From the Girls Sport Coordinators

Welcome back to the Year 9 girls returning from Ironbark. We hope you enjoyed the experience and don’t find settling back in to life at school too difficult! A reminder to all returning girls: there are two rounds left of our Autumn Fixtures and our Basketball, Football and Touch teams look forward to having you back.

Our Winter Fixtures sports are also underway with pre-season training and all girls who want to be involved in Hockey, Netball, Tennis or Volleyball are encouraged to check the St Peters App for the training schedules and turn up to the next session for their age group. A reminder that in-season sport takes priority over pre-season training sessions.

Coordinator: Mr Peter Hicks

Well done to all of rowers who competed at the Indoor Ergo Championships on Tuesday night.

We are still looking for one more senior rower. Any girl in Year 11 or 12 who is interested should see Mr Hicks at Sports House. Rowing is a wonderful - we encourage girls to try it and fall in love with being on the water!

Rhythmic Gymnastics

Coordinator: Ms Samantha Cummings

Well done to all of our rhythmic gymnasts who attended training last Saturday. It was good to see so many dedicated teams there practicing their routines. Saturdays provide a good opportunity for girls to practice as a team for an extended period with the specialist coaching of our Head Coach, Phoebe Anderson. These sessions are really important, as girls only get one training session during the week and the competition will be fast upon us in Term 3.

The next Saturday training session coincides with Open Day on 2 June and it will be a great opportunity to showcase Rhythmic Gymnastics as a sport. Training will be held from 10.00am – 4.00pm with teams being allocated a smaller training slot around their other commitments. For this day, we ask that all girls wear the St Peters HPE t-shirt and a pair of comfortable, black leggings so that we are matching.

Finally, our teams are still missing one Year 10 or 11 dancer. Please see staff at Sports House or Ms Cummings if you are interested.

Autumn Sports - Basketball, Football, Touch

Basketball Coordinator: Mr Glenn Scott

Football Coordinator: Mr Ben Innes

Touch Coordinator: Mr Mark Manson

Our second last round of games are this Friday at home venues versus St Aidan’s. Please note that a few touch teams are playing at the St Aidan’s grounds and a bus will be provided to and from this venue. All draws are on the St Peters App.

Next Monday 28 May, our Football teams will play their rained out games versus St Margaret’s at home venues. All games will be played at 4.00pm with the Opens playing on Harts Road Oval, the Intermediates at Taringa Rovers and the Junior team playing at Stolz Oval.

As the season draws to a close, coaches will finalise their team lists, ensuring girls have fulfilled 70% of their training and game day commitments. They will also decide on their award winners for the overall season. Details of the Basketball, Football and Touch break-up celebrations, to be held in Week 8, will be published in next week’s Rock.

Winter Fixtures

Trial games for most of our Junior Winter Fixture teams will take place on Saturday 9 June versus St Aidan’s and all teams will have a trial versus Somerville House on Saturday 16 June. Games for Hockey, Netball, Tennis and Volleyball take place every Saturday in Term 3, starting in Week 1. Girls must make their own way to and from games each Saturday morning.

Coordinator: Mrs Anne-Marie Champion

Training is now underway for all Netball teams. During training this week and next week, most age group teams will be announced. Please be aware that, due to the number of girls who want] to play netball, some age groups will take longer to select teams than others. We congratulate all girls placed in teams. While we can only have a maximum of three teams in an age group, we will do our best to include all girls in a development and training program in 2018.

With regards to team selection for all teams, please be aware that, while we organise players in to A, B and C teams in each age group, these are not set in stone. A continued dedication to training and an ongoing display of being able to respond to coaches’ feedback are needed to secure your place if you are initially placed in one of the top teams. Likewise, if you are in a B or C team and desire to be in the team higher, a strong commitment to training and a growth mindset to improve your skills can see you placed in an A team towards the start of the 2018 season.

After a very intensive trialling period, we thank and welcome our new Opens Coach and Coaching Mentor, Mrs Tracey Bruce. Tracey is an Old Scholar and our netball trophy bears her name due to the impact she has had on the St Peters Netball program over the years. We thank our 2018 Netball Coordinator, Mrs Anne-Marie Champion, for her work in getting 16 netball teams off the ground for the season.

Finally, in 2018 we have a very exciting opportunity for our St Peters netballers. From Monday 25 - Wednesday 27 June we will host a Queensland Firebirds Netball Clinic exclusively for St Peters netballers.

This unique St Peters Netball Clinic aims to provide all participants with:

  • An opportunity to learn and develop their netball skills under the guidance of elite and professional players;
  • A greater understanding of how being a part of a supportive community/network can help to build your confidence and sense of self-worth;
  • An insight into their own strengths and what they contribute in a group scenario;
  • An appreciation for their team-mates strengths and those around them; and
  • Lots of fun and the formation of some great memories with school mates!

Please go to for more information.

Coordinator: Mr Cameron Glass

Training for Hockey is now underway on Tuesday afternoons from 3.30 - 5.00pm at the Mayer Oval Cricket Nets and Thursday afternoons from 4.00 - 5.30pm at UQ Field 4 (next to the UQ pool). A bus will be provided every Thursday and we ask parents to collect girls from UQ directly on a Thursday at the conclusion of training. The Thursday session is very important as it the only practice that all girls can make on our playing fields. We ask girls to do their best to attend these sessions.

Coordinator: Mr Joshua Singh

Trials for all of our Volleyball teams continue this week during normal training times. All sessions will take place in the Gym (or Outside Gym Courts in pre-season). Please see the St Peters App for the full Term 2 Volleyball training schedule.

Sunday Night Spikes has also started. This is an informal Sunday afternoon/evening for anyone wanting to play some extra volleyball. There will be a Junior session (Years 7-9) from 4.30-5.30pm and a Senior session from 5.30-7.00pm at the St Peters Gym. You don’t need to sign up - just turn up ready to play volleyball. We hope you enjoy it!

At the end of Term 2, we will also host a Volleyball Clinic at St Peters. Please keep the mornings of Monday 25 - Wednesday 27 June free. There will be a clinic for Years 7 - 8 players from 9.00 - 11.30am and for Years 9 - 12 players from 10.00am - 12.30pm.

Coordinator: Mrs Deborah Wilson

Training for our Tennis teams have started on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

At the moment, numbers in our Junior Tennis teams are low and we may not be able to enter three teams into the competition. If you are interested in playing Tennis in 2018, please make sure you attend trials before it is too late. All details for our 2018 Tennis trials are on the St Peters App.
