On Friday 1 August, the St Peters community will once again don denim for Jeans 4 Genes Day!
Students from Prep to Year 12 are invited to wear their jeans (no rips, please!) with any St Peters shirt, whether it’s a Sport, Music or co-curricular shirt. Lower and Upper Primary students should wear their HPE or House t-shirts. Remember to bring a gold coin donation to support vital medical research.
Why do we support this day? 1 in 20 children faces a birth defect or genetic condition, many hearing life-changing words like 'incurable' or 'lifelong'. But thanks to the Children’s Medical Research Institute, there’s hope. They’re developing gene therapies to cure what was once untreatable, and our donations help make this possible.
St Peters has proudly supported Jeans 4 Genes Day for over 30 years, raising over $45,000 to date. Let’s keep that generosity going!
What’s on?
Let’s make it a denim day to remember!

Last Tuesday, Langer Library staff accompanied two Year 9 teams to the CBCA Reader's Cup competition at St Augustine's College, Ipswich. The annual Readers’ Cup event challenges students to read widely, work collaboratively and continue developing a love of reading. This year, the team read a range of texts that included contemporary, dystopian, mystery, and gothic fiction (see covers below). Teams prepared during weekly meetings, discussing the novels and testing one another on the characters, settings, themes and events of each book. I am delighted to share that St Peters Team 1 placed second, while St Peters Team 2 placed fourth. Well done students! Congratulations on the way in which you represented the College in such a positive manner.
Langer Library is open from 7:45am – 8:30pm on Mondays to Thursdays and 7:45am – 4:00pm on Fridays.
We have recently welcomed three new staff members to the Langer Library team. Mrs Leith Charlton (Mondays and Fridays) and Mrs Belinda Byrne (Tuesdays to Thursdays) are our new Teacher Librarians, while Lottie Johnston has joined us in the role of Library Assistant. Please make sure to say hello when you’re next in the library.
Happy reading!

To foster intercultural understanding and respect, all IB Diploma Programme students at St Peters study a second language as part of their course of study. We offer a range of languages, including French B, German B, Chinese B, Japanese B, and Spanish Ab Initio. While Language B subjects are designed for students continuing their language journey from Years 7 to 10, Spanish Ab Initio is suited for students new to the language, offering them a unique opportunity to begin their language learning at a senior level.
In the IB Diploma, all subjects are interconnected through the Core, including Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Extended Essay (EE) and Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS). Last week, as part of their TOK course, our Year 11 students explored the role of language in the acquisition and production of knowledge during a TOK & Languages Workshop. Students participated collaboratively in this workshop from the perspective of both English and the additional language/s they are learning or speak at home. This year, we had the bonus of having the German Exchange students join us to provide their perspective on the relationship between language and knowledge as well.
During the workshop, there was rich discussion surrounding the role language plays in communicating and sharing knowledge. The cultural implications of different languages and their cultural customs and traditions was also a theme that was deeply considered, as culture has a significant impact on the way we experience the world. Some examples of the knowledge questions that were explored include:
Thank you to all our Year 11 IB and German Exchange students who embraced this workshop with enthusiasm. Their responses demonstrated not only deep thinking and critical reflection, but also a growing awareness of the value of culture, language, and community in shaping knowledge and understanding. A big thank you also goes to our TOK teachers, Ms Magar, Mr Meredith and Dr Atherton, and the IB Language teachers, Madame Cassard, Mr Ganderton, Ms Nalevanko, Ms Zhu and Ms Xue, who gave up their time to participate and share their perspectives in discussions. This workshop is an example of St Peters’ Plus Ultra in action and a wonderful celebration of the global perspectives students in the IBDP get to explore.

IBDP Core Coordinator
Term 3 is all about Book Week in the Primary libraries (Lower Primary Library and Woodrow Library).
Since 1945, The Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has celebrated Book Week in educational institutions, bookstores, and libraries across Australia. The theme for CBCA Book Week 2025 is Book an Adventure. We will be celebrating Children's Book Week in Week 6 (18–22 Aug) with activities in both libraries and a culminating Primary Years (P–6) Book Week Chapel and Book Week Assembly on Friday 22 August.
Book Week Celebration and Fundraising
To celebrate Children's Book Week, the Primary Years will again hold its annual Book Week Celebration and Giving Day, which will take place on Friday 22 August. This year, we will be participating in a special Book Week assembly in the Dron Auditorium in the PAC.
Prep to Year 6 students are encouraged to join staff in creating a homemade costume to come dressed as a favourite book character. The dress-up day is the culmination of a term's worth of exploring quality Australian children's literature, its creators, and nurturing our students as readers. The focus is on showcasing a student's favourite character from a book. We ask students to bring a gold coin donation for our Book Week Fundraising Project, supporting the literacy of young people living in out-of-home care through The Pyjama Foundation.
A simple idea to connect the costume to a book is to create a 'book lanyard' (below) for your child to wear on the day – this quickly identifies their character and allows us as teachers to talk to your child about why they have chosen that character and what they love about the books. We encourage inexpensive, homemade costumes – often, a clever prop is all that is needed.
Book Week at Home
If you would like to explore this year's CBCA Book of the Year shortlisted titles with your children at home, please make use of our Primary Years subscription to Story Box Hub. They have excellent recordings of all the shortlisted titles and several interviews with the creators.

Throughout Term 3, Primary Years students are encouraged to take part in the Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) and the St Peters Reading Challenge!
Reading challenges are a great way to encourage students to develop a lifelong love of reading. Students are encouraged to select a range of fiction and non-fiction books suitable for their reading ability and record the titles of the books. Students have been given a reader record form to tally books read throughout the challenge.
Every student who completes the Premier's Reading Challenge and returns the completed record reader form will receive a certificate of achievement from the Premier. All books count, and book suggestions are available on the PRC website: https://prc.median.com.au/BookList
We thank parents and teachers for supporting St Peters libraries and their activities, particularly in promoting a lifelong love of reading.
Have a wonderful term celebrating books and reading!

The term has begun at a rapid pace, with the Junior High precinct buzzing from dawn until dusk, and it has been great to watch students embrace every opportunity on offer.
Last week, our Year 9 cohort experienced 'The Apology', a hard-hitting theatre piece by Shock Therapy Productions. The performance explored the ripple effect of bullying, prompting thoughtful discussion in subsequent Pastoral Care sessions. Students noted the authenticity of the characters and the real‑world scenarios. Staff will continue to build on these themes in Pastoral Care.
A significant volume of unnamed items has found its way to Junior High administration over the past fortnight. To ensure belongings are quickly reunited with their owners, please:

Head of Junior High
Week 1 of Term 3 saw the entire Year 8 cohort head to the beautiful QCCC Mapleton campsite for four days of fun-filled activities together. The aim of the camp was to foster new friendships among the cohort, build teamwork and leadership skills, develop students’ strengths, and build resilience by stepping out of our comfort zones and trying something new.
Students participated in a range of activities throughout the week, including harness activities such as the giant swing, crate climb, flying fox, and the climbing wall. They also developed their navigational skills through orienteering and canoeing, and improved their accuracy by participating in archery. Additionally, they learned about foods from our natural environment through their Bush Tucker sessions.
During the evenings, we enjoyed listening to the Tribal Link storytelling, which outlined First Nations creation stories and the history of the Kabi Kabi and Jinibara people. We also enjoyed a delicious traditional meal and spent time around the campfire, toasting marshmallows and savouring lemon myrtle tea. Students also experienced life outside by camping in a tent for an evening, as a stepping stone for their preparation for Ironbark next year.
I would like to say a sincere thank you to all the staff who attended Year 8 camp to ensure this was a fantastic opportunity for our Year 8 cohort to learn, engage, and enjoy time with one another. It was a pleasure spending time with both the staff and students, and enjoying the learning that occurs outside the classroom.
Allie Walsh
Year 8 Coordinator (Acting)
Ahead of Round 1 of Term 3 AIC Sport, we announced our St Peters 1st IV Tennis, 1st V Basketball and our Senior Rugby Team last Wednesday night. It was a combined gathering where we were able to acknowledge and congratulate the selected members of each respective team.
Head of College, Tim Kotzur attended to address and present the players with their playing shirts, alongside Head of Life-Wide Learning, Sarah Delaney. It filled me with great honour to see the young men take pride in their uniform and to be presented with their First jerseys.
We encourage all students and parents to support our Tennis, Basketball, and Rugby League players throughout their respective sporting seasons. A large part of our St Peters sporting program is also community engagement. Sport at St Peters is a great environment to connect and socialise with other students and parents.

Thoma B (Year 7) toured Austria in late July, playing in three major junior tennis tournaments. Competing in both singles and doubles, he represented Australia alongside five others. Thoma reached the boys' doubles finals at JUFA and the Austrian Youth Open, facing top international talent across the 12U and 14U categories, from the USA, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and Great Britain. This is a phenomenal achievement, and we look forward to Thoma participating for the First IV Tennis team this term.
With the first Track & Field meet for boys fast approaching on 28 August, it is essential that boys attend their nominated sessions consistently. Athletes should prioritise Tuesday afternoon sessions at UQ.

Round 1 of the AIC Basketball season began with an exciting clash against St Patrick’s College. It was a strong and promising start for St Peters, particularly for our junior teams, who showcased great spirit and skill across the board. After a focused pre-season filled with commitment and hard work, it was rewarding to see that effort translate into performance on the court.
Standout Performances:
Congratulations to all players and coaches for representing the College with pride. We look forward to building on this momentum in Round 2!
Round 1 of AIC Rugby League kicked off with our Senior boys playing in the 2nd XIII, starting with a win, while several teams played competitive matches.
Our Rugby League focus round is just around the corner, with our first home game vs Iona College on Saturday 9 August for Round 3.
The 2025 Queensland Secondary Schools Team Tennis (QSSTT) Opens State Finals were held recently at the UQ Tennis Centre. Over the course of two days of competition, ten boys and five girls from various regions competed, demonstrating exceptional skill and teamwork. St Peters finished a credible 5th against talented opposition. Michael H (Year 10) was awarded the sportsmanship award for fair play during the tournament. A great start before the AIC Season!

The QGSSSA lead-up meets are a crucial part of our preparation for the Track & Field Championships in Week 10. These meets provide excellent competition practice and play a significant role in our team selection process.
Congratulations to all teams on a successful first two rounds! All results and ladder positions can be found on the QGSSSA website. Please check the St Peters App for fixture times and locations for this week’s home game.
Netball Focus Round – Saturday 2 August
This Saturday is Netball Focus Round! Please join us to cheer on the Opens at 8:30am on Harts Road Courts. I would like to thank the students and P&F group in advance for their support. A reminder that all non-playing spectators must be in full school uniform.
As we continue striving for personal and team excellence in our sporting pursuits, it’s important to remember the value of regular training attendance. Being present at training not only improves team performance but also builds a culture of respect, commitment, and unity.
If a student is unable to attend a session, they must notify the relevant Sports Coordinator in advance. This allows coaches to plan effectively and helps maintain team cohesion.
We understand that balancing school, sport, and other commitments can be challenging. If any student is finding it difficult to manage their schedule, we encourage them to visit Sports House for a chat with our staff. We’re here to help you find practical solutions.
Congratulations to the following students who have been selected to lead their respective sports in 2025:
In Week 1, Head of College, Tim Kotzur joined us to present the Open uniforms to our 2025 QGSSSA Open Hockey, Netball, Tennis, and Volleyball teams and our BSRA Open 1st VIII crew.
It was wonderful to have parents attend the presentation as we celebrated the girls' achievements before the start of the season. During the presentation, Mr Kotzur spoke about the honour of representing St Peters at the highest level and the importance of being role models for our younger students. He also spoke about the significance of our motto ‘Plus Ultra’, encouraging the girls to strive for personal and team excellence in their respective Sports. Please see the Northern Eagles calendar currently available on the St Peters App. Information regarding Term 3 District nominations has been shared via email to all students. Students need to be part of a St Peters 'A Team' standard or play club at a high level to be nominated. A final decision on nominations will be at the discretion of the Sports Department. Further nomination information will be emailed to students at the start of each term. For more information, click HERE
