Last week, we reflected on the importance of taking pride in ourselves and our uniform—how the way we present ourselves each day speaks to our identity, our standards, and our shared values as a community. This week, we turn our attention to another vital expression of pride: the way we care for our college environment.
The appearance and upkeep of our campus reflect the respect we have for one another and the pride we take in being part of this community. In recent weeks, however, we’ve noticed an increasing number of lunchboxes, drink bottles, and school bags left in playgrounds and shared outdoor spaces. These items not only create an untidy environment but also present safety concerns, increase the risk of lost property, and detract from the welcoming, respectful atmosphere we all value.
We are asking all students to take responsibility for the spaces they use. Just as we take pride in how we wear our uniform, we must also take pride in the way we leave our environment. This includes:
Collecting and packing away all personal items after each break.
Placing rubbish in the correct bins and encouraging peers to do the same.
Treating College property, gardens, and outdoor areas with care.
Respect shared spaces so that all community members can enjoy them.
Parents and carers, I would greatly appreciate your support in reinforcing these messages at home. A gentle reminder in the morning about collecting belongings or a conversation about respecting our shared spaces helps build habits that align with the values we teach at school.
Together, we can continue to build a culture of responsibility, respect, and pride, where every student not only wears their uniform with dignity but also contributes to an environment that we can all take pride in.

IB in Action: Year 11s Investigate Urban Heat Through Science
Recently, the Year 11 IB cohort participated in their Collaborative Science Project (CSP), an interdisciplinary science investigation that addresses real-world problems. This year’s theme focused on examining the urban heat island effect at various locations across our Indooroopilly campus.
Over several lessons, students collected key data such as radiant heat and light intensity, analysing how these environmental factors vary across different built and natural areas of the school. Using this data, each group created a design to mitigate the effects of urban heat, incorporating both soft landscaping (such as vegetation and green space) and hard landscaping (like structural or material modifications).
Students took inspiration from green architecture and urban designs observed in both local and international settings, applying their scientific understanding to propose innovative and practical solutions.
A big congratulations to this year’s winning team—Nadya S, Erica M, Amelie P, Yuan Z, Peculiar E-U, and Rachel T—for their outstanding project that impressed with both its creativity and scientific rigour.
Special thanks go to Maria Liveris (Biology teacher) and Andrea Quinn (Head of Sciences) for their leadership of the CSP and to Susannah Treschman (IB Core Coordinator) for helping to link the project to broader IB learning outcomes.
The purpose of the CSP is not only to strengthen scientific and collaborative skills but also to help students develop as active and engaged global citizens. The project encourages them to appreciate the role of science and technology in addressing local and global challenges—an essential outcome of the IB Diploma Programme.

Under Eights Morning
Throughout last week, all around Australia, young children, their teachers and caregivers celebrated Under Eights Week.
Lower Primary celebrated with a variety of activities, and our Years 1 and 2 playground was abuzz with laughter, creativity, and energy as we honoured the youngest members of our community.
Under the theme 'Unleashing Scientific Thinking Through Play,' we donned our lab coats and participated in engaging science activities and play.
With a special visit from Dr Rob and his Science Show, a performance by the St Peters Drumline, and a communal Morning Tea and playtime, we were blessed with laughter, friendship, and fun.
Thanks to Mrs Grieves, Mrs King, Mr Glass, and Mr Brock for organising this dynamic morning of learning and fun. Their dedication and enthusiasm, along with the tireless efforts of all Early Years staff, created a memorable experience for our students. A special mention goes to the Year 12 IB students whose support added an extra layer of warmth to the festivities.
Together, we remain committed to nurturing the boundless potential of our youngest learners, fostering confidence, compassion, and resilience. Here's to many more adventures in learning and fun at St Peters!
Promoting Student Wellbeing Through the PYP
At St Peters, we value the holistic development of each child—and this includes their social, emotional, and physical wellbeing. A recent study conducted by the Australian Council for Educational Research has affirmed the positive impact of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) on student wellbeing across Australian schools.
Key Findings:
Wellbeing is central: The PYP supports student wellbeing through its learner profile attributes and approaches to learning, helping children build emotional resilience, positive identity, empathy, and social skills.
PYP students thrive: Compared to students in non-PYP schools, PYP students reported higher levels of happiness, stronger relationships, and fewer negative emotions and behaviours.
Stronger outcomes with strong implementation: Schools that more fully embrace and implement the PYP framework show greater student wellbeing, a more positive school climate, and stronger teacher confidence in supporting students.
Home – School Partnerships matters: High-quality PYP schools also showed stronger collaboration among teachers and families, which contributed to more supportive classrooms and better student outcomes.
This research reinforces our commitment to the PYP as a powerful framework that nurtures not only academic achievement but also confident, caring, and capable learners.

Junior High News
Welcome to Week 7
As we move towards the end of term, the finish line is now in sight. Across the campus, students are busily preparing for exams and finalising assignments, while continuing to engage actively in all aspects of Junior High life.
Managing Assessment Stress: A Parent’s Role
It is normal for students to experience some stress as they prepare for assessments. It is equally normal for parents to share in this sense of pressure. A certain level of stress can assist students by enhancing motivation and focus, but excessive stress can quickly become counterproductive and may impair academic performance. As parents, there are practical ways to help your child navigate this busy period:
Encourage a healthy balance between study and regular breaks
Provide a quiet, dedicated space for study
Offer healthy food choices to support energy and concentration
Reconciliation Week was featured in our Junior High Assembly this week, offering students the opportunity to reflect on the importance of reconciliation in the Australian context. As a school community, we remain committed to strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all.
Kaleidoscope
Congratulations to the entire Kaleidoscope team for delivering an outstanding performance. The audience was thoroughly impressed by the professionalism, creativity, and talent displayed on stage. The dedication and hard work invested by students, staff, and supporters alike were clearly evident.
Health Notification
A number of cases of Influenza A, Influenza B, and COVID have been reported in Junior High over the last week. In the interests of student wellbeing and to prevent the spread of illness, we kindly request that students who are unwell remain at home until they are fit to return to school.
Camps
Our camp program continues to provide valuable opportunities for growth, connection, and learning. These experiences remain a core component of Junior High’s holistic approach to education, and we remain grateful for the partnership of staff and families in making these opportunities possible.
Camp dates:
Year 7 Fun and Friendship Camp (three days) | 18–20 June 2025
Year 8 GREAT Lies Within Camp (four days) | 15–18 July 2025

Year 8 Kaleidoscope, All Over the World
Over the years, Kaleidoscope has become so successful that it is now one of the key events in the Year 8 calendar and has been described by students as a “rite of passage” in Junior High.
Congratulations to the cast of nearly 120 Year 8 students plus five very organised backstage crew on their outstanding performances of All Over the World last weekend. From the inclusive message of Welcome to the poignancy of Who I Am, to the character-filled boys’ dance Aussie BBQ, to the spectacular and colourful Dancing in the Street routine, and the culminating message of I Lived. They were great nights of music, dance and drama. Thank you to the Arts Professionals team and numerous St Peters staff who supported them throughout the rehearsals and performances.
One of the cast members, Kimi J, created a lovely collage as a response to her involvement in Kaleidoscope.

St Peters celebrated Reconciliation Round with a vibrant showcase of culture and community. The Welcome to Country, smoking ceremonies alongside Uncle Gav, created an cultural enriching experience. Both the Football Focus Round on Saturday and final Rugby First XV home game saw excellent attendance from students, parents, and Old Scholars, making the events truly memorable. With St Peters being a rich cultural tapestry it was fantastic to celebrate our Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander students and pause to consider the continued work towards reconciliation, to work together in the theme of Bridging now to next.
On Wednesday 4 June, St Peters shone at the AIC Cross Country Championships, finishing fourth on aggregate and placing first in the 16 years age group. Highlights included students achieving nine top 10 finishes across age groups, personal bests and those who ran to support their teammates, overcoming injuries, illness, or first-race nerves. This embodies the essence of Cross Country, where students compete not just against others, but with themselves, striving for excellence and pushing their limits. The spirit of resilience and camaraderie was truly inspiring.
Reminder to keep 17 June free for the Semester 1 Sports Awards. Invitations for award recipients will be sent out in Week 8. Student awards including; Most Valuable Player, Coaches, Spirit, Player of the Year and Service to Sport.
