The Power of Being There
One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is our presence.
Throughout the year, our Primary Years students eagerly invite their families into their learning journeys through Performing Arts performances, Celebrations of Learning, assemblies, PYP Exhibition, sporting activities and special events. While these occasions showcase the wonderful learning taking place across our College, they also provide something even more powerful – a sense of belonging, pride and connection for our children.
There is a moment that never fails to bring a smile. As students walk onto a stage, enter a classroom, or prepare to share their learning, their eyes immediately begin scanning the audience. Then, when they spot a familiar face—a parent, grandparent, sibling or special friend—their whole expression changes. Their eyes light up, their posture lifts and their confidence grows. In that moment, they know that what they are doing matters.
Within the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), we speak often about agency, reflection and authentic audiences. Students are empowered to take ownership of their learning and to share their understandings with others. When families attend performances and Celebrations of Learning, they become an important part of this process. They provide an authentic audience that helps students develop confidence as communicators, risk-takers and reflective learners.
Parent engagement is not simply about attending an event; it is about sending a powerful message to children that their learning, creativity and effort are valued. Every performance attended, every display viewed and every conversation had after a Celebration of Learning reinforces the partnership between home and school that is so critical to student success.
As a community, we are incredibly grateful for the support our families provide. Whether you are able to attend every event or just one, your presence makes a difference. Our students notice. They remember. Most importantly, they feel encouraged to continue striving, creating, performing and growing.
Thank you for partnering with us in nurturing confident, capable and compassionate young people. Together, we are helping our students become internationally minded learners who understand that their voice matters and that their learning has purpose beyond the classroom.
