All St Peters students and staff commit to fulfilling fundamental expectations in living by our Plus Ultra (every higher, more beyond) motto by treating everyone with Care, Dignity and Respect. As a result, we have a number of priorities for the semester ahead as we implement our Strategic Vision and...
Ministry
‘Slow walking’; ‘a walking meditation’; ‘walking prayer’. These were some of the words I used to describe what walking the prayer labyrinth was like, before Year 8 groups on camp experienced it. The Lutheran Education Queensland prayer labyrinth was a large piece of painted canvas set out in the middle of the hall. We took off our shoes and sat around it to hear what it was about. We each chose a stone from the glass bowl. That stone could be something we are grateful for; it could be something happening in our life that we are looking for help...

Around the School
In Week 9 of Term 2, St Peters was visited by eleven students and three staff from the Exupery International School, Latvia. These students attended regular classes with their host siblings, with some also electing to attend the Year 7 Science excursion to the Planetarium. While only a very short visit of two nights, the experience was highly valued for both visiting students and host families. In a true testament to the College’s values of Care, Dignity and Respect, the Latvians were made to feel welcome and quickly formed friendships with many of our students...

Schools across Australia are once again taking part in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with a Disability. From 2015, it has been mandatory for this information to be collected in every school across Australia annually. The aim is to provide better information about students with a disability in school settings. It is a requirement for all schools to contribute to this data collection in the August census and, as a school, we will provide the government with non-identifying information about students with a disability in our setting. If...
Our debut ‘Spark’ Code Camp was a huge success! Over three days, students created their very own game. They had lots of creative control when designing levels and learned about the language of code along the way! “I really enjoyed it. Every night, when I came home, I showed my family what I had done and my plan for the next day. It is good we were split into younger and older groups. A big thumbs up!” - Ryan; and "I loved it, and wanted to do another one in the holidays but I was unable to find one close to us. Over the holidays I kept playing and...
It was a big week for all things French! Firstly, the French soccer team took out the World Cup - “Felicitations” or congratulations on their victory! Then there was the inaugural St Peters French Week. Special events took place around the school to bring a French flavour to students’ learning. At Primary School Assembly on Wednesday, Years 2 and 3 students sang in French and the Junior Dance Troupe performed the song ‘Je Suis Moi’. Teachers and students wore splashes of red, white and blue to celebrate. In the Secondary School, Madame Morgan’s Year 10...
A few months ago, our families sent care packages to Australian Troops overseas. We have received numerous letters from the Troops over the past couple of weeks, thanking us for the joy and excitement those special treats have brought to them. Some extracts include: ‘Thank you very much for the thoughtful care package, which your students so generously bought, packed and sent to me here in Iraq. It is full of things that remind me of home and I will be sure to share the classic Tim Tams with the US Army People I work with, as they love them almost as much...

On Thursday 14 June, the Springfield Hub was transformed into a gathering of past and present eminent Australians. Year 6 students worked tirelessly throughout Term 2 to research and present information about their eminent Australian. They developed their writing and sketching skills to produce some outstanding portrait works, learning a lot about presentation, design and costume along the way. Most importantly, students beamed with confidence when speaking about their eminent Australian. Parents were impressed at the multidisciplinary skills and...
On 28 June, four lucky Year 3 students enjoyed the ‘Out of the Box’ Festival at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre. The Springfield Coalition Group sponsored four students from each school in the area to attend with one teacher. This included entry into the festival, train fares and lunch. Attending students wrote about their experience: “Little Yawar was a performance by an Aboriginal family. They showed us some singing and dancing about hunting, fire and the death adder snake. It was amazing and a crowd favourite!”; “Air Play was a show with balloons...

Music
Welcome to Semester 2! Rehearsals are already in full swing, with students and staff braving the cold mornings to play and sing. Thank you to parents who are also braving the cold to deliver their children on time for these rehearsals. At the end of Term 2, St Peters Indooroopilly hosted the Joyful Voices choral festival for Lutheran Schools, and Bella Voce and other choristers participated in this event. Capably led by Ms Kathryn Morton, the massed choir of approximately 300 voices learnt a variety of music, which they performed at the culminating evening...
