We’re thrilled to once again bring Ignite to our Year 10 cohort, a high-impact, week-long entrepreneurial experience that takes the place of regular classes and challenges students to think creatively, act boldly, and drive meaningful change.

Across five days, students will collaborate in small teams to design innovative, sustainable solutions to real-world problems. The week culminates in an exciting Showcase Event, where teams present and pitch their ideas to a panel of judges.

Delivered by the expert facilitators from Future Anything, the program starts with students exploring their interests, values, and experiences. From there, they work in teams, applying design thinking and entrepreneurial strategies to develop, test, and refine their ideas into viable business concepts.

Have you ever wondered how Christianity became a thing? How did it spread so quickly and so enduringly from a small group of followers of a man who was crucified in Judea to a movement that was embraced by the whole Roman Empire?

The Australian apologist, pastor and theologian John Dickson puts it like this:

“At the time of his death, Jesus, a carpenter from Nazareth, with no money and no political office, who was killed after three years in the public eye, had perhaps a few hundred followers. Yet somehow these men and women, most of whom were uneducated and hailed from an oppressed people group in a backwater of the Roman Empire, went on, without any violence or force, to persuade the Roman Empire that the crucified one was the true Lord. This is simply astounding - some would say miraculous.”

The change in Jesus’ followers is incredible. In the evening of the day of Jesus’ rising, they were huddled behind locked doors because they were afraid. The scripture tells us the disciples then encountered the risen Jesus and this was the catalyst for their transformation. They realised Jesus was alive despite witnessing his death and burial.

While their encounter with the risen Jesus might explain why they refused to compromise their witness to Jesus’ resurrection for the rest of their lives, it doesn’t account for the rapid spread of this new movement called The Way. There is no way they could have achieved the successful spread of the Gospel apart from the miraculous, supernatural empowerment by the Holy Spirit.

Pentecost is the pouring out of the Holy Spirit, which God foretold in scripture and which Jesus himself has promised to his disciples. Jesus says he will send “power” which will enable them to fulfill his commission that they take the good news to the ends of the earth. The Holy Spirit is this power. “Power” in Greek is “dynamis”, which gives us English words such as dynamo and dynamite. This is the power God gives to the disciples. This is the power that enables the Gospel to spread far beyond human capability.

Last Sunday we began the Pentecost season by remembering the wonderful event of the giving of the Holy Spirit. We celebrate that God gives the Holy Spirit to everyone who asks for it, and to all who believe in him and are baptised into his name.

This power is for you. You are invited to join this movement and receive God’s power to fulfil your purpose on earth.

On Wednesday 17 June 2026, students in Years 11 and 12 are invited to step onto campus for Experience UniSQ, an immersive event designed to help prospective students explore university life, discover future career pathways, and gain hands-on insight into their dream degree.

This exciting experience gives students the opportunity to engage directly with academics, explore industry-standard facilities, and participate in practical workshops across a wide range of study areas.

From piloting a Boeing 737 flight simulator and producing content in a television studio, to tackling earthquake engineering challenges and participating in real-world business simulations, Experience UniSQ brings learning to life in an engaging and interactive environment.

Students can choose from a diverse range of sessions including:

The Year 5 Celebration of Learning held on Monday 25 May, was a wonderful showcase of student learning, creativity, and confidence. Families gathered on the Concourse to enjoy a special afternoon featuring opening speeches, a Welcome to Country, prayers, musical performances by 5S and 5T, and an energetic Year 5 Dance presentation. The celebrations concluded with parents visiting classrooms to view the students’ Evidence of Learning artwork, where students proudly shared and explained their learning journey. It was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the achievements and talents of our Year 5 students.

A special thank you goes to our students, staff, and families for their support in making the afternoon such a success. The enthusiasm and pride displayed by the students reflected the hard work, collaboration, and creativity that has taken place throughout the How to Express Ourselves Unit of Inquiry. It was wonderful to see our Year 5 students presenting with such confidence and engaging so thoughtfully with parents and visitors as they shared their learning experiences.

Last week, our Year 12 students participated in an engaging and thought-provoking financial literacy session led by guest speaker Mr Colin Archard, former financial planner, business owner and father of Mrs Sarah Johnson, St Peters Springfield’s Pathways and Counselling Leader.

Drawing on decades of professional and personal experience, Mr Archard challenged students to think beyond school and begin envisioning the future they hope to create for themselves. Through practical discussions around goal setting, wealth creation, financial responsibility and long-term planning, students were encouraged to consider the habits and decisions that can positively shape their adult lives.

A key focus of the session was the importance of starting young, understanding the difference between good and bad debt, developing healthy financial behaviours and learning how to work smarter, not harder when building future stability and success.

Throughout the presentation, students were encouraged to take notes, continue conversations at home with their families and reflect on the role financial literacy plays in independence, wellbeing and opportunity.

The session sparked deep engagement from students, with many asking insightful and mature questions about money management, investing, career pathways and future planning.

At St Peters Springfield, we believe education extends far beyond the classroom. Through opportunities embedded within our Career Development and Relationships (CDR) program, students are equipped not only with academic knowledge, but with the practical life skills, confidence and critical thinking needed to navigate life with purpose, responsibility and integrity.

Experiences like these reflect our commitment to preparing young people for meaningful futures, empowering them to make informed decisions, contribute positively to their communities and thrive in an ever-changing world.

South-East Queensland Public Speaking Competition 

Congratulations to Ruhika S who has made it through to the final six from seventy-two entries of this competition. The Finals will be held in June and she will be required to present a three-minute speech followed by a two-minute impromptu speech. Good luck! 

Ipswich Junior Music Eisteddfod 

Congratulations to Alyssa B and Tobey S who were awarded the Queensland Emerging Voice Award of Excellence (Emerging Artist Award) at the Ipswich Eisteddfod last weekend. 

Performing Arts Showcase Concerts 

Congratulations to the performers from the first Performing Arts Showcase Concert on Wednesday evening in the Junior High Precinct Foyer. Thanks to the Private Tutors and ensemble conductors, Ali D and Ginger M for compering and Mrs Campbell, Ms Powell, Mr Lyons and Ms Fidler for their organisation and support. The next Showcase is Tuesday 2 June. 

State Honours Ensemble Program

From Friday 29 May – Sunday 31 May, Chen A, Nethumi E, Aanya D and Ruhika S will be involved in either string, vocal or band ensembles together with students selected from throughout the state as part of the State Honours Ensemble Program to be held at Griffith University, Conservatorium. The three-day program involves workshops with leading national or international conductors and culminates with a concert on Sunday. 

Young Voices Festival

This Sunday Poco Voce will be one of four school choirs to be part of the The Voices of Birralee Young Voices Festival coordinated by Music Educator and Choral Conductor Jenny Moon at Brisbane Boys College. Poco Voce will present a solo item as part of the concert and then perform with Wooloowin State School, Ascot State School, and Yeronga State School. Thanks to Mrs Schmeider, Mrs Pomerenke, Mrs Campbell, Ms Powell and Mrs Sabri who will be in attendance. The concert will conclude with a Massed choir sing with audience participation. 

Studio Recitals 

Students who learn in the Private Tuition Program will be nominated by the Private Tutors to participate in the Studio Recitals to be held in the Learning Commons on Monday 8 and Thursday 11 June. These recitals provide an opportunity for students to work towards a performance goal. Information will be communicated through Ms Powell.

Next week GBC Secondary Term 3 teams will begin training. Please engage with the training schedule for the next 3 weeks. Next Wednesday there will be no GBC Touch, Soccer or Netball Training due to the bye. Vicki Wilson cup team members will train on Wednesday afternoon in the YMCA centre.

All registered students are expected to attend to assist with team selection.

Congratulations to the girls who have been selected to represent St Peters Springfield in the Vicki Wilson Netball competition next Friday. Our girls will participate in 6 games across the day at WDNA in Graceville. There will be mandatory training next Wednesday afternoon 3:00-4:30pm in the YMCA.

Congratulations to all Age Champions who were recognised for their outstanding efforts at the Cross Country Carnival on Friday 8 May. Our students continue to go above and beyond, and we take great pride in celebrating their dedication and commitment to sport.

A special congratulations to Year 12 students Isaac K and Hannah T, who were crowned this year’s Plus Ultra 3K winners. Isaac’s achievement of winning this event four years in a row is an exceptional feat and a testament to his consistency and determination.

Well done also to Leichhardt House for taking out the overall Championship.

As we reflect on Semester 1, we are extremely proud of the continued dedication and Plus Ultra spirit displayed by our swimmers from the St Peters Western Swim Club. With countless hours spent training in the pool each week, their commitment, discipline and resilience do not go unnoticed, and their performances continue to impress at all levels. We recently recognised some of their outstanding achievements at the Australian Age Nationals, held from 11–18 April. Many of these students will now go on to compete at the Australian Schools National Championships in Melbourne, representing both the College and the St Peters Western Swim Club with pride.

Students and staff enjoyed a vibrant celebration of culture during first break on Tuesday, as members of the Culture Portfolio shared a series of cultural dance performances with the College community.

Featuring both Irish dancing and traditional Indian dance, the performances highlighted the rich diversity within our College and provided students with an opportunity to proudly share their cultures, talents and traditions with others.

It was wonderful to see the community come together to support and celebrate the performances, reflecting the inclusive and connected spirit of St Peters. Thank you to our Culture Portfolio students for sharing their cultures so proudly with the College community.

Congratulations to Year 12 student Aiyana P. on her selection in the Queensland squad for the 2026 Marsh AFL National Championships. This prestigious competition represents the pinnacle of the AFL Talent Pathway Program, bringing together the nation’s top emerging players to compete at the highest junior level.

Aiyana’s inclusion in this highly competitive squad is a testament to her talent, work ethic, and commitment to her development. She will have the opportunity to showcase her abilities against the best young footballers in Australia, with Queensland set to face Victoria Metro, Victoria Country, South Australia, and the Allies throughout the carnival.

We look forward to following Aiyana through the series and look forward to celebrating her success.

Congratulations to Anneke in Year 2, who has been named the winner of the 2026 LLL Synod Art Competition in Category 2: Primary School (6–9 years). This outstanding accomplishment recognises Anneke’s creativity and thoughtful expression at a state-wide level.

Anneke received her award at a presentation held on Monday 25 May 2026 at Lutheran Education Australia, where she was presented with a certificate and a $450 cash prize.

Her artwork communicates a powerful message of faith and invitation. In her own words:

“My painting is about an open-door letting people of today know the story about Jesus dying on the cross. People know about this story through reading the Bible by going to church or watching a video. This can lead to spiritual renewal.”

Through the symbolic image of an open door, Anneke expresses how the story of Jesus continues to reach people today, inviting understanding, connection and renewal. Her work reflects the College’s commitment to faith as a lived experience; responding to God’s love by using our gifts to serve others.

Anneke’s achievement is a strong example of the Plus Ultra mindset in action; striving ever higher while sharing a unique story. At St Peters Springfield, students are encouraged to grow through meaningful experiences, develop their talents and pursue a life of purpose. Anneke’s work highlights how creativity can deepen understanding and communicate ideas that matter.

This success reflects both individual dedication and the strength of a community that values connection, creativity and faith. Anneke’s accomplishment is a proud moment for all.

The Walter Taylor Bridge will be closed across several weekends from late May to late June for essential safety upgrades.

Closure dates (weekends):

19–22 June (9pm Friday to 5am Monday)

What this means for Springfield families:

Families travelling to Indooroopilly for weekend sport or events should allow extra travel time and plan alternative routes, as the bridge will be fully closed to vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists. Detours and public transport changes will likely cause delays, particularly during peak weekend traffic.

Alternative crossings will be required, and some bus services will be disrupted, with transfers needed.

For the latest updates, families are encouraged to check the QLDTraffic app before travelling.
