Life Wide Learning in Full Flight – Semester 1 Reflection
As Semester 1 concludes, it is a fitting time to reflect on the breadth of opportunities available to our students at St Peters Springfield. Life wide learning continues to be a defining feature of our community, where growth happens not only in classrooms, but across experiences that challenge, inspire and prepare our young people for life.
Our Performing Arts program has been a recent highlight, with two Showcase evenings followed by Studio Recitals. These events displayed remarkable development in individual students and in the program as a whole. Standout moments included performances from our newly established Rock Band and a heartfelt Community Sing-Along with the Choir, which was evidence of music’s power to connect and uplift.
In Sport, students have continued to engage with grit and grace. Success has been experienced across both team sports and in major carnivals, including the QGSSSA, AIC and GBC Cross Country Championships. Meanwhile, growth has also been evident in Secondary Years Debating and Public Speaking, with increasing participation and confidence on display throughout the season. A significant new milestone was also reached in June, with the College entering its first ever Brisbane Kokoda Challenge, with four teams participating and one of them completing a grueling 48km hike over almost 11 hours.
Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme participation is very high, with the majority of the Year 9 cohort commencing their Bronze Award and can be regularly seen around the College completing their Sport, Skills or Volunteering components. Many Senior students are also progressing through Silver and Gold Awards, with all these students being supported in part by the Ironbark experience which fulfils an aspect of the Adventurous Journey requirement.
Our camp program has continued to offer rich, experiential learning in different settings throughout Term 2, with Year 6 in Canberra, Year 5 at Mount Tamborine, Year 10 currently engaged in the IGNITE Entrepreneurial Program and Year 11 undertaking their Leadership Camp this week. We are excited to extend this program into Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 in the future.
These experiences do not occur by chance. They are thoughtfully designed and delivered by our dedicated staff to challenge our young people and inspire them to live lives of purpose guided by values. They also reflect our commitment to the belief that Ever Higher is achievable every day through perseverance and a commitment to personal growth.
