From the Head of Primary Years

Under 8s Week

Under 8s Week is from 19 to 29 May. It is an event that has been proudly running in Queensland for over sixty years and is coordinated by Early Childhood Australia (ECA) Queensland Branch. This year, St Peters joined in the celebration with a variety of activities involving our youngest students.

Year 2 students participated in a meditation and yoga session; Year 1 students joined in tribal drumming, and Prep students participated in a rainforest theatre presentation.

Lunchtimes were filled with coding lessons and origami instruction delivered by enthusiastic staff. Our students were also witness to several musical performances, including St Peters very own Drum Line and Saints and Singers. School bells reflected the festival feeling, changing to the popular tune from the Lego movie, ‘Everything is Awesome.’

This morning, a range of activities took place on Stolz Oval. Parents and students joined forces to complete activities such as bubble blowing, blind painting and the famous Music Wall. Visits from the local police and fire services proved to be a huge hit as well as tug-of war against Mr Glass!

The morning culminated with a sausage sizzle delivered by the dedicated Lower Primary Parent Support Group.

Thank you to those who assisted in making the week such a success - filled with smiles, laughter and a genuine sense of wonder.

Parent Chat information session

All Prep to Year 4 parents are welcome to join us for the next Parent Chat Information Session on Monday 4 June from 6.00 – 7.30pm at the Performing Arts Centre - Theatrette.

The session will be hosted by ‘Let’s Chat Education’, which offers opportunities for schools and parents to chat about sexuality and relationships. They will host an interactive lesson for each of our Years 3 and 4 students in Term 3, discussing public and private body parts and encouraging children to gain healthy body awareness. These sessions will form part of the protective behaviours curriculum that we offer all students.

The parent session serves as a prelude to these lessons, not only for our parents of Years 3 and 4 students, but for all Lower Primary Parents.

The 1.5hour session will cover

  • What is sexuality and relationships education;
  • The landscape and rationale behind sexuality education;
  • Childhood development;
  • Content and resources covered during the classroom programs;
  • Helpful resources and support for parents and carers;
  • Tips on chatting; and
  • Question and answer time.

 Please RSVP prior by Monday 28 May via the Let’s Chat link. We look forward to seeing many of you there.
