Ministry
When entering the St Peters Chapel at Indooroopilly, one of the first things people tend to notice are the bright and colourful flags lining the walls. These flags provide a strong visual representation of the 60+ countries in which our students and their parents were born. At Springfield, languages are a feature of the community, where at least 24 languages other than English are spoken at home. On Tuesday, over 2,000 students, parents and staff from the Indooroopilly community lined the Chapel forecourt for the Parade of Nations. Students, some dressed...
Housekeeping

Around the School
On Sunday 4 March, more than 13,000 people ran the 27th annual RACQ International Women’s Day Fun Run at Brisbane South Bank to honour, celebrate and support women who have fought and or are fighting breast cancer. As the highest fundraising school team, raising $17,000 for practical support items and research towards the cause and treatment of breast cancer, St Peters was the recipient of a voucher for a ‘Women in Defence Leadership Day’, whereby guest speakers from the Women in Defence team visited St Peters to coordinate leadership activities...
On Friday evening, families converged on St Peters Performing Arts Centre for the Finale of St Peters You've Got Talent (SPYGT) 2018! We also congratulate first runner-up, Rueben (Year 9), who delivered a wildly entertaining Napoleon Dynamite-inspired dance routine; and second runner-up, Matilda (Year 8), who performed a piano-and-vocal piece. Primary Years
Last Thursday, selected St Peters students competed in the Northern Eagles District Athletics Trials. For many of our Primary students, it was their first time participating in such a day and, although many were nervous, they were a credit to the College. Many of the events went right to the wire, making it a very exciting day indeed. The team supported each other, which was wonderful to see, and showed what great ambassadors our students are. What an amazing Multicultural Week we have had so far! It has been filled with special activities and...
Junior High
This week in Junior High, our Character Strength focus has been the ‘Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence’. When I took the VIA Character Strength Survey earlier this year, I was surprised (and somewhat disappointed) to see that this attribute ranked quite low on the list of my identified character strengths. On reflection, I feel that this might be the case for many of us because our day-to-day lives are so busy that we don’t have the time - or perhaps more importantly - don’t take the time to slow down and notice or appreciate the beauty that surrounds us...
Senior School
Term 3 is an exciting time at the Langer Library, with two major events taking place. For our Junior High Literature Event, three authors and artists will visit. Carole Wilkinson, author of the set Year 7 novel ‘Dragonkeeper’, will visit Year 7 students. A few days later, author - Simon Higgins, and graphic artist and animator - Jenny Wang, will present to Years 8 and 9 students. We have also started celebrating Australian Children’s Book Week, which will continue throughout the month of August. Our Book Week display has been constructed. Our design is based...

Years 10 and 11 students have already received the meningococcal vaccine through the School Immunisation Program but if there are other members in your family who fall into this age bracket who are not yet vaccinated, contact your GP or the Brisbane City Council Immunisation Clinic via phone 3403 8888 or email. Future Year 10 students will continue to be vaccinated through the School Immunisation Program.
Boarding
This week, boarding students proudly participated in Multicultural Week celebrations. At Tuesday's annual Parade of Nations, Aditee S represented India, and our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander boys performed a cultural dance.
The Arts
Students are working very well as a physical theatre ensemble and have six rehearsals to go until their performance at the VAPar Exhibition on 18 August. They have been examining the plot of a Japanese fable, ‘The Crane Wife’, with Mr Nick Trethan – Drama Teacher, and exploring the themes and significant moments in the script. So far, there are some moments of positively lyrical, poignant ensemble movements to illustrate cranes; and the fisherman’s tenderness at finding a wounded crane and the crane wife. It will..
Students are well into preparations for the upcoming VAPar Exhibition on 18 August, which celebrates the visual and performing arts! Tickets are now available for purchase online or you can buy tickets at the door on the night. This week, guest artist, Marian Drew, introduced students to a specialised light painting technique using the digital camera. Students were captivated by the process and some amazing images with a Baroque flavour were produced!
Music
Last Thursday afternoon, Symphonic Winds and Senior Stage Band performed in the Queen Street Mall for the Brisbane City Bands Festival. This annual competition is a great opportunity for students to represent their College and perform to an appreciative audience. Congratulations to Symphonic Winds, who won the Senior Concert Band section. Senior Stage Band followed with an exceptional performance, featuring solos from Nick M, Angus C, Lachlan A, Claire G and vocalists, Ben S and Alexandra J. Thank you to students and staff who participated for a great...
Last Friday afternoon, St Peters Trumpet students were treated to a Masterclass with Ms Sarah Butler. Ms Butler is the Principal trumpet player with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Senior Lecturer in Trumpet and Co-Head of Brass at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. The afternoon was well attended by Music Extension Curriculum students and St Peters trumpeters. Ms Butler is a highly skilled and talented musician and had a great time with Claire G, Angus C, Isaac W, Alex G and Sam G, who all performed well under her direction. Ms Butler has...

Boys Sport
Last weekend, the first round of AIC fixtures was played against St Laurence’s College. St Peters Basketball players displayed a competitive opening performance against the experienced St Laurence’s teams. Well done to all players, and the 7B, 8B and 9A teams, who all deserve special mentions for their spirited performances in some particularly challenging matches. For many of our boys, the AIC season is the only time we touch a basketball, so it is important that our players get as much practice done at home to develop our dribbling, shooting and...
