Boys Weekly Sport
With the Trial Round of AIC Sport kicking off last weekend, it was fantastic to start the season off at home. Chess got St Peters underway on Thursday night with the CLI providing the stage for some impressive opening victories for our young men. With both senior Football and all Rugby teams playing at home, St Peters was the place to be, whether you were supporting from Harts Road Oval or making the noise at Mayer Oval, the sense of community and sporting spirit that was shown was admirable despite the muddy conditions.
Our First IV Chess team started the season with a comprehensive victory, winning 7 from 8 matches across the night. Despite the scoreline, the boys showed grit and determination in the endgame to ensure a stalemate wasn’t an option or they were timed out, with a tense few matches going to the wire.
Rugby featured five matches on Mayer Oval on Saturday, with all teams playing at home for the first time this season against St Edmund’s.
Football was spread across four venues and recorded victories in more than half of their games. Our First XI started the season with a win against a spirited St Edmund’s College.
First Team Presentation
Leading into Round 1 of AIC, we announced our St Peters 1st IV Chess, 1st XI Football, and our 1st XV Rugby teams on Thursday night. It was a combined gathering where we were able to acknowledge and congratulate the selected members of each respective team. Mr Tim Kotzur and Miss Sarah Delaney addressed the players and presented them with their playing shirts and badges. It filled me with great honour to see the young men take pride in their uniform and to ‘play for the crest’ with many students being teammates for several years, and discussions of brotherhood were many.
Football
Our Football season starts this week against St Patrick’s College with Seniors at Home and Juniors away. Best of luck for the upcoming games!
A reminder that the Football Support Group will be running the annual Trivia Night on Saturday 10 May, 6:00pm at Café 45.

chess
This week saw our Chess teams take part in the highly anticipated AIC Trial Tournament, a crucial warm-up before the official season begins. St Peters faced off against St Edmund’s College in a tightly contested series of chess matches. Both sides showcased high-level tactical skill and patience, with games often coming down to the final few minutes. Our players demonstrated impressive focus, strategic thinking, and resilience across the board; many close games highlighted the growing strength of our squads, with several standout individual performances. The tournament provided valuable match experience, helping players fine-tune their openings, sharpen their endgames, and build confidence ahead of regular competition. Coaches were particularly pleased with the team's discipline under pressure and sportsmanship throughout the event.

The AIC Cross Country season is well and truly here, with meets beginning in less than two weeks. Students are reminded to sign up and attend sessions that do not clash with Term 2 Sport and runners prioritising Wednesday afternoons for group training.

Athletic Development
The St Peter's Athletic Development Program supports students' physical growth and athletic performance, with sessions available before and after school in the Weights Room at the Indooroopilly Campus. Juniors (Years 7–9) focus on mastering fundamental movement patterns, while Seniors (Years 10–12) build on these skills with tailored programs for all levels. Regardless of gym experience, we cater for all levels and encourage all students to take advantage of this opportunity. Boys are encouraged to attend Athletic Development.

For our St Peters sporting programs to positively develop and grow, it is paramount that our students attend training sessions for their chosen sport, so they can improve and refine sport-specific skills and build cohesion amongst their teammates.
If students are unable to attend some training sessions, it is vital that their absence is communicated to their coaches first, and also to the respective coordinator/s.
