What's On
Head of College
As part of the regular lunches I have with Year 12 students, I always ask them what they hope to do when they graduate. Not unsurprisingly, this elicits an entire spectrum of responses, from ‘no idea’ through to very singularly-minded, specific courses of study that will lead to a certain career or job. It’s interesting to hear about the fields of study and work our young people are interested in. Given the rate of change in society...
Ministry
Old Scholar, Noel Pearson, is a leading voice for indigenous Australians. From the Hope Vale Mission in North Queensland, he boarded at St Peters Indooroopilly in the 1980s. Last Saturday, he addressed the Lutheran Church’s Synod at Bundaberg and said some fascinating things. One reflection was that he is so grateful for his upbringing at the Hope Vale Mission. He recognises he received protection and provision from the mission...

Primary Years
One of the wonderful things about working in a Prep to Year 12 environment is the opportunity to see students grow and develop into fine young men and women over time. This has been highlighted in the last few weeks. Our Cross Grade Captains have coordinated a range of activities for buddy play sessions with Lower Primary students to model social skills. These lunchtime buddy play sessions provide great opportunities, not just for our young students, but also for those...

We are supporting a number of students whose sleep is being significantly reduced by the accessing of technology throughout the night. In some cases, students are receiving messages into the early hours of the morning. We know that disruption to sleep has a negative impact in all areas of a students’ life: their mood and mental health, physical and emotional development and their ability to learn. I strongly urge parents to take steps to ensure that devices are not...

Over the last week, Sothika, who is part of the College’s Work and Welcome program for refugees, has been working in Textiles and Hospitality. Sothika is studying to be a teacher aide. Each year, this event attracts thousands of people to South Bank with its large, glowing interpretations of iconic animals, locations and characters. Some of the lanterns took on the shapes of koalas, elephants and jelly fish!
