From the Boys Sport Coordinator

Over the weekend, our boys hosted Marist Brothers Ashgrove for Round 3 of the AIC competition. Friday night’s rain produced pleasant temperatures, however it delayed our First XI match, which was postponed to allow Mayer Oval to dry out. Due to the late start, our First XI Cricket boys played a shortened match of 25 overs each way, and were eventually chased down by our opponents. At the end of the day, our 10A team was the only one to secure a victory but we were competitive in many of our losses. A special mention to Eshan N and Dan D of the 10A team, who put on 90 runs to steer their team home in a memorable run chase.

In the Volleyball arena, our day started slowly and it looked like it would be a near clean sweep for Ashgrove. As the day progressed, we managed to win some of the later aggregate matches and, at the conclusion of the day, we found ourselves tied on aggregate points thanks to four aggregate wins in the final two games of the day. Many games went down to the wire, but perhaps the biggest nail-biter of the day was played by our First VI team. For this term’s Focus Round, our supporters came out in droves and were able to help our premier team snatch victory in a closely fought 5 set game. After two hours of play from two quality teams, our boys collected the victory and over the whole match by scoring two more points than our opposition. Well done to the following teams on their victories: 1st VI, 2nd VI, 4th VI, 11B, 10B, 9A, 9B, 8B, and 8C.

AIC Swimming

Coordinator: Mr Peter Dawson

Over the next two Fridays, our swim team will attend our final whole team sessions before the AIC championships. It is expected that all Years 5 - 12 boy attend these sessions to finalise team selections. The time trials and relay change practice will be critical to the success of our team at the upcoming championships, so full attendance is expected. This Friday’s session will run from 3:30 – 5:00pm at the 50m pool.

Queensland Triathlon Championships

Last week, Thomas F competed at the Queensland School State Triathlon Championships at Hervey Bay. Thomas performed very well with his relay team, winning gold as well achieving an individual second placing. As a result of his performances, Thomas has earned a place on the Queensland Schools Triathlon team, which will compete at the national championships later in the year. Well done Thomas!

Rookies to Reds (R2R) Rugby

Our R2R program begins this Friday and is open to any Years 4 - 6 boy wishing to gain an introduction to Rugby and do some training with Queensland Rugby Union coaching staff. This Friday, our introduction/meet and greet session will take place. The QRU coaches will begin their training with our boys starting in the second week (Friday 2 March). Any boy wishing to be part of the program need only attend the sessions each week and wear clothes suitable for Rugby training (not HPE clothes). More details will be emailed to parents shortly.

Cross Country

We are now within 10 weeks of the AIC Cross Country Championships so it is imperative that our boys attend trainings. Refer to the St Peters app for training details.

Good luck to all of our young men for this weekend’s Volleyball and Cricket matches against Iona. I look forward to seeing our positive results continue for Round 4.
