There is a palpable sense of anticipation and excitement across the Secondary School as students begin looking towards the next stage of their educational journey.

Our Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 students are currently engaging in the subject selection process for 2027, a significant milestone that invites them to reflect on their strengths, interests, and aspirations. As they consider the diverse pathways available to them, we encourage students to seek guidance from their teachers and families, ask thoughtful questions, and make informed decisions that will support both their academic aspirations and personal development.

For our Year 11 students, attention is beginning to shift towards the completion of Unit 2. As they approach the conclusion of their first year of senior studies, there is a growing sense of purpose and resolve across the cohort. The coming months will provide an opportunity to consolidate their knowledge, refine effective study practices and establish a strong foundation for the academic rigour and opportunities that await in Year 12.

Meanwhile, our Year 12 students are preparing for their mock examinations. These practice assessments offer an invaluable opportunity to experience authentic exam conditions, evaluate their progress, and strengthen their confidence ahead of the Term 4 QCAA External Examinations. It has been immensely rewarding to witness the resilience, diligence, and maturity our students have demonstrated as they prepare for this significant stage of their educational journey.

Across every year level, students are embracing opportunities to challenge themselves, make meaningful decisions and pursue excellence. Whether selecting subjects, completing Unit 2 or preparing for their final external assessments, they continue to demonstrate admirable enthusiasm, perseverance and commitment. We are immensely proud of all they have accomplished and look forward to celebrating their continued growth, achievements and successes in the months ahead.

Recently we had kerbside collection in our suburb, and all manner of things (and I do mean all) were strewn in front of people’s houses and apartment blocks. It’s always interesting to see what people put out to be collected, and what people salvage. Items discarded by some as rubbish are collected by others as treasure. So what’s important to you, and what do you consider precious?

Sometimes we think precious means something expensive or rare, but often the most precious things are not things at all. Love is precious, safety is precious, hope is precious, education is precious.

This coming weekend, on Saturday 8 August, students and staff from St Peters will be joining the annual Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS) Walk My Way event, starting at QUT Gardens Point, and walking through South Bank. Two years ago we supported children impacted by the war in Ukraine, and last year we supported children all around the world whose lives were upended by conflict. This year, we are walking to raise awareness and funds to protect young girls from child marriage by providing access to education.

In our Chapels, we have heard the stories of Isaro and Angeline. Both girls live in the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya with their families. Isaro dreams of becoming a policewoman, and Angeline dreams of becoming a doctor. For both of them, education is something that is precious and gives them hope for a better future. $100 helps to provide education, a school uniform and meals for girls like Isaro and Angeline. $450 is enough to train a refugee to be a teacher in the refugee camp, so that girls like Isaro and Angeline can stay in school and keep learning.

Psalm 72 says of God, “He will be kind to the weak and poor… their lives are precious to him.” God sees and loves the children in the Kakuma refugee camp, and we are called to love them too. We are called to love our neighbours — those who live around us, who we play with, learn with and work with, but also those who are far away, whose lives may be very different from ours. Service Learning at St Peters is all about being other-centred and seeking justice for others, both near and far.

The Social Justice students will be meeting at the Subway at QUT Gardens Point at 12:45pm on Saturday, so if you’d like to walk with the group, you can meet us there.

For our Primary students, we will be holding a walk for Lower Primary on Tuesday lunchtime 11 August, and for Upper Primary we will have a walk at lunchtime on Tuesday 18 August. Fundraising and donations for both of these walks can be done through our St Peters fundraising page linked above.

Our College recently celebrated a special shared milestone, with our Prep students reaching 100 days of school while our Year 12 students marked approximately 100 school days remaining before graduation.

Earlier this year, our Prep students welcomed their Year 12 Buddies by presenting them with their senior jerseys, marking the beginning of a special friendship that continues to grow throughout the year. To celebrate this latest milestone, every Year 12 student designed and created a personalised T-shirt for their Prep Buddy before enjoying games, dancing and a special visit from the local fire brigade, with the fire truck proving a highlight of the day.

Marking the occasion, our Year 12 students celebrated by dressing as a character beginning with the letter of their name before sharing a special lunch together, taking time to reflect on their journey and the exciting months ahead.

It was a beautiful display of connection between the youngest and eldest members of our school, highlighting the strong sense of community that defines St Peters Springfield.

At St Peters Springfield, learning extends well beyond the classroom. Our co-curricular clubs provide students with opportunities to discover new interests, build confidence, develop practical skills and connect with like-minded peers in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Whether your child enjoys creating, performing or capturing the world through a camera lens, there's a place for them to explore their passions and develop new talents.

Art Club (Years 7–12) provides a relaxed and inclusive space for students of all skill levels to experiment with new techniques, explore different artistic mediums and create alongside friends. Students also have the opportunity to showcase their work at our annual Arts Night.

Drama Troupes provide students with the opportunity to build confidence, develop communication skills and express their creativity through performance in a fun and supportive environment. Open to students of all experience levels, members work collaboratively towards our annual Drama Night, with Secondary students also having opportunities to participate in external competitions. No audition is required, however places are limited (20 in Primary and 25 in Secondary), so students are encouraged to register early. In musical years, the Secondary Drama Troupe operates during Semester 2 only, while in non-musical years it runs across the full school year.

Media and Photography Club (Years 7–12) is perfect for students with an interest in photography and visual storytelling. Members learn to use professional mirrorless cameras while capturing many of the memorable moments that make up College life.

We look forward to welcoming even more students as they discover new interests, build lasting friendships and make the most of the many opportunities available at St Peters Springfield.

Last week, our Year 5 students travelled to Kindilan Outdoor Education Centre for an unforgettable three-day camp filled with adventure, teamwork and plenty of fun.

St Peters Springfield congratulates Year 12 student Aiyana P on being invited to the 2026 AFLW Draft Combine in Melbourne, placing her among the country's most promising young footballers.

Aiyana is one of just 46 athletes from across Australia selected to attend the prestigious Combine, where AFLW clubs assess the nation's leading draft prospects through interviews and a series of physical tests, including the vertical jump, 20-metre sprint, agility test and endurance time trial. The four-day event, held from 29 September to 3 October, is a significant milestone on the pathway to the 2026 AFLW Draft.

The invitation follows an outstanding year for Aiyana, who represented Queensland at the 2026 Marsh AFL National Championships after being selected in the state's Under 18 squad. She was also selected in the 2026 Marsh AFL National Academy, earning her place among the country's most talented draft-eligible footballers.

Since joining St Peters Springfield in 2021, Aiyana has embraced every opportunity to develop her game. After first discovering Australian Rules Football in Year 8, she quickly progressed from school football to club competition and the AFL talent pathway. Her rapid rise is a testament to her dedication, perseverance and commitment to continual improvement.

We are incredibly proud of everything Aiyana has achieved and look forward to following her journey through the AFLW Draft Combine. We wish Aiyana every success and hope to hear her name called at the 2026 AFLW Draft later this year.

Ms Corina Palofox the Woodwind Tutor and Grainger Band Director has resigned to pursue more performing and teaching opportunities. We thank Ms Palofox for her contribution to the Year 5 Band Program, Grainger Concert Band and to the continued growth within the woodwind department. Corina will cease teaching in the Private Tuition Program at the end of Term 3 but will continue conducting Grainger Concert Band until the Performing Arts Showcase Concert in October. The process of recruitment is underway, and parents and students will be notified of the new appointment as soon as possible. 

Ipswich Junior Speech and Drama Eisteddfod 

There were several students throughout the college who participated at the Ipswich Junior Speech and Communication Eisteddfod last week. 

Results received to date: 

• Aanya D, Ruby W, Ruhika S, Mihika R, Shanaya D, Tejas B, and Yug K were awarded Third Place presenting a 10-minute excerpt from The Importance of being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. 
  
• Shanaya D and Ruhika S participated in eleven sections achieving from 1st – 4th place.
• Shanaya D was awarded First Place in the Silk Stone Eisteddfod Memorial Award.
• Ruhika S was awarded Second Place in the Silk Stone Eisteddfod Memorial Award.
• Ahana D and Aditi B also won First Place in the 7 and 8 years Poem in Pairs.

GBC Track & Field Championships 

The GBC Track & Field Championships are fast approaching and will be held on Monday, 31 August. Students selected as part of the Championship squad will be notified via email this week. A final event list will be communicated to families prior to the competition. Final team selections will be based on recent Inter-House Athletics performances, including recorded times and results, as well as training attendance and commitment throughout the preparation period. All selected students are strongly encouraged to attend training sessions on Monday and/or Wednesday mornings, particularly if they are not currently training with an external club or program. Regular attendance will help ensure athletes are well prepared to perform at their best on the day.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to three outstanding St Peters Springfield Old Scholars who proudly represented their countries at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, achieving remarkable success on the international stage.

Leading the way was Mollie O'Callaghan (Class of 2022), who enjoyed an exceptional campaign in the pool, claiming gold in the 200m Freestyle, gold in the 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay, silver in the 100m Freestyle and another gold as part of Australia's 4 x 100m Medley Relay team.

Fellow Class of 2022 graduate Ella Ramsay also delivered an outstanding performance, earning a bronze medal in the 400m Individual Medley.

Representing New Zealand, Martina Salmon (née Reekers) (Class of 2021) celebrated gold with the New Zealand Netball team, helping the Silver Ferns secure the Commonwealth Games title.

These outstanding achievements reflect the dedication, perseverance and pursuit of excellence that continue well beyond graduation. We are incredibly proud to see our Old Scholars representing their countries on the world stage and inspiring the next generation of St Peters students to pursue their own passions with confidence and purpose.
