’s Arnold Schwarzenegger! But that was totally obvious, I know. Likewise, a favourite advertising campaign is the AFL’s ‘Mini-Legends’ Auskick promo, which features children decked out like their heroes and impersonating them playing footy. The sight of a little kid with a bald head like Gary Ablett, another with a mohawk and sleeve tattoos like Dustin...
Around the School
Last Friday, Students 4 Students were pleased to welcome Old Scholar, Alex Woods, who is a clinical psychologist from Headspace in Taringa. After fundraising for the organisation last term, Students 4 Students, which seeks to work for better student equality and mental health, presented Alex with a cheque for $2,500. She informed us that the money donated will be used to improve the services provided by the Taringa Headspace office. We are so grateful for all of the amazing staff and students who helped us to raise this much needed donation.
On the weekend of 11 and 12 August, more than 700 students from schools across Queensland converged on the University of Queensland (UQ) for the annual RoboCup Junior State competition. Congratulations to the St Peters students who competed in Soccer, On Stage and Rescue. These students represented the College proudly through their participation in the competition, the way they dealt with challenges, and their interaction with other teams. A special mention to Team Buggy Blitzers (Sophie, Yulia, and Isabella) who showed amazing persistence and positivity after having to rebuild...

Primary Years
Congratulations to all students who have received an award on assembly throughout the past week. Well done! Thank you to everyone who organised and supported our annual P-3 Interhouse Athletics Carnival last Thursday. Special thanks to Mr Dawson, Mr Glass and Mrs Hannah for their preparation of the students in regular classes, as well as organising the events and structure of the day. Leichhardt was victorious, and all students wore their house colours with pride. The wonderful support from our staff, parents and Upper Primary Sport Captains ensured students had a memorable day...
Junior High
This week in Junior High, our focus is on the Character Strength of ‘Kindness’. Kindness is generally understood as the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate, and is often associated with those who display empathy, concern, and care towards others. At our Junior High Assembly, students were encouraged to think about how they can practise kindness every day – in either their words or actions. One way to be kind is to be aware of people in need and to notice when others might need a helping hand. A kind word or a smile; opening a door; stepping aside for others on a footpath or escalator; or...
Senior School
Last Friday week, the Senior School hosted ‘Red Frogs’, who presented a timely message to all students in Years 10-12 about safety, especially in party situations. The Red Frogs are a group of approximately 1,400 volunteers who are usually associated with supporting students at ‘Schoolies’ celebrations however, their message is a universal one for all young adults. During their presentation, they addressed topical subjects in and engaging and meaningful way, including the use of alcohol and drugs, with a message that ‘it’s never ok to experiment’. They also discussed safe ‘party’ behaviour, and touched on subjects...
Last Friday, Year 11 Fashion students visited Government House to see an exhibition of wedding dresses and paraphernalia collected by Marion Boyce, costume designer for the Miss Fishers Murder Mysteries series (ABC). In her 20's, Marion was given a wedding dress, which she famously wore around the QUT campus throughout her degree. This led to a large collection wedding dresses and many other things used by brides on their wedding days. In particular, I enjoyed the stories that accompanied the dresses and the humorous behind-the-scenes stories told by staff. We were even lucky enough to meet Marion, who happened...

VAPAr Drama students are counting down the days until they perform, ‘The Crane Wife’, on Saturday 18 August. The cast have worked hard to recreate the fable using the imagery of Japanese culture and cranes as their inspiration for ensemble work. Mr Nick Trethan has worked tirelessly on the physical theatre pieces and honing of students’ ideas. Students have been thrilled to help direct and write dialogue to suit...
Girls Sport
Well done to all of the girls who competed at the 2018 QGSSSA Rhythmic Gymnastics competition last Friday. All girls represented the College with pride, and their 13 weeks of consistent training perfecting their challenging routines was on display. Congratulations to the Year 8 Girls who placed second overall, and a special mention to Lottie J, Chloe G, Mya E, and Jessica T, who won their division. That is a great result for these girls, especially as St Peters hasn’t won a pennant in Rhythmic Gymnastics for a number of years. A special mention to our Year 12 girls, who have been heavily involved in Rhythmic Gymnastics over...
Boys Sport
Last weekend, Round 3 fixtures were played against Marist College. We enjoyed a relatively good weekend of Basketball, with three of our A teams earning themselves victories. Well done to our 10A, 9A and 5A teams on their wins and well done also to our 4th V on another draw. We also witnessed many close defeats, with our 10B and 9B teams go down by the narrowest of margins on the buzzer, and our 2nd V, 7A and 7C teams only losing by a only handful of points. It is always disappointing to lose, but it is important not to go down without a fight, and this philosophy was certainly evident on Saturday. A special...
