Recently, the St Peters Lutheran College Aviation Club was delighted to have current Royal Australian Air Force E/A-18G Growler Fighter Pilot, Squadron Leader Jeremy Whalen visit the Careers Centre to offer students a rare glimpse into what it’s like living on the fast side of life.

Previously serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) for 17 years before permanently transferring to Australia, Squadron Leader Whalen shone a light on the highs and lows of his career, providing valuable insight for students considering careers in aviation.

A highlight of this session was the time he dedicated to answering students' questions about aviation, from what it takes to strap into the cockpit of the world's most advanced fighter jets to how to prepare for the demanding pilot selection process.

Throughout this semester, Years 11 and 12 IB students have engaged in a range of experiences both inside and outside the classroom that demonstrate what it truly means to be an IB learner. From inter-school Theory of Knowledge workshops to service learning and the Extended Essay, students have embodied the attributes of balanced, reflective, inquisitive and critical thinkers.

As students prepare for the winter break, we encourage them to continue reflecting on their experiences and to look ahead to the semester to come. For our Year 12 students, this will include preparation for mock and final examinations, while our Year 11 students will begin their first internal assessments and continue their work on the Extended Essay.

As we come to the close of another rewarding term, it is a wonderful opportunity to pause and reflect on the many achievements, experiences and moments of joy that have defined learning and life in the Primary Years.

From the first days of Term 2, our students embraced every opportunity to grow, learn and connect. Despite the challenges posed by wet weather throughout the term, our students approached both the Cross Country season and the Track & Field Carnivals with enthusiasm, resilience and good spirits. While some events required adjustments and creative solutions due to the condition of our ovals, it was inspiring to see students continue striving for personal bests, supporting their peers and proudly representing their Houses. Our Track & Field Carnivals also highlighted what a wonderful group of good sports our parents are, with many taking to the track themselves to showcase their running prowess and add plenty of fun, laughter and community spirit to the day.

Our community gathered once again for the much-loved Mother’s Day Breakfast, a heartwarming event celebrating the invaluable role mothers and mother figures play in the lives of our students. Thank you to all who joined us for this special morning and Chapel service.

Under 8’s Day brought colour, creativity and community spirit to campus as our youngest learners explored hands-on activities and celebrated the wonder of early childhood. This year’s theme, Celebrating Play, inspired children to investigate, experiment and discover through joyful, curiosity-driven experiences.

In the classroom, students have been deeply engaged in rigorous and thought-provoking Units of Inquiry, developing critical thinking skills and making meaningful connections across subject areas. The strength of the Primary Years Programme lies in its ability to foster both curiosity and depth, and this term has been no exception.

Our Year 6 students experienced a highlight of their final Primary Year with the much-anticipated Canberra Tour, exploring our nation’s capital and engaging deeply with their Civics and Citizenship learning. This memorable experience provided rich opportunities for independence, reflection and learning beyond the classroom.

Academic enrichment was also on proud display through our students’ outstanding performance in the Da Vinci Decathlon. Working collaboratively to solve complex problems and think creatively across a range of disciplines, our students demonstrated impressive perseverance, teamwork and intellectual curiosity.

The Arts have continued to flourish this term, with students sharing their talents during a series of inspiring music concerts. Whether performing on stage for the first time or as experienced ensemble members, our students showcased both confidence and skill, supported by our dedicated music staff.

As we look ahead to the holidays, teachers are finalising Semester 1 reports, which will provide a valuable overview of each student’s progress, effort and areas for growth. We are incredibly proud of all that our students have achieved this semester, and we thank our families for their ongoing partnership and support.

Thank you for being part of such a vibrant and caring community. We wish all families a safe, restful and enjoyable break and look forward to welcoming students back for an exciting Semester 2.

On Thursday 11 June, five Year 9 Art students: Tobias, Olivia, Adele, Finn and Lillian, accompanied by Mrs Dobrenov, spent an inspiring day at QAGOMA exploring Olafur Eliasson: Presence.
The students were privileged to participate in a personally curated tour led by artist Ross Manning, who guided them through the exhibition’s key ideas and sensory experiences. This was followed by a hands-on workshop where students experimented with remote-controlled cars adapted into drawing machines and deconstructed car components transformed into sculptural works.

Through this immersive artmaking experience, students explored themes of perception, movement and interaction, and how our bodies and senses connect with the world around us. The workshop encouraged them to consider the relationship between humans, nature and the cosmos in creative and unexpected ways.

Gallery and artist programs like this continue to enrich the Arts curriculum at St Peters, giving students valuable opportunities to engage directly with contemporary practice and professional artists.

This weekend, St Peters Chorale departs for its 2026 Western Australian Tour (20–27 June), where the choir will represent the College through a week of performances, worship and musical collaboration across Perth.

During the tour, Chorale will perform at services at St Mary's Catholic Cathedral, St John's Lutheran Church and St Paul's Anglican Church, and participate in workshops and performances with Aquinas College, Mercedes College, Trinity College and John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School. The tour will also include a public concert at St John's Lutheran Church at 4:00pm on Sunday 21 June. Members of the Perth community are warmly invited to attend and enjoy an afternoon of inspiring choral music.

For more than 40 years, St Peters Chorale has performed Australian choral music and choral masterworks for audiences, schools and congregations throughout Australia and around the world.

Touring is an integral part of the Chorale experience, providing students with opportunities to pursue musical excellence, engage in meaningful cultural exchange and build lasting friendships through the shared language of music. These experiences also allow our students to serve as ambassadors for St Peters, representing the College with distinction wherever they perform.

We are sincerely grateful for the warm welcome and generous support being extended by our host schools, churches and the wider Western Australian community. We look forward to renewing longstanding friendships, forging new connections and sharing the gift of music throughout the tour.

Term 3 Pre-season 

Preparations for Term 3 AIC Sport are now underway. Students should note that they can participate in one AIC team sport and Track & Field simultaneously during Term 3, allowing them to represent the College in both competitions.

• AIC Basketball and Tennis training have now moved to two sessions per week
• AIC Rugby League trials commenced this week
• AIC Track & Field pre-season training is currently underway each Tuesday and Thursday morning on Stolz Oval. All students interested in representing the College are encouraged to attend.

Football

As the AIC Football season concludes, we look back on a successful season across all levels of the program. Our junior and primary teams made huge strides, with strong performances in Years 5 and 6, and achieved an average league standing of 3rd across the Years 7–9 age groups (including two 2nd-place finishes). Year 10 and Opens experienced several highlight moments, with notable performances and goals that helped propel them into next season with confidence. Further strides forward were made by our 1st XI squad, achieving five points on the ladder, an upturn from previous years. Well done to all the teams.

We acknowledge the Year 12 students within the program who played their last Football match for St Peters on Saturday 13 June. Well done for your efforts and continued commitment across your time in the program. Your example is one for your successors to work towards in the coming years.

Looking ahead to the new season, sign-up for Football will open around February 2027, with training commencing around the start of March. Please take encouragement from this season and be poised to come back stronger again next year. As with this year, when we have taken huge strides in coaching and, hence, performance, 2027 offers the opportunity to reframe what Football at St Peters can be. I hope you will be on board again.

Rugby Union

Last Saturday saw the close of the AIC Rugby season. It was great to celebrate the final round of Rugby on a SPOSA round, with a number of Old Scholars in attendance. The First XV were privileged to have Old Scholars Kevin Cheatam (1986), Lee Cranswick (1996), Matt Johnston (1996), Richard McDaniel (1996) and Andrew Corkery (1995) present the team with the jerseys before the game and share some stories of their time at St Peters and playing for St Peters 1st XV Rugby.

Rugby Union had another year of growth, improving on the 2025 position with an increase in player numbers and a significant improvement in team performance and results across the season. Our First XV secured their first win in the AIC First XV Rugby season since 2023 with a compelling victory over Iona 47–7.

This year also saw a return to international touring with the College sending a Senior squad of 30 students from Years 10–12 to New Zealand on the Term 1 Easter holidays for a 7-day tour. This is the start of a regular cycle of touring both internationally and domestically for Rugby Union at St Peters.

This season has set St Peters Rugby up for an even bigger and better year in 2027.

The 2026 AIC Chess season came to an end last Friday with our final round at home against St Laurence’s College. As always, the boys were up against some strong opposition, but it was a fitting way to finish what has been a very successful season for the program.

Across all age groups, the boys have represented St Peters extremely well throughout the term. Whether competing for premierships or continuing to develop their game, every team has contributed to a season the College can be proud of.

New Equipment Grant Success

The St Peters Rowing community would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in securing the grant for the new Concept 2 erg bikes now set up in the school’s ergo room, as well as the new 1st VIII cox box.

These bikes have already been a huge help and success to our rowers, providing them with an opportunity to cross-train and improve their fitness off the water. They ventured out to Wyaralong Dam for the first time for the boys' third regatta of the season last Saturday and were a huge help with warming up and cooling down, allowing the boys to perform at their best.

Alongside the bikes, the grant allowed the purchase of a new cox box for the 1st VIII, improving their cox's ability to support the crew as we move further into the girls' season.

We are very thankful to Sports House, the Business Department and especially our very own Parent Support Group for making this happen. The effort put into this achievement by the St Peters community is an amazing display of teamwork and both the benefits and privilege of new equipment. Thank you to all involved.

Pasta Night & Boat Loading on Friday 19 June

A reminder that Pasta Night and boat loading will take place on Friday afternoon ahead of the regatta. This is an important part of our preparation and helps ensure all equipment is packed, checked and ready for a smooth start on Saturday morning.

It is also a great opportunity for the boys to spend some time together as a squad before the weekend. We look forward to seeing all athletes at Wyaralong Dam on Saturday, ready to go.

Trophy Regatta on Saturday 20 June

Trophy Regatta marks the final regatta of the season and is the event we have been building towards all year. With strong competition expected across all age groups, it promises to be a fantastic day of racing and an opportunity for every crew to showcase the hard work they have put in throughout the season.

Vicki Wilson Netball – Regional Round

On Friday 5 June, St Peters proudly competed in the Met West Vicki Wilson Cup Regional Round. The Vicki Wilson Cup is the premier netball competition for secondary schools across Queensland, providing students with the opportunity to represent their school and region while competing for a place in the Finals Series.

Our Open team delivered an outstanding performance, remaining undefeated throughout the day to secure qualification for the Vicki Wilson Cup Finals Series in August. Our Junior team also performed strongly, finishing 14th overall across the region.

In recent years, St Peters has had great success in the Vicki Wilson Cup Final Series:

U18 Queensland AFL Squad – Stella S

Congratulations to Stella S (Year 12) who has been selected in the Queensland AFL U18 team. The final squad will represent their state at the 2026 Marsh AFL National Championships — the pinnacle of representative football within the AFL Talent Pathway Program. Bringing together the country’s leading emerging talent, the championships provide players with the opportunity to test themselves against the best young footballers in Australia on the national stage.

The carnival will run from June 14 to July 11, with Queensland scheduled to take on Victoria Country, Victoria Metro, South Australia and the Allies.

QRSS Basketball Team – Mia C

Congratulations to Mia C (Year 12) on her selection in the 2026 17–19 Years Girls Queensland Representative School Sport (QRSS) Basketball Team. Mia earned this honour following her outstanding performance at the state championships held at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre earlier in June.

Girls Rowing Camp – Bucca (6–11 July)

With the holidays fast approaching, excitement is building for our upcoming girls rowing camp at Bucca from 6–11 July.

Camp is always a highlight of the season and provides an opportunity for the girls to spend time together, develop as athletes and continue building strong squad culture away from school.

We are looking forward to a fantastic week at Bucca and all the opportunities it will provide for the girls both on and off the water.

The QGSSSA Autumn Fixtures season has now wrapped up! Thank you to all students and families for your commitment and support throughout a fantastic season. Well done to all involved for their efforts and sportsmanship. Results can be found at QGSSSA.

Northern Eagles Track & Field Nominations

Students interested in the Representative Track & Field pathway are invited to nominate for the Northern Eagles Track & Field Trials. Please be aware that this is a competitive trial. For instructions on how to nominate, please see the information on the St Peters App.

This trial will be held on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 July at the State Athletics Facility (SAF). Students born in 2016 (10 years old) or earlier can nominate for these trials.

The full nomination package will be sent to students early in Week 2 who have been selected for the St Peters Lutheran College District Track & Field team.
