Greater Springfield – Australia’s Newest City

Recognising Greater Springfield’s community and contribution to Queensland and the nation was top of mind last month, when the Prime Minister of Australia, The Honourable Malcolm Turnbull MP, launched a major book about the emerging city. The Queensland Minister for State Development, The Honourable Cameron Dick MP was also present as the audience was reminded of Greater Springfield’s long history of bipartisan political support at all levels. The book was accepted into the official catalogue of the State Library of Queensland by the CEO and State Librarian, Vicki McDonald.

Published under the stewardship of the University of Queensland Press, it chronicles the rich and unique history of Greater Springfield and explores the developing character of our rapidly expanding community as told through archives and interviews, with many of the people living and doing business here.

In recognition of Greater Springfield’s learning philosophy, the book has been gifted to all our local schools for their libraries.

Written by Madonna King and David Fagan, Greater Springfield: Australia’s Newest City offers colourful stories, pictures and testaments from an exciting kaleidoscope of characters; and is a must read for anyone with a sense of adventure, an appreciation for entrepreneurship or an interest in just what it takes to build a world-award-winning city.

This limited edition book is available for purchase online at or in store at the Queensland State Library Bookshop and Book Face Orion Springfield Central.
