Investing in Our Teachers to Strengthen Learning
One of the most important ways we support high-quality teaching and learning is through a strong and ongoing investment in professional development. When teachers continue to grow in their knowledge and practice, our students benefit through richer learning experiences, stronger relationships and more effective teaching.
Throughout this term, our teachers engage in a range of professional learning opportunities designed to strengthen both their practice and our collective culture as a staff team. Recently, our staff have participated in professional development focused on building positive staff culture, recognising that strong relationships, trust and collaboration among educators create the foundation for effective teaching and a thriving learning environment.
A significant focus has also been placed on literacy and mathematics development across the Primary Years. Through targeted training, teachers have explored evidence-informed strategies to strengthen reading, writing and language development and maths instruction. This work ensures that our programs continue to evolve and that students are supported to become confident and capable across all subjects.
Equally important is the role of student relationships in learning. Our teachers have engaged in professional learning that strengthens relational practice, helping educators build strong, respectful and supportive connections with students. Research consistently shows that when students feel known, valued and supported, they are more confident learners and more willing to take risks in their learning.
As a Lutheran school, we also continue to deepen our understanding of Christian Studies and the Lutheran Education Queensland (LEQ) documentation that guides this important learning area. Professional learning in this space supports teachers to deliver Christian Studies in ways that are meaningful, thoughtful and aligned with our faith tradition, helping students explore values, purpose and identity.
Recognising that great teaching requires healthy and supported educators, we have also invested in staff wellbeing initiatives. These sessions encourage balance, reflection and connection, helping our staff maintain the energy and care that they bring to their work with students each day.
Finally, our teachers have been developing their skills in interpreting whole-school data. By carefully analysing student learning data, staff can better understand patterns of achievement and identify opportunities to support every learner. This work ensures that decisions about teaching strategies and support programs are informed, targeted and focused on improving outcomes for students.
Professional learning at St Peters Springfield is not simply about attending workshops. It is about building a culture of continuous growth where teachers learn together, share practice and reflect on how to best support our students.
The impact of this investment is seen daily in our classrooms through engaging lessons, thoughtful feedback, strong relationships and learning experiences that challenge and inspire our students.
When we invest in our teachers, we are investing directly in the learning, wellbeing and future of every child in our care.
