From the Boys Sport Coordinator

AIC Rugby, Football and Chess

AIC Term 2 sports fixtures came to a close last weekend as our Chess, Football and Rugby players challenged St Edmund’s College with great pride and determination.

In Chess, our Intermediate A team secured the AIC Premiership for the third year in a row! The 1st IV team secured second place, defeated for first place by a single point. These young men have been acknowledged in front of their peers at assembly. Well done gentlemen! The St Peters Sport community is proud of you. We congratulate all Chess teams, coaches and coordinator, Mr Bygraves, for their hard work in the 2018 season.

Footballers also finished the season with strong performances. Our boys came away with 10 wins, two draws and eight losses, with three of those losses being by only one or two goals. Congratulations to our 4th XI, 10A, 9A, 9B, 8B, 8C, 7A, 6A, 5A and 5B teams on their wins. Our First XI team fought hard against an excellent SEC outfit but finished their season with a loss, despite a number of scoring opportunities. Finally, congratulations to our two AIC premiership winning teams – kudos to the 9A and 8B teams for their stellar season. The 9A team secured their second premiership in a row, managing to claim the title with a 5-0 win, whilst the 8B team finished with a 4-0 win to sew up the premiership. Well done to St Peters teams across all age groups – we look forward to seeing you play again next year.

Our 8A and 8B teams enjoyed stellar performances, with hard fought matches against highly skilled and strong sides. The AIC Football Awards Presentation for Years 5 and 6 was held this week on Wednesday afternoon and the Years 7-12 Presentation Dinner will be held this Saturday night. I look forward to seeing everyone in attendance as we showcase the year that was and celebrate our boys’ performances for the season.

A special thank you to the Rugby and Football Parent Support Groups for their help arranging these events and for their outstanding commitment to their respective programs. We look forward to building both programs with your continued support in 2019.

Finally, we acknowledge the tireless efforts of our coordinators, whose hard work is appreciated by students and coaches alike: Mr Nathan Edwards (Football) and Mr Shaun Nodwell, and Mr Andrew Carey and Mr Russel Haug (Rugby).

Tennis Pre-Season

Coordinator: Mr Stuart Delaney

Tennis is now an in-season sport, with trials already underway for all age groups. Once team selections are complete, the in-season training schedule for Term 3 will be posted to the St Peter App.

In-season training will commence for all teams in the first week of Term 3. An end-of-week trial for selected students (based on training performance) is scheduled against St Edmunds in the first week of Term 3. Selected students sill be notified by coaches. Our first AIC Tennis trial is scheduled for Saturday 28 July versus St Laurence’s College.

Basketball Pre-Season

Coordinator: Mr Glenn Scott

Basketball is now an in-season sport. With pre-season training starting three weeks ago, our numbers in attendance have been solid. With such a short turn around after the holidays, I expect to see these numbers grow as more boys fit these trainings into their weekly schedules.

Final teams will be selected during the holidays at our Basketball Clinics, as well as in the first week of Term 3 before trials against St Edmunds take place on Friday 20 July. Training times and venues will remain the same for Term 3. These can be found on the St Peters App.

Basketball Clinic sessions will take place during the first days of holidays, from Thursday 21 to Saturday 23 June. All interested basketballers should attend. For full details, download the flyer.

Cross Country

Coordinator: Mr Seth Antcliff

With the AIC Rugby and Football seasons now over, we look forward to increasing participation in the St Peters Cross Country program. It is an expectation that boys now commit themselves to actively attending the training sessions on offer, particularly the sessions on a Wednesday morning or afternoon, as these are speed endurance sessions designed to help our athletes run faster for longer. Our Friday morning Run Club is also a time when boys can run together without the pressure of performing hard and maxing out.

We will offer an intensive holiday Cross Country Clinic, named the Two Day Challenge, as well as extra running sessions and time trials. Refer to the St Peters App for details or download the flyer.
