From the Girls Sport Coordinators

Weekend Wrap-up

On Friday night, 95 girls attended a swim meet hosted by St Margaret’s and Clayfield College at the Valley Pool. With only 13 more sleeps to go before the QGSSSA Championships on 7 March, it was pleasing to see many swimmers at the meets and training sessions.

On Saturday, our Open and Senior Softball girls ventured to Downey Park for Round 2 games. Out of the eight games played, St Peters enjoyed five wins and one draw. Girls played with enthusiasm and spirit, and it is a pleasure to watch them develop their softball skills.

As our Water Polo girls head into the back end of their season, all teams are playing for final positions.

We remind parents to be mindful about collecting your daughter from trainings and games on time.

Queensland School State Triathlon Championships

Congratulations to Brianna F on her second placing at the Queensland School State Triathlon Championships last week. Brianna has been selected for the Queensland School Triathlon team. Well done and we wish you every success at the next level of competition.

QGSSSA Swimming

Coordinator: Mr Peter Dawson

We are in the final two weeks of the 2018 QGSSSA Swimming season and have two compulsory Friday night meets left before our final team will be named.

This Friday 23 February, a compulsory time trial and relay practice session will take place after school from 3.30 – 5.00pm at the 50m pool. The provisional QGSSSA team will be selected after this Friday’s meet so this is one of the final chances to gain selection. Some provisional relay teams will also be named and girls will start practicing their relay changeovers ahead of the QGSSSA Championships.

Next Friday 2 March, St Peters will host our final QGSSSA warm-up meet for the 2018 swim season at the 50m pool. Again, this is again a compulsory meet with final team selection taking place at this time.

All girls selected in our 2018 QGSSSA Swimming team will receive a letter next week providing all details about the championships on Wednesday 7 March.

QGSSSA Softball

Coordinator: Girls Sport

Well done to all girls who played on the weekend. Our teams are sitting in the following positions on the ladder:

  • Opens: fourth position;
  • Senior A: joint first position;
  • Senior B1: joint first position; and
  • Senior B2: seventh position.

At the halfway mark of the season, please remember our 75% rule - you must attend a minimum 75% of the season training session and games to have softball counted as a sport. Please remain committed for the final two weeks of the season – that’s four training sessions and two Saturday games.

We look forward to seeing all girls at Downey Park this Saturday.

Autumn Sports - Basketball, Football, Touch

As we approach the start of our 2018 Autumn Fixtures season, girls need to ensure they have the correct playing uniforms. All uniforms (except Open uniforms) can be purchased from Shop 45.

Open Team Training Shirts

Well done to our Open Basketball, Football and Touch teams for 2018. Girls should have now collected their Open training shirt (refer to the email sent last Thursday). The Sport Department has bought these shirts to try and lift the profile of our Open & 1st teams. It is an expectation that you wear this shirt at every Open training session, however these should not be worn during school times as PE shirts.

Basketball

Coordinator: Mr Glenn Scott

Senior B Basketball:

Based on the numbers attending training, we will only enter one Senior B Basketball team in 2018. This will involve 10 girls and others will miss out. If you are planning to play Senior B basketball in 2018 it is imperative that you attend training this Thursday (and for the remainder of the season) or you may miss out on playing this year.

Our first trial games for the 2018 season will take place on Monday 5 March versus Somerville House. Games will be played at both St Peters and Somerville House. Buses will be provided for the away venue. The draw will be available on the St Peters App early next week.

Football

Coordinator: Mr Ben Innes

Our first trial games for the 2018 season will take place on Monday 5 March versus Somerville House. Games will be played at St Peters and UQ on Field 9. Buses will be provided to and from the venue. The draw will be available via the St Peters App early next week.

The Open Football team will also have a trial game on Friday 9 March from 4.00 - 5.00pm on Harts Road Oval at versus BGGS.

Touch

Coordinator: Mr Mark Manson

Next Monday 26 February, our first trial games for the 2018 season will take place versus BGGS. These games will be played on Mayer Oval in two rounds, from roughly 4.00pm and 4.45pm. The draw for these games is on the St Peters App. Girls will finish these games later than a normal Monday afternoon training session and it is expected that all girls stay for the second round of games to provide support to our Opens and as part of their training development and understanding of the game.

A second round of trial games will be played on Monday 5 March versus Somerville House at Fairfield. Buses will be provided to and from the venue. The draw for these games will be on the St Peters App early next week.

All girls in our Touch teams need to organise their touch singlets next week (Week 6). All singlets must be numbered and it is important that girls on a team wear different numbers. All coaches have worked with their teams to allocate numbers, trying hard to accommodate singlet numbers girls already have. Any girl requiring a new singlet number is asked to bring their singlet (remember to write your name on tit) to Shop 45 for numbering on Tuesday 27 February.

Cross Country

Coordinator: Mrs Kerry Schreiber

Our first QGSSSA Cross Country meet for 2018 is quickly approaching. It is on Monday 12 March at the University of Queensland (UQ). Buses will be provided for girls to and from UQ straight after school. Please put this date in your calendar now. Girls will be sent a sign-on email closer to this meet and any girl wishing to be considered for the 2018 team is encouraged to attend.

Over the coming days, look out for a full 2018 Cross Country season calendar on the St Peters App.

Run Club

Join the St Peters running community by coming along to Run Club. Run Club is a fun way to improve fitness for all sports, meet new people and start training for our QGSSSA Cross Country season. Run Club is on every Friday. Runners should meet at the St Peters bus stop at 6.15am.

Have a great week in sport.

Kelli Rodman, Kerry Schreiber and Susannah Treschman, Girls Sport Coordinators
