Introducing Arise Live: Growing Faith, Building Community
At St Peters Springfield, we believe deeply in the importance of providing opportunities for our young people to grow in faith and live in God’s love. Rooted in the traditions of Lutheran education, our partnership with Arise Lutheran Church continues to offer meaningful ways for students and families to explore and celebrate their Christian journey. This Term, we are excited to introduce Arise Live.
Held on the final Sunday of each month at St Peters Springfield, Arise Live is a contemporary worship experience designed especially for Senior Youth, Young Adults or just the Young at Heart. The first service, led by our very own Chaplain Ben Lyons, was held on Sunday 25 May and welcomed a vibrant gathering of young people, families and staff into an atmosphere filled with live music, simple messages, and authentic connection. The next Service is taking place on Sunday 29 June, and we invite all interested members of our community to attend.
Arise Live aims to create a space where faith is not only spoken about but lived out in meaningful ways. The initiative reflects one of our core strategic commitments: Celebrating the Gospel - Living in God’s Love. In doing so, we affirm that faith is not confined to the classroom, but is experienced through community, worship, and shared purpose.
As Arise Lutheran Church celebrates its eighth year of ministry, this new chapter strengthens our shared mission of preparing young people for a life of purpose guided by values. Through the ongoing leadership of Pastor Matt Wilksch, our College Chaplain and Pastor at Arise, we are also planning to take God's message of love and grace for your young people out to the broader Springfield Community.
We give thanks for Pastor Matt, the Arise team, and all who make this ministry possible. We look forward to seeing you at Arise Live.

Arise Live!
I want their hearts to be encouraged and united in love, so that they may have all the riches of assured understanding and have the knowledge of God’s mystery, that is, Christ. Colossians 2:2
If you are a Christian, then you have faith because someone told you about God. Probably more than one person has helped you believe. It may have been parents, Godparents, family members, friends, pastors, teachers, youth leaders - God uses many people to pass on the faith.
If you are not a Christian but would like to know what this entails, please talk to a Chaplain or Christian staff member, and they will gladly share what this means for them and will encourage you as you search for truth, identity and purpose.
Children need to claim their faith as their own as they grow. The Church provides a community of faith for people to grow in faith. Children are welcome, and they need all the help we can give them so they have the best opportunity to hold on to their faith into adulthood. For young people who do not know God, they need an opportunity to hear stories of grace and faith and God's great story of salvation.
Arise Live is a new initiative of our worshipping community at Springfield where this can happen. The first event happened last Sunday Evening. Arise Live is a simple worship event, focused on great music and God’s Word and prayer. The Band of young people played 8 fabulous worship songs. Chappie Ben Lyons shared God’s word about living in the world, but being “not of this world”. And there was pizza! We want our young people to know there is a place for them, for their support and growth. We hope this can be a way for them to grow in faith and friendship around God's word.
I found a beautiful expression of the desire for people to grow in faith in the words of the Apostle Paul to the Christians in Colossae: "I want their hearts to be encouraged and united in love, so that they may have all the riches of assured understanding and have the knowledge of God’s mystery, that is, Christ." Colossians 2:2
Paul's desire for the Colossians to be encouraged and united in love, so they may know Christ. I share this desire for our young people.
Pastor Matt Wilksch Springfield Chaplain and Arise Pastor
Arise Live happens on the last Sunday of the Month at 6:00pm in the Junior High Precinct at St Peters Lutheran College Springfield. The event is aimed at Youth and Young Adults, but anyone is welcome to attend.
National Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week started as the Week of Prayer for Reconciliation in 1993 (the International Year of the World’s Indigenous Peoples) and was supported by Australia’s major faith communities. In 1996, the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation launched Australia’s first National Reconciliation Week. In 2001, Reconciliation Australia was established to continue to provide national leadership on reconciliation. The National Reconciliation Week (NRW) 2025 theme, Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future. Bridging Now to Next calls on all Australians to step forward together, to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us.
On our pathway towards reconciliation, Sorry Day is an important moment to remember the past policies of forced child removal. Here, we reflect on the sad and painful history of the Stolen Generations and recognise moments of resilience, healing and the power of saying Sorry. National Sorry Day is an Australia-wide observance held each year. This day gives people the chance to come together and share the steps towards healing for the Stolen Generations, their families and communities. Stolen generations refer to Indigenous Australians who were forcibly removed from their families and communities.
Prayer for National Reconciliation Week
Almighty and loving God, you who created all people in your image, Lead us to seek your compassion as we listen to the stories of our past. You gave your only Son, Jesus, who died and rose again so that sins will be forgiven. We place before you the pain and anguish of dispossession of land, language, lore, culture and family kinship that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have experienced. We live in faith that all people will rise from the depths of despair and hopelessness. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families have endured the pain and loss of loved ones, through the separation of children from their families. We are sorry and ask Your forgiveness. Touch the hearts of the broken, homeless and inflicted and heal their spirits. In your mercy and compassion walk with us as we continue our journey of healing to create a future that is just and equitable. Lord, you are our hope. Amen

ICAS Competition
ICAS Competition
Within our College community, there are students who shine brightly, displaying exemplary dedication and Academic talent. They deserve to be recognised. This year we are giving students the opportunity to showcase and celebrate their talents in the ICAS Competition.
What is ICAS?
ICAS is an online Academic competition that gives students the opportunity to challenge their higher order thinking and problem-solving skills. This year, St Peters Lutheran College Springfield will offer students in Years 2 - 10 competition access in English, Mathematics and Science.
ICAS evaluates student performance against other competition entrants across the state and nation. The data reveals student strengths and weaknesses and can help you recognise and support your child's Academic journey.
Every student who participates in ICAS is celebrated with a printed certificate, and an online results report to track development each year. Top performers are eligible for one of the highly coveted ICAS medals.
Your child’s ICAS certificates will show their results and the login details, “TAP ID and Pin”. You will use these to enter the ICAS Results Portal: https://orti.icasassessments.com/ortiStudent
How to participate in ICAS
If you wish for your child to participate in ICAS this year, please access the Parent Portal to register for your chosen subjects. Visit our shop and use our PPS code to log in:

Year 11 Business Team Places 2nd Nationally in QUT BlueShift Grand Final
We are thrilled to celebrate the incredible success of our Year 11 students who placed 2nd in the nation in the prestigious QUT BlueShift Business Case Competition. Awards were presented earlier this week at Assembly, and we couldn’t be prouder of their outstanding performance.
BlueShift is a nationally recognised business competition run by the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), where students are challenged to solve a real-world business problem. This year, the task was set by QUT Sport, asking students to deliver innovative solutions to a current issue facing their operations.
Our students first submitted a strategic slide deck, earning them a place in the national finals alongside top-performing teams from across Australia. In the finals round, they delivered a professional 10-minute pitch and responded to 5 minutes of live Q&A from a panel of judges—without knowing the questions in advance.
Their exceptional performance secured them a spot in the grand final, where they presented to an auditorium of peers and a new panel of judges. Facing intense scrutiny, our team demonstrated composure, insight, and professionalism well beyond their years. Although they were narrowly beaten in the final decision, placing 2nd in the country is an extraordinary achievement, and we are immensely proud.
Competitions like BlueShift are just one of the many exceptional opportunities available at our College. With increasing interest and participation, we hope to build formal business competition teams that allow senior students to mentor younger entrepreneurs, fostering leadership, innovation, and collaboration.
Students who are interested in taking part in future opportunities like this are encouraged to become actively involved in the Academic Portfolio, as similar experiences are available across many subject areas.
Congratulations again to our brilliant Year 11 team!
Mrs Natasha Banks Economics, Business and French Teacher
Get ready to Ignite Innovation at Our College
We are excited to announce that our Year 10 students will participate in Ignite - a dynamic, five-day entrepreneurial workshop that replaces the regular curriculum for one week and empowers students to become changemakers. The program culminates in a high-energy Showcase Event, where student teams pitch their own innovative, scalable, and sustainable business solutions to a panel of judges.
Led by experienced and engaging facilitators from Future Anything, Ignite begins with students reflecting on their personal passions and lived experiences. They form teams of up to five, united by a shared desire to solve a meaningful problem. Using design thinking and cutting-edge entrepreneurial tools, students will ideate, prototype, and develop business models for their unique solutions.
To make this experience even more impactful, we are inviting members of our College community; parents, Old Scholars, local business owners, and professionals to get involved. Whether you can offer mentorship, provide feedback, or serve as a judge during the Showcase Event, your insights and experience can make a real difference in guiding and inspiring our young innovators.
If you are interested in being part of this exciting journey, please reach out to Mr Joel Sheppard – j.sheppard@stpeters.qld.edu.au.
Let’s work together to ignite the next generation of entrepreneurs.

St Peters Girls Shine at the BSRA Indoor Rowing Championships - Tuesday, 20 May
The annual BSRA Indoor Rowing Championships lit up All Hallows School last Tuesday evening, delivering another thrilling showcase of grit, endurance, and school spirit. Held each May, this event brings together rowers from all BSRA schools to compete head-to-head on ergometer machines in both individual and team events. It’s not just about the results, it’s a test of personal strength, mental toughness, and team unity as girls strive to set PBs, break records, and put their training to the test.
This year’s competition was fierce, with schools across the region turning out top performances, but the St Peters squad stood tall with a series of outstanding results.
Podium Results:
Gold – Year 8 Individual 500m: Amelia K delivered a sensational sprint to claim first place in her division, showing incredible power and composure under pressure. Silver – Year 11 Individual 2000m: Steph P rowed with precision and endurance to earn a hard-fought second place in a gruelling test of stamina. Bronze – Year 11 Team 5 x 500m: The team of Steph P, Mia M, Jade M, Yoyo W, and Lily R pushed hard and put in a gutsy effort to claim third in a tight field.
